  1. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) Well yeah, because the Cubs didn't need him rushed to the majors and the Sox don't want him rushed to the majors. Devers played less than 90 games in AA and Pawtucket combined. And Eloy Jimenez is still in high A. Rafael Devers is 1 month older than Eloy Jimenez. Jimenez is a full year behind Devers, which is OK.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) My point is he's young enough that he just, uh, might improve? We're assuming TA might improve. My point is anybody who can hit 30 home runs in his first season and is still young(ish) has a chance. And I'd currently rather support that guy than dream about prospects. His defense I realize is regarded as s***, but I don't think he's been embarrassingly bad yet at 3B. Correct me if I'm wrong. Nobody's been able to explain to me why his performance hasn't dictated any excitement at all. He's a bum and that's that. I guess 26 is considered too old to get anybody excited nowadays. That's the bottom line. Answer this though: Why is it that Davidson's advanced stats have doomed him to being a boring non prospect when he showed promise in terms of hitting mammoth home runs (actually winning one game with a single up the middle)? At what point do you guys decide the advanced stats cannot be improved upon and a guy has no chance of improving? Is it simply his age? 26 is blah now. The cliche says he's too old to build a solid career. Because he's shown no real signs of progress. He is who he is, a dude who hits some dingers but also strikes out too much and doesn't walk nearly enough to be a full time player. He is a bench player or a AAAA player on a good team. Remember Josh Fields.
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) What a f***ing rocket from Smith. WTF do I know, Ricky the mad genius batting him cleanup. I'm pretty sure Renteria picks out his cleanup hitter by throwing a f***ing dart at the wall.
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) This kid is unreal. Hahn had a quote on him today: https://twitter.com/JRFegan/status/895069244957663232 I haven't seen him defensively, so I don't know how well he'd play overall, but I really think he'd be just fine in the majors right now. Almost think of how Miguel Cabrera impacted that 2003 season and that's what I think Eloy would do in the majors right now. Obviously calling him up would be very, very dumb for so many reasons, but he's a monster.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) I don't care that he is tank commander, I don't want to see Holland anymore, he is done As a starting pitcher, I am in complete agreement. I think you can make at least a half assed case that he might be capable as a reliever.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) I hope they send Jimenez to the AFL. With a good performance he could be #1 overall IMO. I don't see any reason why they would keep him out of Arizona.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 06:44 PM) Jimenez is a monster the besss
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) I like early extensions, but I thought the TA was a bit premature. There are still a lot of red flags, but he does have talent. We know he is capable of being a better fielder. I'm not giving up that this will ultimately be a bargain, but this year has been horrible obviously both on and off the field. I won't disagree that it was premature, but given the cost, it was worth the speculative investment.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) Another guy who for whatever reason is not well liked on this board. Was on pace for 30 homer season. I know, his advanced stats suck and will always suck. If somebody else got hurt, ruining a productive season, there'd be a ton of sympathy. Have you seen some of Davidson's bombs this season? Crushed. Definite highlights in one of the worst seasons in Sox history. This all can drive a person crazy. You don't need to tell me how bad Davidson is BTW. I've read all your advanced stat posts. Yeah, he sucks. I know. Josh Fields.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) Sure but there are way more guys on the planet that can do what Javy Vazquez can do. Jay Cutler is like one of the 15-20 best QB's in the world. What measurement do you want to use? In 2015, Tyrod Taylor was tied for 7th in passer rating, Cutler was 16th. Taylor's completion percentage was 63.7%, Cutler's 64.4%. At the same time, Taylor's Y/A was 8 versus Cutler's 7.6. Taylor's TD:INT was 20:6, Cutler's 21:11. Taylor's QBR was 70.3, Cutler's 65.9. About the only area Cutler really outplayed Taylor was 4th quarter comebacks, and he has been pretty good in the clutch throughout his career. Meanwhile, in 2016, Cutler was awful and he got hurt, while Taylor was merely mediocre while maintaining a very low turnover rate. I don't see how anyone can say with any legitimacy that Jay Cutler is a better QB than Tyrod Taylor other than wearing orange tinted glasses.
  11. QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) Spoken like a true Bills fan Tyrod Taylor isn't that good. Jay Cutler blows.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Why would you be mad about that? He's better than Matt Moore and instantly becomes the 2nd best QB in the division Jay Cutler is not a better QB than Tyrod Taylor. Tyrod isn't great, but Jay Cutler is not a good QB.
  13. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) Show your work. Show us where I mentioned a dollar amount. My position has been, & remains that they should have made Anderson wait to get his money. They should have let him prove that he was worth it, NOT stumble all over themselves after less than one whole season of work on his part. Of course, if they "make" Anderson get his money, then you are talking about an extension in the $35-50 million range as opposed to $24 million. It's a risk they were willing to take.
  14. These are the 2nd year statistics of one of the best SS's of the current generation: .255/.271/.373, 2.2% BB, 13.5% K (16.4% MLB average), 0.5 WAR, 64 wRC+, 229 PAs And these are the statistics of Tim Anderson: .237/.258/.361, 2.5 BB%, 27.9% K (21.6% MLB average), -1.0 WAR, 59 wRC+, 402 PAs Jose Reyes was only 21 years old in 2004, but considering where both are at with regards to their overall baseball age, I'd say they are similar. Anyone willing to write Tim Anderson off in the first year of the rebuild needs a reality check.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) So the Dodgers are the first team to win 43 games in a 50 game stretch since the 1912 Giants. Need to go 38-13 for most wins in a season. It's not impossible.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) In general, I think it is a pretty ballsy assertion to say that players will go from A high to MLB in half a season. That would be more the exception to the rule vs. the norm. Reality is you are talking more like 1-2 years, for special prospects, possibly on the shorter-end, but that also depends on overall maturity and experience level. If you are a 19 year old-kid, I'd put that gap probably wider then even the 1-2 year mark. You're right, but there are exceptions where you can see a player who has spent the better part of his career in low A or high A get promoted to AA, absolutely rake, and rather than taking a stop at AAA they are promoted right to the majors, but that is very, very rare. I said half a season but I think I was thinking more along the lines of half a year, meaning 6 months. I don't think it's far fetched that Eloy could get a cup of coffee in 2018, but I don't think the Sox will do so because they will want the extra year of control. I definitely think he is up and in the lineup by about May 15th of 2019, though that also depends upon health (and progression too, but he is such a good hitter already).
  17. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) Well they graduated Delmonico and Moncada in the last few weeks. High A is also closer to the majors than many people realize. Yes and no. Players can go from high-A to the MLB in about half a season, so in that regard I would agree completely. On the other hand, the difference between high-A and AA seems to be the biggest jump of any within the minors, so you really begin to weed people out.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) Al Albuquerque signed and assigned to Charlotte. So that happened. He actually pitched pretty well for KC at AAA. 26 IP, 28 K, 5 BB, 0 HR, 2.08 ERA
  19. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:20 PM) Except none of these guys are gonna be a part of our plans. No need for all these meaningless walkoffs. LOL
  20. I have never had such bad withdrawals in all my life.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) He doesn't excite me either, but if somehow he & Engel are your best two options for LF & CF, then it should hands down be Engel in CF & Tilson in LF. And I am wondering what happened to Avi, Willy, Cordell, Delmonico, and Liriano, among others.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) Why would you ever start Tilson in CF over Engel? I don't get the Tilson love to begin with, but Engel is an awesome defensive CF and Tilson isn't. I mean, I guess we haven't seen much of Tilson (2 PAs!), but his game has never excited me much.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) Colleen Kane‏ @ChiTribKane 17m17 minutes ago Meeting in the White Sox dugout between Ozzie and Kenny. UH OH OZZIE'S COMING BACK YOU GUYS
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) How can anyone pencil Charlie Tilson into a lineup at this point without being sarcastic. I don't know how anyone can even consider putting together any sort of 25 man roster right now regardless. Other than like Abreu and Moncada, there is no one on the MLB team that I think is safe.
  25. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) Cocaine is pretty big in higher end circles. Would make complete sense that anyone making millions would be around it/ taking it. MDMA is all the rage, but that is mainly because its usually cheaper. Meth has always been big around in the grain belt. However, heroin has made a large push in recent years too, some of which is probably likely due to the oil boom over the past decade. I drink and chew tobacco. Those are the only substances I need in my life, and the idea is to eventually quit or greatly diminish usage of those too.
