Well, this is already a loss thanks to Kyyle starting the game thread, THANKS JERK

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) I'm not the one saying it was the reason the Heat won. The lead Lebron got was gone minutes later. And then back shortly after he came in. He drove and hit Bosh on the open 3 to give the Heat the lead and then, after San Antonio tried to force and trap him on their last possession, he got it to a wide open Bosh, who found Wade down low. Yeah, San Antonio should have made those 4 FTs, and you can just as easily say Chalmers got lucky that flagrant didn't cost them, but at the end of the day, if LeBron is average Lebron, putting up 26 and 8, Miami loses that game.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:09 AM) Sometimes it seems like Miami needs something to wake them up and keep them interested. Game 1 had every motivation they could have needed. You mean losing? Yeah, if I have to win Game 2 or go home down 0-2, that's about all the motivation I need to show up.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) Eh, he got hot at the start of the quarter, then left and the Spurs immediately took the lead back. He made some big plays at the end, but that loss came down to the Spurs missing 4 ft's, not running offense on 2 straight trips down the floor, and a huge Bosh 3. Tell me what happens if LeBron doesn't get hot.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 09:51 PM) Stupid. Somebody should have asked Robin if he liked playing the outfield in case he was needed out there. Sox are desperate for outfielders obviously. This is not a stupid move.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) I'll never understand coaches letting the other team work the clock down to less than 5 seconds hoping for a defensive stop when you're down 2 or 3. Yeah, that last minute was absolutely brutal for San Antonio.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 07:08 AM) Was there any surprise that Miami won this game? Not even trying to do the J4Life thing here, but the greatest player in the world got hot, took over the game, and left everyone in his trail. So no, no surprise.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) I'd say that's debatable, Micah Johnson looks like he could be a stud if he finds a home defensively. Anderson might be ahead of him but I wouldn't say the margin is that big. From a talent aspect, I do not believe this is close at all. Anderson's ceiling is absolutely ridiculously high.

There needs to be a name for Buehrle-type pitchers

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) I'd like to think Aces make all of their starts most seasons. Of course Sale is one of the best pitchers in baseball, but if this year is the beginning of him missing a month here or a half season there, there would need to be a new word to describe him. He's kind of an Ace right now, but he's bordering on "freak of nature that you pray stays healthy enough to lead a staff to the playoffs, and in the playoffs". But it's just a word. Pitch every 5th day, put up the innings and quality starts, and the numbers will be there that say he's one of the best. Most pitchers make 32-33 starts per season. Chris Sale has made 29 (and would have been 30 if not for the idiotic bullpen demotion) and 30 starts. Are you really, really, REALLY seriously dinging him for missing those starts? And are you really dinging him for the Sox being overly cautious in his first full season as starter, a season where they lost 99 games, and a season where their expectations for competition are diminished due to the talent level on hand? Chris Sale is a motherf***ing ace. -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) Hey, TUC. I know you were a big supporter of Kolek ( me too), just curious what your thoughts are about Rodon. Thanks, I'll hang up and listen. He wants to make baseball babies with him. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) It's all over. America is officially the worst place in the world to live in terms of people killing its own people (aside from lunatic dictators like the North Korean asshole offing people, etc). This is only going to get worse as the months, years pass. Should be interesting to see what happens as this escalates. I would assume eventually we are all going to be armed with guns as we go to churches, movies, ballgames, malls, etc., and there will be a lot of old fashioned shootouts when lunatic killers try to do their thing at such places. I would think at this rate the arming of Americans to protect themselves will reach a fever pitch before too many years pass. Undoubtedly there will be lots of accidents involving those guys. Maybe even some mass shootings that start when somebody accidentally fires his/her gun in a movie theatre and others panic and shoot the guy/girl who fired the accidental shot. These killings will not stop and can you imagine how many thousands (up to a million??) of sick, and or, desperate individuals are planning their own shooting sprees even as I type this? It's a sick sick USA we live in. (and I'm not even mentioning how we are offing our own environment, though other countries are helping ruin the planet in this regard as well ... good luck to us all as the glaciers melt). p.s. Congratulations and thanks for the students who tackled the bastard shooter. Also the people who piled on to hold him. I like attorneys, but I shudder to think of all the attorneys who will want to defend this bastard as it'll be another high profile case in which they try to get the guy off on insanity. You should move to Canada then. Oh wait, shootings happen there too.

I would be on board with a reasonably priced re-signing.

I just want you guys to know that so called baseball enthusiast "Eminor3rd" missed the entirety of picks 4-43* because of alleged sexual intercourse with a female partner. (I was working during the Rodon pick, what am I supposed to do, control when I work?) * - may be incorrect -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) That might be the most classic thread in Soxtalk history. We were so adorable as 16 year olds. I basically told C.Rector to suck it. Also, that thread is hilarious 10 years later considering how long Buehrle's stuck around. He's been the staple for durability. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) I'm just sick of people acting like there's something wrong with Buerhle cause he's "not an ace" when there are VERY FEW aces in baseball year in and out. You've been on this board for 12 years now. If you somehow missed the running "Mark Buehrle is not an ace" joke, then you can read through this thread (and 16 year old me talking like a clown) as a starting point. Kalapse crash landed a thread once too, but I can't find the thread. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) I see nobody will point out to me who is an ace in baseball since Mark got good. Talking about 'ace' is stupid because there are not many out there and never have been that many since the 60s when the mound was low. If you want to insist on using the word "ace," let's look at Cliff Lee (whom I pointed out), Felix Hernandez, Clayton Kershaw. Those guys are absolute studs year in and year out. Lee's probably going to start regressing soon, but until he does, you keep him there. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) Bad for five starts ... Hmm is Verlander still an ace? No, not that the term "ace" has any real connotation.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) Callis: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mock-d...ent_id=78353170 Callis & Mayo will have one more projection before tonight. I actually agree with fathom's logic on this that the Sox will take Nola in that instance due to the desire to compete so soon. For a team like the Cubs, who really don't seem to be in a hurry to compete, Kolek makes a lot more sense. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) No that is not the case. Movement and control ADDED to velocity is always more important. In the Major Leagues you have to pitch off your fastball and then after that usually is the change. That's why Nola is the safer pick. But if you develop the guy that can work in the mid to high 90's with a plus slider or curveball then instead of the opposing offense having to force their opportunities by putting the bat on the ball they're in the dugout praying for rain. Felix Hernandez has (arguably) been the best pitcher in the majors this year. He's at 90-93 with his fastball. You need velocity with regards to pitching in the same sense that you need arms with regards to pitching - there has to be SOMETHING there for effectiveness - but once it's at sufficient level, movement and command is far more important than pure velocity.
