QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) Watch Martinez's slowest home run trot ever? They dont respect the Sox at all, they think they are the baddest team around. It'd be damn near impossible http://tatertrottracker.com/2014-tater-tro...tater-trot.html

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) Alex Rios OPS with the Rangers, .772 Avisail Garcia OPS with the White Sox, .774 Doubt it would have made any difference. In fact, with the team in free fall and everyone basically out for their own stats, you would even argue we might have lost more with Rios still in the clubhouse... I get that he has a very solid 859 OPS right now, but that has no bearing on what transpired last season in the final 2 months. Alex Rios was also far superior on the base paths and in the field. He was a better player in the last 6-8 weeks of the season last year than Avisail Garcia.

QUOTE (SoxnGiants @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 08:21 AM) I'm assuming Semien no longer counts... otherwise he's #5. 1. Rodon 2. Anderson 3. Hawkins 4. Danish 5. Johnson 6. Montas 7. Adams 8. Davidson 9. Sanchez 10. Michalczewski I think this is about how I'd rank them too, perhaps Adams a little lower.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 08:56 AM) Gregory Polanco is being called up for the Pirates tonight. My girlfriend is a Pirates fan and she has family in Pittsburgh. I was in town and at the game a few years back when Alvarez debuted and it was nuts. It's a really fun city and they have a pretty smart fan base. I wish I was there tonight. That's for the best. I assume Josh Harrison is going into a reserve role. I was pretty impressed by Harrison. He seems like the kind of guy who can be a lefty masher now and eventually evolve into a decent regular every day player.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) When Ozzie Smith was 22 he was in A ball and made 23 errors in 65 games. I'm not saying Anderson is destined to be a GG quality SS, he may in fact turn out to be so brutal they have to move him, but as of now, these errors are no big deal. This x100. Luis Aparicio is considered one of the greatest defensive shortstops of all time, and he made 35 errors his rookie year and routinely made 20-25 errors a season. Errors are not a great way of determining the quality of a player defensively. If Anderson gets to the ball, fires a little low or wide, and the 1B muffs it, they are going to call that error on Anderson 9 times out of 10 when in reality a quality 1B makes that play most of the time. These guys are just figuring out how to play at that speed, which is why they're in the low minors.

Danks is rolling, Verlander is hot garbage, and Kyyle is DIALED. Bet your house on the White Sox.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) The student handbook I found online doesn't specify that they are banned (although it does specify water balloon slingshots?), but it references a Washington State regulation about weapons where it says that mace and pepper spray may be considered weapons, depending on the circumstances. pretty vague. Seems to me that if you use it in an aggressive fashion, randomly going up to strangers and spraying it in their face, it would be considered a weapon and act of violence, but if someone were to attack you and you used it against them, it's a matter of self-defense. Again, we want more of it, but less of it, which is where the conundrum lies.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 01:23 AM) Well, in MLB, he'll get cornered to death, as we saw. The power is there, as are the walks, but you can't go deep into every count like that unless you're a special talent, and Marcus is a fine player but he's not that. That said, if he can put enough balls in play to hit just 270, in today's new environment if he goes 270/340/380, he's pretty valuable as a super sub or infielder. Even 250/320/360 is a fairly useful bench player. I think he posts [much] better than a .110 ISO.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:27 PM) Wite was wrong about me I will happily admit defeat as long as the Sox win and Abreu keeps bashing baseballs. But just so you know, KING KONG AIN'T GOT S*** ON ME

QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 07:15 AM) If we do not trade Rios, we likely do not have the money to sign Abreu. Also, if we do not trade Rios he may have resulted in an extra win or two the last couple months which would have put us picking behind the Cubs in the draft and we would not have Rodon. Great move by Rick Hahn to shed that salary. This really is a fallacy at this point. The Sox committed $11 mill or so to Abreu and then were willing to commit somewhere around $140 million in total to Tanaka. If that is the case, they have always had the money. The Rios trade was about getting rid of Alex Rios. The Rangers may have been willing to include a little more beyond Garcia had the Sox picked up some salary, but they were out of options - they needed him gone due to the presence of Avisail Garcia in the organization. That they got a player with any amount of upside who was near MLB ready is a bonus because I think they could have just as easily let Rios pass through waivers to the Rangers too.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) Do you have the expectation that he will dominate every start? Does he tend to? Can he still shut teams down when he's not on? Does he compare favorably to the top pitchers in the game? Is he a no-brainer to pitch game 1 of a playoff series? Does he consistently take the ball? Is he regularly going deep into games? If you answer yes to all these questions then you have an ace on your hands. The only question with Sale is his durability and I'm not ready to know him for that yet. Post more because I miss you. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) Ding ding ding. America's the safest it has been in a long time. That being said, still wish we had a way to stop these things. The worst part is that we can argue about this until we're long of tooth, but in the end, neither side is probably right. It reminds me of one of the times Dewey Cox goes to rehab - it seems like we need more guns AND we need less guns.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) Considering the value of this bonus will be about half of what it took to sign Jeff Keppinger, I don't think it means much to the "relationship" either way, unless Rodon winds up not signing. What they are going to be arguing about now with the new rules is total chump change. Yeah, with Rodon going 3rd, I'd say the odds of him signing are 99.99%. If he doesn't sign and goes back to school, he's risking ~$6 million for a potential gain of $2-3 mill, and with Aiken signing for $6.5 mill, it only puts more pressure on Rodon. If he's good, he'll earn much more than that over his career. If not, $6 million makes a hell of a good start to a portfolio and retirement account.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) White Sox Facebook Page: FB Noesi and the White Sox host the Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field at 7:10 CT on CSN and MLB.TV. FB? FB is a pretty common abbreviation for Facebook. I'm guessing they either have different wordings for Facebook and Twitter and they use these abbreviations to differentiate between them. Normally when they get C&P'd to these social networking sites, they will remove this. They merely forgot to. Or it could stand for Fartbreath Noesi, which is really an incredibly terrible thing to say, but at least they abbreviated it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Let's just say with this "Semien improved versatility move," the odds are decreasing that they're realistically looking at replacing Alexei Ramirez at any point in the near future. If they're going to replace him with anyone, Tim Anoderson's the only one close to the talent level of Ramirez. Nbody imagines he would make less than 30-40 errors in his rookie season in the big leagues, but he at least has UPSIDE at that position, vs. Sanchez and Semien who are more replacement level players at that position if you take both offense and defense into account. This is absolutely ridiculous too. YOU don't imagine he will commit fewer than that. If he makes it to the majors as a full time player, it's not likely going to be until 2017. That is going to give him 2 and a half more years to improve his glove. That is plenty of time.

Yeah, that may have been over the top, but at the end of the day, LeBron was the biggest reason the Heat won that game.
