  1. I have no problem with this argument of the "we" versus "they," but enough with the childish, snarky remarks. There's no need for them.
  2. No need for venom guys. Let's keep it clean.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 12:36 PM) Knew that Morneau played hockey, just hadn't heard that number before. Guess it didn't affect Tom Glavine as much, or he was simply lucky not to get plunked too often in the head when batting or injured on the basepaths like Morneau. 100 was hyperbole, as I'm pretty sure someone with 100 true blue concussions would probably be dead. Hockey is a violent game though. Koskie played hockey too and his career ended via concussion as well.
  4. Carmelo and LaLa are worth a combined $90 mill or so, and this contract is going to nearly double that. He's going to be fine.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) Justin Morneau went from the most feared hitter in the AL to almost out of the game to finally recovering this season in Colorado...but how often do you hear his name referred to like it was 5-7 years ago? Didn't Fernando Vina also have concussions after he got run over by Albert Belle? I'm guessing this was Hawkins' first concussion. While it's true that only one can mess you up, 99.9% of the time you're fine so long as you let it recover. Morneau had 100 when he was in hockey as a teen. That number isn't exactly, but it's a number that is not in binary code.
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) Good point. However, my main point is not that "I'd rather guys putting up alright results with bad stuff than guys with electric stuff but no results", I said earlier that I get, and support, other lightning/bottle attempts, but that I'd take almost anything over Henry Rodriguez, who is absolutely dead as anything right now. Is there one player in the history of baseball who has given up as many walks as Rodriguez has in the past 2 years and gone on to be successful? He's a Daniel Bard. They have Taylor Thompson and Deunte Heath and Matt Zaleski and Charlie Leesman. Don't really need any more than that, and if they need more, they're always available.
  7. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) I missed that he was 34, but I'd wager there's a stronger history of guys with constant ERAs in the 2s and 3s in the minors contributing in the majors than guys following seasons of giving up the amount of walks Rodriguez has. Give me Pino over him any day, dude has struck out nearly 7 per 9 and walked way less than 2 per 9 in the majors this year, only been boned by almost half of his allowed baserunners scoring. Yohan Pino has pitched 15 innings at the MLB level. Dylan Axelrod came up, pitched in 4 games, and put this up: ERA 2.89 FIP of 3.29 xFIP 3.88 K/9 9.16 BB/9 4.34 BABIP .327 You look at those numbers and say "holy hell, if he could just hone it in a bit, you have a great starting pitcher here." Except that he has absolutely no stuff and hitters catch on quickly and that's how you end up with a 5.68 ERA over 128 innings the following season which was then followed by being non-tendered a contract in the offseason which was then followed by nobody showing interest in him whatsoever.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) Found out today that my wife has been cheating on me with one of my friends (the best man at our wedding 9 years ago). Sexual texts and tweets. They've kissed a few times. This revelation before we were set to leave on a weeklong family vacation. this should be fun. Holy s***.
  9. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) Yes Bobby Korecky has absolutely no value to a major league team. It's the same thing as Yohan Pino and Dylan Axelrod. They can perform well in AA and AAA, but then they get to the majors and good hitters destroy them.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) A couple of 27 year old Brazlians, maybe? I don't care how old they are, just tell them to meet me in my room at 12:30.
  11. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) Referring to anything as an "abortion." What about an actual abortion?
  12. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) This is probably just a personal thing, but it makes no sense to refer to a sports team as WE. "glad we won today." "That trade we made last week was awesome." "Wish we would steal more." You aren't on the team. You don't have a say in team transactions. You aren't coaching. Stop saying WE in reference to your favorite sports team. I'm sure I've done it, but I try to correct it when I catch myself saying it. This times 1 billion
  13. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:17 PM) No sure, I get the concept, I've been fine with pretty much every lightning bolt they've tried to catch, just saying that this guy is absolutely broken. When you're walking way more guys than Maikel Cleto, you're pretty much boned. (And maybe a part of me feels guilty that the Knights lead MiLB in attendance and they're being subjected to this ) Guys that throw 98 MPH are hard to find. If you can find one, you try and get him to throw strikes. Would you rather they have Bobby Korecky?
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) One of the BHam ballplayers rolled a ball to us over the dugout when I wasn't looking. It hit my moonshine-containing cocktail. I'm still waiting on FS to replace it.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) Remember when some were advocating to shut him down for year in May? Frankly, I think they should shut him down now and work towards that top 5 pick.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 01:22 AM) This wasn't a choice between Beckham and Garcia. It was Sierra and Leury. Any statistician would tell you that Leury makes more contact/strikes out less and has the remoter probability of hitting into a double play. So then, as a manager, he made the correct call.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) lol. Post Spurs? Would you guys stop. More rest for veterans? Pop has been managing minutes for the big three since before anybody knew who Justin Bieber was. Last year was nothing new. Shooting? Floor spacing has been critical for at least half a decade now as defensive schemes have gotten better. This is not a new era of basketball now because the Spurs beat the evil Heat. You mean how Kawhi went from 24 MPG to 31 MPG back down to 29 MPG? Or maybe Tony Parker going from 32.5 MPG down to 32 MPG up to 33 MPG and then down to 29.4 MPG? Duncan went from 30.1 to 29.2. Maybe he's been managing it, but he cut back a hell of a lot this year. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) The Heat could get away with being small because they have a transcendent player in LeBron. No team has ever won a title while being that undersized. The '11 Mavs probably had more shooters, or at least just as many, as the '14 Spurs. Point is shooting has been critical for years and teams have been paying for it before this offseason. The 2011 Mavs' best 3PT shooter with at least 100 attempts was Peja at 40% exactly, 42/105. The 2014 Spurs had 3 players who shot at least 293 times (Belinelli, Mills, and Green), and they all shot better than 41.5%. There was also Matt Bonner, Boris Diaw, above 40% too (98 and 112 3PA, respectively). This isn't including Leonard's 37.9% on the season either. As a team, the Spurs shot 39.7% while the 2011 Mavs shot 36.5%. Also, save Mike f'ing Miller (who isn't a "size" guy, even if he's 6'8"), the Heat had the exact same corps from 2013 to 2014. Look for yourself if you don't believe me. The Heat got a year older, a year slower, and were more banged up while the Spurs added more diversity, played fresher, and played healthier. Facts back this up. Also, because #factsarefacts, I think this team was shorter than either the Heat or the Spurs. #NBAstuff #sonned #whyamIusinghashtags
  18. This is a different guy than the utility infielder from last year. He's 24 years old and the highest level he's pitched at is AA. His career line in the minors: 87 games, 78 starts, 4.99 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9, 7.4 K/9. Here's a brief scouting report: http://www.chatsports.com/tampa-bay-rays/a...rlins-2-9964943 Sounds like Paulino Jr. Overall though, there's no harm in this deal. If you throw enough s*** at the wall, eventually something's gonna stick.
  19. I'm not sure how I should feel about this. I really do suck.
  20. You guys suck WHICH I CAN NOW DO BECAUSE I SUCK AND CAN JUDGE NATURALLY SUCKITUDE
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) Jeez, you suck Wite. Says the guy with "i suck" as a personal description.
  22. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) Now you're just trying to be a dick. Not shoveling snow > shoveling snow Melo will be making $20 mill a year. He's not going to be shoveling any snow. Hell, they will probably put language in his contract to not shovel snow.
  23. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) That sucks, it's going to kill the Bills on 3rd down. They do have a pretty good set of LB though. Just not a rangy player like Alonso. Right, they'll be fine during running situations, but this opens up the middle of the field quite a bit and places a lot of importance on guys like Searcy, Rivers, and Bradham stepping up and playing big roles.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) The last 4 or 5 games he's hit a few homers and a lot of his outs were hit very hard. .250/.304/.538/.842 over his last 15 games and 69 plate appearances, so he's been hitting well and I have no problem with that line from a RFer. Here's to hoping he keeps it up (or improves, because that line is also with a .257 BABIP, while he's got a career .300 BABIP).
