QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 10:27 AM) More weeks of hope is always > fewer weeks of hope. Cumulatively speaking, I get to start hoping for next year sooner, so I always have more hope. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 09:30 AM) If I were a Bills fan, I would cut my wrist the long way and end it all. Just sayin', not like there's any Bills fans in here to offend, of course. At least the Bills' playoff hopes and aspirations for winning end by about week 9 or 10 every year. I'd hate to be a Bears fan that routinely has their seasons ended because of Porn Stache Rodgers. -

Balta is a Bills fan too. Pretty sure we are the only two human beings on the planet to be fans of the Chicago White Sox and the Buffalo Bills. Up until 2005, there were not many team combinations worse to cheer for. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 11:58 PM) VEISHEA is cancelled. I didn't really want to see TI anyways. Kid was hit by a light pole last night, now in ICU. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/09/p..._n_5118949.html Holy s***. I was never able to make it, but that suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) The K improvement was definitely noted and encouraging, though in increasing his contact rate, he lost some pop. Hopefully the two come together this year. I don't think any of the FS voters from our last poll had completely abandoned ship on Thompson, he was at least in the mid-teens on everyone's list, T10 for some. danman31 will be happy to see this thread. Dan is probably going to do cartwheels when he sees this thread just knowing there are others still on the bandwagon. Trayce is definitely a guy that the Sox still have to consider in their plans, but to what extent that is will be up to Trayce. If he can start hitting for average, he's got a shot to be a really good player still.

Pffft, haters gonna hate It was either going to be that or the Dolphins, and at least Bills-Lions has Jim Schwartz coming back to town. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) Josh Feldman @BigTexJosh 22m #WhiteSox Executive VP Ken Williams is in Kannapolis today. His son Tyler enters today leading the SAL with a .556 average. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?p...&pid=573247 He looks like Dad, but he was 5 for 9 entering the day. That's as big of a "who cares" as I think you can find. At least they aren't lying I guess.

Mitchell's a little wild still, but an encouraging outing. Ended his start going walk, single, wild pitch (run), single (run). Storm came on and went K, fly ball, ground ball.

As of today... who is the #6 starter for the Sox?

QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) But Sox brass have already stated that they plan on going after pitching and that they are prioritizing college pitchers. I don't think they've stated they plan on going after pitching, but that the pitching depth is very good and there are good arms. They likely have their mind made up, and it is likely to be a pitcher, but they could certainly see something new in a hitter in the next few weeks that turns their attention to something like that (or maybe one of those top hitters wants to sign for $500k, which incentivizes the Sox into taking him to save money elsewhere). Lots of time for things to change still.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7900/ What's his excuse? He's getting paid a lot more than Santiago. He's supposed to be a 2 guy, not a back of the rotation guy like Hector. We would be 0-2 in his starts, by the way, not 1-1 like we are with Paulino. Yeah, don't bring this up. There's no point to it.

Depends on who's freshest, but Rienzo makes the most sense for a lot of different reasons. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) Yes, and then he almost completely disappeared from the team for about 6-7 weeks...even though he was still on the major league roster. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...p&year=2012 He didn't disappear, he just kept crapping his pants in high leverage situations, so they used him in low leverage situations. If a guy can't be trusted in important spots, are you really going to blame the manager for not putting him into the game in those situations?
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 08:50 AM) Myers has a solid arm, but he doesn't have the ability to play CF regularly or steal 25-35 bases, which Harper could do if he chose to change his game in that direction. Considering the initial post was comparing Harper and Myers' bats, this does not make a lot of sense. Plus, if the biggest difference you can come up with is essentially that Harper is a little faster (and he's by no means head and shoulders faster than Myers), then I'd say they're pretty similar athletes.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) Heck, I'd almost rather have Daniel Webb start games, but that's not a real option. As noted in the thread, we don't really have a long man right now, and I know the White Sox are just trying to help him ease into a set-up role, but I hope he doesn't become the forgotten/banished guy like Hector Santiago. You mean they guy they traded to get the Opening Day centerfielder? You really bring up some off the wall stuff that does not compute. Santiago was anything but forgotten or banished. For crying out loud, Ventura made him the closer as a rookie out of spring training!

As NSS said, please feel free to ask questions. We have no problem coming up with topics on our own, but if there are things you want us to discuss or players you maybe want us to go a little more in depth on, or just anything in general, fire away. We do this because we like talking Sox minor league stuff, but we're primarily doing it for your pleasure.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 12:07 AM) There's a wide spectrum of difference in terms of athleticism/explosiveness between a Harper and a Myers type. Not really.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 06:23 PM) I think you just doomed Edwin Jackson and Verlander. On second thought, the Cubs might be happier with the insurance payouts and moving on. Those guys never had injury concerns though. Jackson's 150 pitch game (also his no-hitter) was like 4 years ago. Santana had a reconstructed shoulder.
-
Knowledge and rehabilitation from shoulder injuries has improved over the past few years with the caveat that expectations be tempered. Prior to Santana re-destroying his shoulder, likely thanks a lot to his 150 pitch no hitter, was pitching very well, Danks looks much improved, Chien-Ming Wang has bounced around and could probably stick as a #5 with some team. This is a perfect worthwhile gamble.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) I do this every season, just before the first inter-league series. Here is a look at the MLB hitting track records for all pitchers currently on the White Sox roster... Chris Sale: 0-for-2, 1 SAC, 2 K Felipe Paulino: .143/.172/.161, 9 SAC, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 29 K in 67 PA (has 1 XBH, a double) John Danks: .041/.098/.041, 3 SAC, 1 BB , 7 K in 25 PA (he has 1 hit) Erik Johnson: n/a Jose Quintana: 0-for-5, 1 SAC, 1 BB, 4 K Nate Jones: n/a Matt Lindstrom (DL): 1 PA, struck out Daniel Webb: n/a Jake Petricka: n/a Scott Downs: .067/.125/.067, 10 SAC, 3 BB, 17 K in 58 PA Donnie Veal: 1 PA, SAC Ronald Belisario: 0-for-5, 3 K Maikel Cleto: 0-for-3, 3 K Not a good hitter in the bunch, but some guys we haven't seen, so maybe they can do something. Paulino looks like the pitching staff's best hitter. Not exactly Garland and Buehrle of yesteryear. EDIT: OK, Buehrle was terrible, but he did homer. Garland was fairly decent.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) From personal experience, I would say yes. At the second game, I was throwing about 33-34 mph on the radar gun on the outfield concourse. I'm usually in the 36-37 mph range. We should get you working with Herm on the shoulder regimen. We could have you up to 42-45 in no time.

Who's buying this excuse for Hawkins' 2013 struggles?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 01:34 AM) And then you can point to the cockiest player in the MLB, Brett Lawrie, who outside of a very good rookie season (sound familiar?), hasn't put up a good season. I don't want a soft headcase, but I also don't one a cocky kid who things the game owes him something. Fortunately there is a TON of middle ground where nearly the entire cast of MLB players reside. First of all, I don't believe that to be true about Lawrie, but I do believe he is uber confident in himself. Second, the cockiest player in history is probably Barry Bonds. I think we saw how that turned out. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) One can assume that the comment was made because of Denver's location. It's windy and a mile high over there. The Rockies play in Denver. If those factors are always existent there, then the Rockies should theoretically lead the majors in HRs every year. Except that the humidor balls really keep the ball down there. There are still a lot of home runs hit at Coors each year The park is still a monstrosity and it's very easy to hit well there. Plus, you still need power/home run hitters to actually be playing there. Gonzalez, Rosario, Tulowitzski, and maybe Cuddyer are all they had for power hitters last year, and Gonzalez and Tulo missed 78 combined games. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) Sox are 3rd in MLB in OPB, 1st in SLG, and T-1st in HR. They also just got done facnig one of the worst pitching staffs in the league. I think it will be better, but it's not going to be that prolific all year.
