What makes a system guy though? Is it not utilizing his strengths and working away from his weaknesses? (that said, I'm pretty sure Kawhi Leonard is dialed no matter where he goes)

Welcome to the dark side.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) At least he demonstrated that he could stay healthy. He was bound to be "rusty", and it would likely take more than 150 at bats for him to get his timing back. I know that most of you thought that I was crazy, but I still think that he's not too old to make a comeback. I hope that he gets a chance with another club, as he really busted his tail to get back. He was a genuine five tool talent, before he lost all that time to injuries. He probably shouldn't have done steroids then. **this is my opinion as to why he had success and thus is allowed by the US Government. If he proves otherwise, I will remove this post and burn it with kerosene.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 12:58 AM) Speaking to his mechanics, I've seen people draw similarities to Peavy's type of recoil action and I don't think they're wrong. Obviously that was fine for Peavy for a while, but we all know it eventually resulted in Jake Peavy surgury on the detached lat. Not sure if 1 example is reason enough to concern, but it's probably worth mentioning. Read: 8 and a half years

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) He actually has two complete games already and averages over 7 innings per start. You and your facts.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 09:04 AM) Was really a nothing interview. They didn't press him on anything at all. Probably the only reason he agreed to the interview in the first place.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 05:23 PM) That I can't get on at work is so depressing Quit your job.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 08:35 AM) Theo truly has everyone brainwashed. A 20 at-bat sample size in short season class A and suddenly the guy is Babe Ruth? More like the white Josh Gibson.

QUOTE (glangon @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 03:40 AM) Mike Olt 1,000,000,000,000/1 Probably perfect for the AL rookie of the year. He could always get traded to an AL Club, hit 40 homers in 3 months, and win it, but yeah, a quadrillion to one is probably safe odds. /bets $1 on Mike Olt for AL ROTY

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 05:44 PM) Nobody is giving me any notifications on Facebook right now That's just because you suck.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 07:12 PM) I would rather see Sizemore than watch De Aza. I'm sure you'd also prefer to watch Frank Thomas hit. Unfortunately, this is not a celebrity softball event we're watching.
-
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) Why not trade for him? Even with his sub-par performance this year, he is still better than at least one of our starting outfielders. No he's not.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) I always (perhaps erroneously) thought Rex Kickass was Rex Hudler with a name change. Yes, that was erroneous. Rex Kickass and Rex Hudler were (and are) two different posters.

I thought that was me who posted that, which freaked me out a little bit.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) I would say absolutely not, except for perhaps something like the trade for Contreras. This org is not a year away from winning with this rotation and a AAA rotation that includes Axe and Veal. As always, it depends. If the Padres made players like Gyorko or Grandal available, or the Phillies made Dominic Brown available, or whatever other examples could possibly exist, you consider it. A lot of those guys have lower stocks, but you never, ever rule anything out. Of course, I'm not suggesting they give up significant pieces to go after David Price this year either.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) If you lose the HS kid, you also lose his slot value. If you pick him outside of the 10th round, there is no downside to losing him, in terms of bonus allotments. This is probably the most important aspect.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) As opposed to Alexei, who I would offer my double cheeseburger to. Right, he's incredibly recognizable. If I saw him, I'd know exactly who he was. Probably Abreu too. Viciedo just looks so much different in street clothes.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) Also a very cool shot. There is a lot of Sox history in that picture. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/4789523...4843649/photo/1 No chance in hell I'd ever think anything other than "that's a big dude" if I saw Viciedo out in public.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) Just like Livan Yes, except that El Duque is so much junkier. I loved watching him pitch. Did you know that El Duque is almost 10 years older than Livan?
-
I just want you guys to know that I care about you. Also, that you kept the seats warm for me because I don't like cold seats.
-
He probably throws 82 at this point and he'd still be getting guys out.
-
There could easily be other circumstances to go along with that. How many options does Surkamp have remaining? Did the Sox want to risk losing him if they felt they wanted to send him back down? I know he wasn't pitching well at the time, even if it was unlucky. I don't think we know anything about Surkamp yet.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) Their numbers in the minors are very similar. The only real difference is that Surkamp strikes out a couple of more batters. Their numbers are close to identical otherwise over their minor league careers. It isn't a small sample size either Axe has 634 IP and Surkamp 551 over their time in the minors. Obviously you place Surkamp higher a prospect because he is lefthanded, but really there isn't much difference. Axe 2.99 ERA 1.172 WHIP 8.2 H/9 0.5 HR/9 2.3 BB/9 8.1 K/9 Surkamp 3.09 era 1.165 WHIP 8.0 H/9 0.5 HR/9 2.5 BB/9 10.1 K/9 Dylan Axelrod also comes with an 89 MPH fastball from the right side. A lefty can get away with that more often, especially in relief.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) Surkamp is pretty much the left handed version of Dylan Axelrod. Left handed versions of Dylan Axelrod can have pretty good careers in the majors because they are left handed.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) How is the lefty the Cubs signed for what was widely-considered to be an overpay doing? Then there's the Miguel Angel Gonzalez situation with the Phillies.... http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=concep000ger 4.81 ERA in 12 relief appearances in A ball, and I liked that signing, even if it was a "meh, who cares?" Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have been upset had they signed Carbonell, but I'm not distraught that they didn't.
