Since when is .234 18 65 above mediocre? Joe Crede put up better numbers than that this year, and he was in his first full season in the majors. Paul had an outstanding first half of 2002, and then has done s*** for this ballclub, aside from one huge home run off of Eddie Guardado in early July. And the fact that he is getting $8 mill is outrageous(which you have said to a lesser extent before). And the fact that he is averaging about 20-25 GIDPs a year is goddamn terrible. We have enough GIDP machines on this team as it is.

why has everyone givein up on koch and konerko

I'd be very damn surprised. Konerko will never be the star we want him to be, and Koch looks like toast. You ask me, and I would be plenty happy to have both of them out of here. Hell, I'd take peanuts for Koch, and Perez for Konerko, add a prospect or two, and I am just fine and dandy with those moves, and if KW wants, he can ship Maggs out too(preferably to Baltimore where he'd be the main guy and we'd get Gibbons and then some others, maybe Matos and Roberts, or maybe we could get lucky and get Julio instead of Roberts) -
Doesn't Neal have a pretty good curve ball too? If he can get some decent control, watch out.
-
And he got picked up by a few as well. I know that IRod dumped his agent to get Boras, and I believe Luis Castillo did the same thing. However, I know for a fact that Gary Sheffield dumped his ass, and a couple years ago when Andruw Jones was about to become a FA, Boras was looking to get him a like a 7-year, $115 mill deal or something to that extent and Jones, with no consultation from Boras, accepted a 5-year $75 mill offer from the Braves, pretty much just saying why do I need that extra $40 mill?

I just checked the stats, and I knew he went to LA in the Sheff deal, but I couldn't remember how much he had pitched with Atlanta. He never really did pitch a full season, but he pitched more then I thought he did. About 95 innings in both 00 and 01.

I'm confused. As an honest question, were you serious, or are you joking? Because that could honestly be taken either way.
-
LMAO....I said exactly what you said, but I added a few hundred words.

If you are a team looking at our roster, would you rather have Konerko at $8 mill who will probably give you .275 25 90 who will almost undoubtedly someday break the record for GIDPs for a season and probably career GIDPs as well, OR Maggs at $14 mill who will probably give you .300-.310 30 110 with a little more mobility, fewer DPs, and more versatility in the field along with being less streaky? I know I'll give the extra $6 mill to get someone a little better who is not due as much and can actually play a defensive position that takes some effort to play and won't ground into 25 GIDPs a year. And another thing.....the Red Sox would not need nor want Konerko. He plays 1B and would make a fool of himself in RF. Meanwhile, Maggs can play RF, because he is a RFer, is he not? Maggs is more attractive to them then Konerko is. To get Garciaparra, I would undoubtedly trade Maggs to get him. I'd then be able to switch off Garciaparra and Jose at SS and 2B....probably use Garciaparra at 2B more often because he is a more erratic thrower. Regardless, I would, if at all possible, like to get rid of both. Maggs and Konerko, our two WORST "sluggers" from last year make $22 mill next year. Thomas and Lee, are two BEST "sluggers" from last year will make somewhere between $12 and $14 mill next year. See why we want to get rid of them? With that $8-10 mill we would save, we could get some pretty good talent in White Sox unis next year, and if we could get Koch off of our hands while only giving up $1 mill or so, it would be an incredible deal And just an FYI, Konerko struck out 50 times in 444 at bats this year, or a ratio of 1 K ever 9 at bats or so. Maggs struck out 73 times in 605 at bats, or a ratio of about 1 K ever 8.5 at bats. Not a big difference, BUT Maggs and Konerko struck out about the same amount of times, but I know for a fact without doing the math that Konerko had a much better K/BB ratio of just over 1 compared to Maggs which was about 1.5.

Here's an interesting question. If Boston were to hypothetically trade for ARod, who then has had the better offseason so far, the Yankees or Red Sox? IMO it's kind of a tough choice. You have the Yanks who have signed Sheff, Gordon, Quantrill, and have traded for Vazquez. The Red Sox have traded for Schilling and given up practically nothing and have traded for ARod and given up Manny, and they then have to trade Garciaparra and will get some good value for him as well. I think it's tough, but I gotta say the Red Sox would be, mainly because they will stengthen their team quite a bit by getting two of the best players in their general categories(pitching and hitting), and will get some pretty solid players in return for Garciaparra.

Yeah right. You just like him in LF because bleacher seats are cheaper then regular seats, and you get a nice shot of his ass(did I just say that?) from out there! I do agree though. Keep Lee in LF, try Frank at 1B and if his throwing problems kill us that much, move him back to DH. You then have him just to a continual switch between 1B and DH so he plays half and half. It's about as simple as that.
-
Yeah, since the Royals can afford to add $8 mill per year in payroll.
-
He said A- talent, not friggin one of the best prospects this past season in the entire minor leagues. A- is slightly below that.
-
Goddamn, don't ever listen to anything ever from those f***ing boards. In fact, I'd have to say the only two places that could possibly have possible legit rumors are this site and WSI. Don't believe any other f***ing site out there. Fake rumors and signings like that were one of the reasons I left that s*** site in the first place.

OK then, I'll give it a try. 1998 - .265 29 109 1999 - .305 15 75 2000 - .325 43 143 2001 - .220 4 20 (injured for most of year....about 140 games) 2002 - .250 28 92 Looks like 4 bad years out of 5, and quite obviously 3 out of 4 if you exclude the injury year if you consider Frank's standards. Had a much better year this past year. Not the same in average(and I don't think it ever will be the same in average), but he still landed 42 in the seats including 2 huge walkoff homers, one against the Twins and one against the Angels(and his game against the Angels he drove in all 4 runs....that was a fun game to watch) -
Fanof14, one thing you should remember is that this was pretty much Perez's sophomore year. In his first year with the Dodgers, I believe he was 15-10 with an ERA of 3.00 on the dot. Regardless, he'd win a few more games with us. The thing that makes me leery about him is that he sounds a little like Jamie Navarro. He went off to the media about how the Dodger offense wasn't giving him enough run support, yet he had an ERA of 4.50. In how many of those games would 3 or 4 runs have done the trick? That Dodger offense was weak as hell, and everybody could see that, so it's like asking an old dog to learn new tricks. So I'm wondering if maybe Perez = Navarro when complaining to the media. God knows that's about the last thing we need.

Maybe we could talk to Bullard or Bajenaru and see if we could have them talk to their teammates to take place in an online chat like once a month or something to that extent. And that journal idea was pretty cool too.
-
You know what his response would probably be? "You can't spend a dollar if you only have fifty cents!" However, in this case, you can't blame Kenny. We can't add anything more on to Colon's offer because JR's a dick and won't dish out some dough.
-
After he's dealt? I think you mean IF he is dealt. There's a good chance he'll do nothing good again next year and will make $6.5 mill or so. As a real life example, would you want to give up $60 bucks if you get nothing in return? It's like paying $60 bucks for a nosebleed seat anywhere when there are other better seats for $15 bucks.
-
Rumor has it the Twins are tring to deal ...

Smoltz and Ortiz? I would have no clue in all honesty. Something tells me this won't happen. Call it a hunch. I don't see them getting rid of Mientkiewicz. -
In LA? LOL Remember that homer he hit to tie the game agianst Minny off of Guardado? That ball might not even be warning-track power in LA.
-
One of the two, and you hope for both. I'd probably ask for a good reliever too. Maybe Weathers or something like that. Or maybe we trade Maggs and get Kazmir, Weathers, and then get Ring back too.
-
And even then it's not always completely 100% official. Remember the offseason of 01-02? We had Erstad in our hands for Garland, Singleton, and two minor leaguers. Anaheim pulled out at the last second. That deal was even being posted on some websites about being done. Damn Angels. Won the World Series that year too.
-
Regarding Colon... Going into the offseason, there were about 2 or 3 teams who were maybe, maybe willing to give Colon more then $10-$12 mill or so. The Angels then signed Kelvim Escobar, so that kind of took them out of it(however, if they can either unload a big contract or just be willing to dish out cash, they can maybe still afford him), the Red Sox traded for Schilling, and the Yankees today traded for Vazquez. That pretty much leaves the Orioles as about the only team willing to dish out some cash to get him. If they don't want to spend the money or they just can't land him(which has happened the past two offseasons for them), that brings in numerous other teams, probably including the White Sox, Mets, Cards, DBacks, and maybe even the Indians again, as well as the Angels and Orioles. I'm not sure of the financial situation for several of those teams, mainly the Cards about how much is due to who down there, but I'm pretty sure all the others can possibly afford him. If you have 8 teams in the hunt for him, and only one team can get him....you kind of get the picture.

Yeah Jas, because Heather would love for you to come up.

Raul Mondesi's arm is something to be worried about, I don't care how he hits. And Santiago is and always has been a solid catcher. I see no reason why he won't be a solid catcher once again. Solid signings....however, if you asked Joe Posnanski, they'd be bigger moves then the Red Sox getting Schilling.
