Twins have "internal discussions" about Cabrera and Crede
witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) What's ironic about the whole debate is when most people call out this teams makeup, and talk about what the offense needs, Cabrera fits pretty much all the things supposedly missing from the team. This isn't defending Cabrera, as he is my least favorite White Sox in the last 5 years, but you can find some humor in it. I agree, and that's why I've brought up the points that I have. -

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) My hatred for him may be blinding me, but what are all these clutch base hits you speak of? I don't know what I was thinking last night when I wrote that, being drunk and all, but what I really meant was that you know exactly what you get with Cabrera. He puts up a good average, puts the ball in play a lot, and plays good defense (not outstanding but good). I just wouldn't mind seeing him back really is all, but there are certainly better options. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) Let OC go be a cancer with the Twins. I've agreed with a lot that you've said and will still continue to do so, but I don't understand. His teammates don't like him, that I get, but how is OC a cancer? He just seems like the guy that will get a single when a single is necessary (minus Balfour, of course). I honestly wouldn't mind seeing OC resigned, but I obviously doubt that will happen. -
I recall an incident a few years ago when AJ was still with the Twins where he yelled asshole or something to that effect when Maggs was at the plate. So Sox fans should boo him too, right? People boo Pierzynski because he IS an asshole. That's why Twins fans do it too.

I might be one of the few, but I'd really like to see Cabrera back next year. I'm going to just assume he won't be, but he's good defensively and he's a good hitter.

Do you think KW would undo the Chris Young trade now?
witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Why anybody would want Clayton Richard in the rotation is beyond me. Until he refines another pitch or two, he's a bullpen guy (and he'd be a damn good one too). -
YES I A M D R U N K FOOLS SO WTF f***ERS

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) Which is really ignorant, as Wise is terrible on defense. He plays extremely deep, yet he's terrible on plays near the wall. and he really doesn't seem that damn fast to me. Dare I say, I'd rather have Jerry Owens in LF than Wise.

AND THATS A CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) Especially that white one in the middle. that's actually my older uncle...we defected in 1992, but I don't remember much from it. I haven't talked to him much, and since that time, he's changed his last name. -
It's way f***ing better than Wise. I'd prefer OC-Swish-Dye, but whatever the hell gets Wise out of there works for me.
-
I'm still surprised AJ hung onto that ball. Cuddyer should have tried to hit the ball out of his glove, because if he did, there's no way AJ hangs on to it. Instead he just ran into his arm.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) If the White Sox are fortunate enough to advance to the ALCS, I know they would start on the road versus LAA, but can anyone tell me who has home field advantage if they face the Red Sox? I think despite their record the White Sox would have home field advantage since they are a division winner, correct? I'm quite certain you are correct

WAS IT OVER WHEN THE GERMANS BOMBED PEARL HARBOR?

I'm pretty sure I actually hooked up with the Clorette DePasto the other day -
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Wise appears to be a faster Mackowiak-great as a part time player, but less than mediocre as a starter. Swisher in left- Mackowiak is a much better hitter than Wise is.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) Can't believe they left off Edwin. I would've at least put him in the bullpen. I think that's a mistake by Maddon and company. Of course, I'm pretty sure they have Price on their roster so it's not like they'll be empty handed with studly arms.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) What good does Wise's speed do if he can't read the ball off the bat? The man gets some horrendous jumps. and what speed are you guys talking about? He's not fast, he's just got slightly above average speed. Swisher has that too but he actually gets good jumps on the ball.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) Thing with Ramirez is if we bring him I dont to see him face anyone except Carlos Pena. So its like bringing his arm for just one hitter. I just wouldnt trust him against anyone else. and for whatever reason you trust him against Pena. I don't care what that average is against lefties, I don't trust Ramirez against Pena. And for whatever reason, people think Horacio is good against lefties because he throws from the left side. LHB have hit .350 against him and he has a 1.98 WHIP against them. His ERA with the Sox is 7.62 and his WHIP is 2.46. If he's on the roster, it's a damn shame. I'd rather have Boone Logan on the playoff roster. The starters get the lineup for the first 6. Then use Richard to get Pena (and whatever other lefties). Then use Thornton. If one of them has to face a righty to get to 2 lefties, so be it. I'm really not that scared of this Tampa lineup, other than really Longoria and Pena. The Sox lineup is vastly superior. It's the pitching that should be of concern, but all the starters are beatable (though Shields and Kazmir are obviously ridiculously tough).

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) I think Swisher is a better defensive outfielder than Wise. Wise doesn't make me feel comfortable defensively. agree completely...any time a ball is headed his direction I assume the ball is dropping or getting by him. In the past 10 games, Wise saw his season average go from .290 to .248. That should tell you all you need to know about him starting. Swisher has power, has a better approach at the plate, and plays a better defensive LF. He should be starting for the Sox. The only thing he doesn't really do well is bunt, but Wise didn't do much of that either anyways.

This team obviously did not need to go into a rebuilding mode this past offseason. Sorry for thinking they would not finish any higher than like 4th before the Swisher trade.

oh and Jim, thanks again for having always been a class act. The Twins are loaded with talent and I fear next year might be crazier and I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see them win 100 games. Find a 3Bman (other than Beltre, I already have dibs on him), and that rotation is ridiculous too. Just tell Gomez to settle the f*** down...or not if it means another season like this past one.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) Javy has got to step up and produce at some point. I strangely feel really good about this game. I do too. Javy can not care all he wants to, but he's along for the ride so he may as well start giving a s*** and pitching well. Seeing Buehrle, Floyd, and Danks show him up has to burn his ass a little too.
-
It's not all about defense from a backup catcher, otherwise Miguel Olivo would be back. The pitchers have to be comfortable throwing to him or else it's all for not. And statistically, Miguel Olivo would have been a fantastic backup catcher for the Sox.
-
Unless their rotation blows up, there's no way the Twins won't be good next year. I'm scared s***less to be quite honest. That's a ridiculous rotation and offensive core they have. The hype will probably be on the Sox, Tigers, or Indians, but the AL Central will almost certainly be one of the best divisions in baseball again next season.
