  1. He would make a good manager....he was named the best managerial candiate in his league(I believe the Southern league is its name), and he took a Birmingham team to the playoffs two straight years, last year, when he won it, and this year(not sure the result....they did make it this year, didn't they), and though I'm not sure how it turned out, I know they had very, very little offense on the team. They did have Neal Cotts and Enemencio Pacheco, who were lights out this year. He won't get it though....in fact, he is probably going to be coaching in a different organization next year, and he can thank only himself for that one.
  2. I'd have to see how he reacted to playing under pressure. The last time he was under any kind of pressure was getting to 40-40.....he had like 2 weeks to get there, and he never did. Also....even if they don't sign Colon next year, they'll still have Jon Lieber coming off Tommy John surgery at some point....I assume probably May or June or somewhere around there. Knowing the Yankees, they're rotation will f***ing be Colon, Mussina, Pettitte, Lieber, Contreras next year. If it is, that's a sick rotation.
  3. That poor guy. He shouldn't be getting this kind of treatment. That ball was his if he could catch worth a damn. Still funny as hell though.
  4. The only thing I ever complain about as far as self-pity is the fact that everybody creams over a Red Sox-Cubs World Series, when in reality, the better series when everything is considered would be White Sox-Cubs. Of course, no one would watch it, and that would be a damn shame.
  5. Riots? Naw. You're thinking of Oakland. More like flash flood watches Another thing....would never choke like that. They'd get their asses swept and embarrassed instead. I guess you don't have to go through the heart break though.

  7. Jas, lock this s*** up again until tomorrow after the ALCS is over. There is a Pedro-Rocket matchup tomorrow....Clemens has been dominant in the postseason, but Pedro has been stellar in do-or-die games(mainly game 5's of ALDS's, but that doesn't mean that he won't be great tomorrow). The World Series ain't set yet. Doesn't matter, I'll still be cheering for the Marlins though. Would be kind of fun to see the Sox end their World Series drought(goddamn I wish what I just said meant something else).
  8. Biggest choke job EVER. The thing I loved most about what happened tonight was how the fact that it was mentioned at least twice that the last time Prior and Wood lost in consecutive starts was in 2002...to the Chicago White Sox. Reason it didn't happen this year was because Prior pussed out. WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR CUBS FANS!!!

  11. Tex....Syracuse plays in the Big East, and they won it all last year. The NCAA basketball runner up, Kansas, does play in the Big XII though.
  12. It was a hard call to make by the umps. It could have gone either way, and had it gone in favor of the Cubs, there's a strong possibility that people would be complaining that the ball would have gone foul and that the fan has every right to catch that ball. Also....that Sean Henning guy I believe his name is....he's a f***ing dumbass. Had he been in that exact same situation, he would have tried to get the ball too, and beer would have been poured on him and he would be wanted dead or alive by an angry mob of Cubs fans.
  13. Once Prior started the 8th, I knew the game was over. Glad I got that one right....the game was over after the 8th. I just thought that the Cubs were the ones who were going to win. ESAD Boy Wonder! :fyou :fyou :fyou
  14. I wouldn't mind picking up MJ again. For a catcher, he has good speed, and for a backup catcher, a good bat. He can lay down a bunt and he can steal a base. He also has a pretty damn good arm. If Sandy retires, I wouldn't mind seeing MJ again. Miguel would just have to be ready to take a step forward and kick some ass.....and by that I mean hit .250 10 50 with 15 steals or so. If he could do that, we would have wonderful production from our catcher. Any catcher who can shut down the running game is a deadly weapon, and he can shut down even the deadliest running games. And then when Miguel needs a day off, MJ steps in and does what a backup catcher is supposed to do...call a good game and help the team score a run or two, somehow, some way.
  15. Let me say this....if Neal Cotts is our 5th starter next year, I would not like our chances. Not because Neal Cotts isn't a good pitcher who could become a great pitcher, but because we'd be going with a rookie that got hit hard last year in his few starts up here and did throw a lot of innings. Even if he only were to make 25 starts, he could still experience some dead arm at times. If we want to make a push next year, Jeremy Reed, Neal Cotts, and a few others are all in AAA next year and we have veterans who are pretty good in their spots. We need to fill out the bullpen with good veteran pitchers(and no, Rick White does not count as a good veteran pitcher....only a s***ty veteran pitcher). We'll get another veteran OFer, assuming Maggs is traded, and we get a good veteran 5th starter.....or 3rd or 4th, depending on what happens to Colon and who is available at what price. If we resign Colon and can get Ponson for $4 mill a year....Garland is the #5 starter/swingman. In fact, an idea I think would be interesting to use would be to use 2 #5 starters and have a bigger bullpen. For example, say we sign Jeff D'Amico and Jeff Suppan....we would then have a set 4-man rotation in Colon, Buehrle, Loaiza, and Garland, assuming Colon is resigned for this example, and we then use D'Amico and Suppan out of the pen, and whoever is throwing best at the time will get the start when the 5th starter's spot comes up, and the other is used as a swingman for that game.
  16. God dammit, that's two days in a row someone's done that!
  17. cw45, I think you were hearing about how Guzman was looking s***ty, had a bad attitude, played lackadazical, and was not doing much of anything at all, and that because of that, the Twins might give him his outright release. That won't happen....he's the best SS they have available.
  18. I agree that KW is a better GM then Evans. But there in lies the problem....Evans is the worst, and KW is right there on his ass. And in the Dodger-White Sox trades, if you want a head-to-head matchup(or whatever you want to call it), the White Sox were owned by the Dodgers. Berry-Barry, come on. However, atleast KW didn't sign Rickey Henderson.
  19. Agreed on all points.....well, minus the players we could have had had we not drafted Borchard. If JB ever cuts down on that damn swing, he could put up some huge ass numbers.
  20. I agree. One way to look at it is that they are already in a better situation then last year. We had JM last year. Anyways, yes, I feel the same as you. Our starting pitching should be pretty good next year, especially if we bring back Colon or a proven winner, like you said, and another starter as well. I personally think that Garland will pitch much better under a different manager who has more confidence in him(I'm thinking shortly after July), but he also has to take some of the blame himself. Us not getting off to a hot start was partly due to him and his 8.00 ERA in April. If he starts off well, he could have a good year along with us having a decent year as well.
  21. Don't be so sure of that. With the RIGHT moves, we'll compete as much as the next team out there. Get some more speed in here for damn sure, and a powerful LH bat or two wouldn't hurt either. And then get a cheaper replacement for Colon who will eat innings and pitch well, and you could have a half decent team.
  22. s***, I wish. Goddamn I hate school. Everyone else in the country got out of school today....why the hell couldn't I?
