QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 02:10 AM) Top 2 and I'm happy. The only reason being that I've never been a rabid fan and obsessively observed a draft with us picking above 3. The Rodon draft at 3 was the bomb digity and I wanna top it. For shizzle my nizzles. To be fair, the Sox took advantage of a couple prospects that had helium (Aiken and Kolek) while Rodon's stock was fading and they seemed to understand that Rodon was simply fatigued. We obviously know what happened after that. As frustrating as the guy is, the dude is obviously a special talent. Just gotta hope that if he is as advertised, the Sox can re-sign him when the time comes. Williams was never able to deal with the Boras Corporation. Hahn can.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:48 PM) If I ever care about Ti'quan Forbes again I will be quite surprised. The bigger upside to this trade is it makes them even worse the last month+ of the season. Agreed, but I still think they'll duke it out over this last month.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) The only thing that semi surprised me on first read was the Collins bit. That said, the more I think about it, the more it kind of makes sense. If Kopech is up, you're going to have ReyLo! Kopech and Gio up there, might as well get those 3 as much experience as possible working with Zack. EDIT: Also, thanks for sharing Fathom! Actually hadn't thought of it that way. That makes quite a bit of sense. And it's not like Collins can't work on his defense at the MLB level. In fact, it may be better as long as he is not so far over his head that it's actually detrimental. The Sox won't be competing next year, but it should be a fun team to watch.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 26, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know that. Since coming off the DL, he has held the opposition to 1 or fewer earned runs in 5 of the 8 starts, while going at least 6 innings, in all but one of those games. Only one of those 8 starts was not a "quality start". Wouldn't you think that someone could really use him, for the stretch run? We may be surprised at how good of a return the Sox get for him, if he is traded before the 31ST. I think they'll get something for him, probably a PTBNL or cash.

A player is only eligible for a qualifying offer if they remain with 1 team the entire season. Once they are traded, they are no longer eligible for the offer. This does not affect Gonzalez's trade value one bit. Frankly, Miguel Gonzalez is likely a 5th starter at best, and the Sox just haven't gotten the offer they want yet. There's no rush. He just has to be gone by midnight on August 31st, which means he must be traded on or prior to August 30th. If he is traded on August 31st, he is not eligible for the postseason, which doesn't mean he can't be traded, but it would greatly diminish the need for a team to trade for him, and greatly diminishes his overall value. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/pos...son-eligibility

But platooning with a catcher doesn't occur based on handedness usually but rather based on pitcher's preferences. I imagine they will try and make it so he faces mostly righties, but that's not always possible with catchers.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 26, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) How much would the Sox have to commit to a qualifying offer? That might make sense, if no team steps up to offer a worthwhile prospect. Will be upwards of $18 million.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) The fact that you think batting average means nothing when evaluating a prospect tells me everything I need to know. I guess that fact that he has an abysmal contact rate against guys in A ball means nothing. Seby Zavala is not a .300 hitter. His average in A+ is being fueled by a .378 BABIP. He is closer to a .270 hitter in the minors, which probably translates to a .240 hitter in the majors. And Zavala is not without contact issues of his own - a 23.7% K% is nothing to write home about. I will take Collins, thank you.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 07:47 PM) Heck of a game for Burger Rutherford too, though it'd be nice to see some of his go for extra bases.

QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 06:40 PM) Nicky Delmonico might be something from Travis Sawchik @ Fangraphs Basically says he might be a league average hitter or a little less, but for a minor league free agent, that's good value.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 05:18 PM) Stanton (46) 39 games left, 10 of which vs Phillies If it weren't for the steroid era, this story would be everywhere.

I always wonder what is being said that could trigger something like this.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) Maybe on the 31st since that's when a lot of August deals happen due to rosters expanding next day. Move him for whatever and re-sign him to hold down the 5th spot next year. I believe postseason rosters have to be set prior to August 31st, so if he is moved, I would expect it on or by 8/30.

Your 2018 Chicago White Sox Opening Day Lineup

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 06:01 PM) Gonzalez pitched a good game for the win today. This will probably be his last start in a White Sox uniform. I thought we would get at least 2 more starts from him before the August 31 deadline. Now that Lester is on the Cubs DL , I figure Hahn will trade Gonzalez to his life long favorite team the Cubs. Older fans remember when Arnold Johnson owned the Kansas City As he traded numerous of his best players to the Yankees. It went on for years. It helped the Yankees maintain their dynasty in the 1950s and 1960s. I can't help but wonder if we're going to see the same type of situation with the Cubs and Hahn. He recently traded Quintana which should help them the next few years getting into the playoffs. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gonzalez go the Cubs either. He'll probably take on that Heyward contract too, which you know will inhibit the Cubs from making other moves in the future. Take Heyward for Gonzalez and suddenly the Cubs have the depth in the rotation and have room in the budget this offseason to sign another guy. It doesn't matter if they screw it up because they know they have a guy in Hahn to take on any bad contract for them while giving them a quality player. -
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) I think those are pretty "realistic" projections. I stand by the post - may be a negative post, but stand by it. Moncada isn't done - never said that. I said he's an above average player. Probably a few ASG, maybe 1 or 2 low end fringe MVP top 10 seasons. But he's not a build around star. A guy who makes a few all star games and has one or two low end top 10 MVP seasons is literally a build around star. I don't think it's pessimistic to think that some of these guys will not stick on the big league club, but there are going to be people who are on this team that will stick around until 2020 that will surprise you. If Leury Garcia figured out how to be an average to above average major league hitter, I have a lot of hope that others on this team can do the same.

Did anyone else catch the eclipse on Monday? My dad and I actually traveled down to Alliance, NE to catch totality. Very surreal experience. Already in the beginning stages of planning a trip for the 2024 eclipse.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 08:58 AM) If he makes his career destroying bad pitchers he'll be pretty good. Guys that destroy bad pitchers hit good pitchers too. Good pitchers just have a tendency of getting a lot of guys out, regardless of how good the hitters are.

With regards to a potential Rodon extension, I think this article is worthwhile - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-possibl...star-extension/ Whether we like it or not, Rodon really is set financially for the rest of this life. That doesn't mean that he can't go from "set" to "having more money than he'll ever need," but he doesn't need financial security to offset potential earnings down the road, because he's already got financial security.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 08:05 PM) Burger's groundball rate is scary. Better hope he learns how to lift 2015 - 247 PAs 2016 - 269 PAs 2017 - 474 PAs He has almost literally as many plate appearances this year as he did the previous two seasons combined. He is probably a little fatigued at this point.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 06:15 PM) If he continues his dominance he won't be in AAA for long next season.Get the extra season and bring him up.Dont waste miles on that arm in Charlotte I agree with this.

QUOTE (turnin' two @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) Are you serious? Finding warts on his game? Hitting just .276? Striking out too much? As an 18 yr old. In A ball. He should be a high school senior for crying out loud. Even with the influx of talent in the farm, right now if the Sox still had Tatis, he would be the best player on Kanny, as an 18 year old. Ce la vie. Yeah pretty much. It sucks, but nothing you can do. Hope that James Shields was so bad this year that they end up with the #1 or #2 pick instead of the #3 pick and the difference between 2 and 3 is monumental. Feels like we've seen a ton of second generation players who have turned into absolute monsters in recent years.
