  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 08:45 AM) I vote all (I did too)
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 08:29 AM) i believe we need a poll for this Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd done.
  3. The poll to end all polls. Also, I have made this thread before.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 08:10 AM) TUC cant claim that one, I heard Bruce Levine saying it yesterday on the Score. edit: unless, of course, TUC is Bruce Levine. And if that is the case, my brain will break Anybody who is repeating something Bruce Levine has said is already losing. It's still the worst nickname in Soxtalk history.
  5. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:55 PM) Blowasavio didn't blow a save. Key was the glasses, as soon as he takes them off GIDP. No more glasses for Blowasavio please. In fact maybe that was his issue trying to escape Venezuela in ST, he just kept walking into the wall over and over again until eventually he took them off and was like "My word that's not the customs office that's a wall" and then he was fine. I'm sorry buddy, but we have a new winner for worst nickname in Soxtalk history.
  6. Just tell him you are a professional too. A professional [whatever it is you are doing], which makes you equally qualified to judge minor league systems.
  7. Kyyle started the game thread? Bet your houses on the White Sox losing this game.
  8. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 12:09 PM) I just looked him up. 24 yr old 6'9" RHP with a ton of strikeouts; now at Rochester in IL. I see 6'7, 10.5 K/9, 4.3 BB/9, 3.79 ERA, and 71.1 IP in 15 GS. That's less than 5 innings per start. He's definitely a good prospect but he hasn't done anything yet.
  9. Which teams could use LeBron? He's not wrong.
  10. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) Eh? It does recognise it. As for the bunt, De Aza has got a base hit on 50% of the bunts he's attempted this year, and that's after the bunt out. If we take it as a 50% chance he bunts for a hit and a 70% chance he steals a base, that's a 35% chance he gets to second base. Even if we take his career bunt-for-hit rate of 39%, that's a 27% he ends up at 2nd. De Aza's ISO this year is .128, so 12.8% of the time he gets an extra base hit. Therefore, he made the smart play, by quite a long way. De Aza is 3 for 6 in successful bunts this year, but he's at 39% for his career. I think that number is far more stable. Also, the .128 of his Iso just indicates how many extra bases he has as a ratio. His XBH% this year is at 7.5% 6.7%.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) Good job. You win the grand prize of...nothing. Just what I've always wanted! Also, that is the most metal grand prize of all time.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) That reminded me of this...“Now, you went to four years of college and four years of medical school, so I can safely presume that you are at least eight.” I wonder how many people will remember this quote. Dr. Kelso to Elliot Reid.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) Same logic people think anyone can take Beckham for nothing. Similar career pattern. Beckham for a few more years; but is having a better year this year. What? Beckham has 4 seasons worth of plate appearances more than Grandal. That is silly logic.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) Just realizing how bad the east will be if lebron leaves. If rose stays healthy that's like auto finals appearance. And then pretty much an auto loss in the Finals too.
  15. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:30 AM) The thing is none of us here, save for Rock and Bucket perhaps, know what's on the table. None of us know whether or not Rodon is actually considering going back to school. As long as he ultimately signs, holding out for more money isn't necessarily hurting him at all. It's just inflaming a bunch of fans who want what's best for them in having him pitch now. I can almost guarantee that they are offering slot and nothing more. They have no reason to be low balling him and no reason to be offering much more, if any, than slot.
  16. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:04 AM) But how much money will he be making if he straight out busts? And how much development time is he really losing when most seem to think he can pitch out of the bullpen right now? I'm not saying it's necessarily the best decision, but I can't fault him like everybody here on their high horse. I don't see any way the White Sox go higher than $6.5 mill - that's what Brady Aiken signed for, and that's well above the 3rd pick's slot value. They are likely offering $6.15 mill (give or take) right now. The difference - $350K - is 5.38% more. If he straight up busts and never pitches beyond the initial contract, he still makes $6.15 million. That's a lot of money. I don't care what the guy does, but going back to school IS insane and not worth it at all for him at this point. It could be that he personally wants to rest his arm, and that's fine, but I think the Sox do too.
  17. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) I meant big payday, but what if his slider isn't all that special with a major league ball? There are tons of possibilities, though unlikely, that I can't fault him for getting as much as he can while he can. There's about 3 ways he doesn't get opportunities until he's at least 30: -If his numbers are absolutely dreadful. -He becomes incapable of pitching effectively ever again. -He decides he doesn't want to anymore. (these are not mutually exclusive events) Either way, he's going to get like $6.17 mill guaranteed right now. It's really only hurting himself, but the thing Boras is best at is extracting the most out, even if it sacrifices job security and development.
  18. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:38 AM) But what if we aren't offering him everything we have? I can't blame Rodon for looking out for himself here. He might well blow out his elbow this year and never get another payday. The extra 100k or whatever might actually matter to him there. He could have to absolutely obliterate his left arm, Brien Taylor style, to never get another pay day playing baseball. Players with his talent will get chance after chance.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) @Chris_Broussard LeBron James' agent Rich Paul has told Heat LeBron will exercise early termination option Honestly, it might be time to find a new team. He might see how quickly it's starting to fall apart in Miami. Plus, I think that even though he clearly was the heart and soul of that team, he needs to get away from Wade to cement his legacy.
  20. Marcell Dareus can speed and have drugs and he still has a roster spot because he's good. When someone like Cornelius Washington does s*** like this, they end up getting released and stuff.
  21. If the Bulls seriously ended up with just Afflalo out of this whole thing, it would be hilarious. Not because he's a bad player, but just because of how dialed in the posters on here really are.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Bobby Jenks probably had really decent numbers after stripping his outings against Baltimore. 7.02 career ERA against Baltimore. I expected it to be even worse than that. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) How the hell is the Sox collection of talent supposed to win one on the road vs. Balt after losing four to a hellhole team like Minnesota? Answer. Sox can't. So pencil in 3 losses. I assume it's a 3 game series. Of course Sale might shut out anybody so I guess one win is possible. And suddenly, all my worries are gone.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) By playing his little games, what you mean is trying to get more money for his clients. People get mad about Boras' tactics, I get that. But this idea that he's doing it for fun or to piss people off makes zero sense. There is no foundation in reality for it. It does Boras no good to do what people seem to think he's doing. It's a frustrating tactic, but I have a hell of a lot of respect for the guy.
  24. Kyle Drabek (he's not the centerpiece, just another name to randomly blurt out. Numbers aren't impressive but the pedrigree is)
