  1. so extremely disappointed me and Gavin can't go
  2. QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) Wow balta, as usual thanks for the stat. AJ played in 140 games? Well, he can do it again. As far as him not hitting lefties, he's not as bad as Thome and Pods is he? Our lineup should suck it up and focus more when we face the lefties of our division this year. We need to get on them early and knock them up and out of the game before they get on a roll. This may be blasphemous, but guys like Thome should confound the shift and just try to get bat on ball against lefties and fricking get on base. Pods and AJ too. Just stroke a single or take a walk. None of these power swings vs. lefties when you are a lefty. Am I off base here??? AJ really shouldn't play 140 games - due to that ridiculous workload, he was gassed by August. He had a solid September, but nothing earth shattering. August is really when the Sox need to bear down as a team, because it's been August the last 3 years where the team has just completely tanked. Coincidentally - or not - Ozzie's managed the White Sox 3 years. Think it may have something to do with him running the starting pitching out there for 7-9 innings every single night and not using his bullpen? Think it's maybe why the bullpen is rusty come August? Think Ozzie never giving the big guns consistent rest throughout the previous 4 months is why they start to slow down, and the bench players are mediocre? Yeah, I'd venture to guess it has something to do with that. And to answer your questions about lefties, Pierzynski did try and just get singles last year against lefties, hence his .270 average, 38 hits, and 5 XBH's against lefties. He really wasn't looking to do a lot with the ball, mainly just get it in play. Thome tried to kill the ball, but that's Thome being Thome. However, even in hitting .236 against lefties last year, Thome still got on at a .354 clip, so he was getting on base at a very productive clip, he just was never putting the ball in play. Podsednik, as opposed to those other two, just flat out sucks against lefties. He got about 151 PA's against LHP, and put up a .562 OPS. If I had to suggest something, I'd say have him get about 130 fewer PA's against LHP this year and the team will be a bit better. He'll likely be a little better this year, but I wouldn't bank on it. so no, you're not off-base at all, but what you're suggesting is stuff the guys are already doing. It would just be nice if the Sox had a couple of better options in those situations.
  3. Dustin Hermanson, since August 1, 2004: 92 G (0 GS), 91 IP, 74 H, 29 ER, 8 HR, 29 BB, 66 K those numbers result in... 2.87 ERA 1.13 WHIP 6.5 K/9 2.9 BB/9 2.3 K/BB 0.8 HR/9 he good
  4. QUOTE(whitesox07champs @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) Man thats just ignorant. I never said they dont count. Of course they do but tell me, last year with the start that the sox had and the start that the twins had. Which games counted more the White sox april wins or the Twins wins in September? I dont know about you, but from what I saw the Twins were a much better team when IT COUNTED. If you wanna be a dumb fan who cant see things the way they are thats youre problem. But sometimes we gotta look at the bigger picture. Kinda sounds like the pot calling the rainbow black, ya know?
  5. QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) I guess you should change your board name /thread
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) I usually dont root for players to get injured, but if it isn't career threatening and it is a player in the AL Central, I root for everyone to get injured, of course for the players not on the White Sox. yeah that's still pretty s***ty of you
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 01:19 PM) Timo will never know how much his 31 at bats with the Cardinals last year mean to me. I'm really just scared Detroit will call him up at some point this season. He'd wreak havoc.
  8. and a developing change up (or is it a curve? I can't rememer) the guy is going to be a horse
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) David Eckstein has always had trouble drawing walks, atleast that was the case when he played in the American League, not to tough to do that in the NL Central. He has the worst infield arm in the history of baseball as well as lackluster range, yeah he does hustle the guy's a grinder I wouldn't expect any less. Timo Perez and Scott Spezio also have 2 world series rings, so yeah I don't care. If you're going to pay a secondbaseman $5M a year I'll take Iguchi over Eck every day of the week. was waiting for that one
  10. For anyone to question Boone Logan right now is to question the truth God he is gonna be such a good reliever in 2 year's time.
  11. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) thanks for the update. you're welcome but, completely unrelated to that, let me ask - is a bust better than nothing?
  12. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:49 PM) Off Topic: I'm sorry Wite, but it looks it your losing that bet already unless there's a catch that I'm not aware about. (Like him starting 27+ in AAA since it's just the "season" not the ML level.. ) we'll see Contreras is 58, Buehrle's looked like s***, and Danks is a rookie. It's possible he'll be up by May.
  13. I have never felt this sick going into a season ever. They can be best team in the league, and that's the part that makes me feel sick, because with the way the current situation appears, it doesn't matter if you perform well - if you are in Ozzie's doghouse, you aren't coming out.
  14. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 07:18 PM) well, he is a pro-bowler and supposedly in the top 5 for his position in the league. you know what you're getting with Briggs. that #6 could be a bust. but if Angelo makes the deal i won't complain. yeah, he's a guy that won't play all year for the Bears
  15. MacDougal, Dye, Contreras or Floyd, Pods, Floyd
  16. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) I'm really confused as to how people who were confident going into this spring training with gavin floyd or danks as a fifth starter, knowing they would probably be inconsistent as hell to start off, are suddenly now changing their season long expectations I'm not sure it was the 5th starter that has made people change their minds nearly as much as having Pods-Erstad at the top of the order along with velocity being down all around camp. Those are much bigger factors to me than the 5th starter, and I've said just as much in the past.
  17. QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) Well aren't you a ray of sunlight on a rainy afternoon. Maybe those in the "know how" will wisen up and put the omniscient Kalapse in charge of everything... *yawn* one can only hope
  18. where'd you play last year The (Venezuelan) Penal League How'd you get there? Tried to kill a guy
  19. I think the Brewers are #1 I'm just as right as that guy, whatever the hell his rankings are
  20. QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) Sure, that they don't have people from this board managing them and running the organization. I really hope they prove a lot of people wrong here. really, I don't, I hope they lose and lose and lose so that way they get the #1 overall pick :rolly Of course we hope they prove us wrong, that doesn't change the fact that fans can think a team looks like s*** and they aren't optimistic about the potential outcome. It's our right as a fan, and just because we think the team is going to suck does not mean we do not want the team to do well. It's our right as a fan to question the judgment of the manager and general manager, and to offer our thoughts on how they could possibly fix them. It's our right as a fan to really do whatever the hell we want so long as we are not completely out of line - and no one here has been - and to hope and pray that the team wins, and to root them on, logic be damned. If you don't do either of those last two - especially the final part - you no longer are a fan. (and I really bet if you got enough of the brightest minds on here, it'd be possible to keep the team above water)
  21. What Flash said...KW wanted Hirsh, Pence, Buchholz, and Taveras for Garland, and HE turned down Hirsh, Buchholz, and Taveras for Garland. Getting 2 top 5 prospects, a capable 5th starter, and a 3 tool CFer would have been a heist. Purpura would have gladly traded Hirsh, Buccholz, and Taveras for Garland. and FWIW, Colorado's Park Factor last year was 107/107, per br.com. That's hitter friendly, but not nearly what it's been in the past (113/112 in '05, 120/117 in '04, 112/111 in '03, 121/119 in '02, 122/119 in '01 and then 131/128 in 2000 cuz like everybody in the league hit 40 homers). They've started putting balls in humidifiers there, and as a result, the ball has become heavier and doesn't carry as well.
  22. QUOTE(ChiSoxLifer @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) Holy crap. If KW knew enough to trade a pitcher who can barely throw a fastball above 87 mph, don't you think GMs and scouts knew that too? Garcia did not win 17 games because he was a solid pitcher. He won 17 games because the Sox offense saved his ass. I even read articles last summer where scouts said Garcia's done. Now if scouts, GMs, and most fans who watched him pitch knew that, do you think any GM in his right mind would offer much for Freddy? This spring has shown what everyone (except maybe you) knew. Freddy hasn't gotten the ball past 84 mph and is already hurt. Get off it already. I dunno, ask Omar Minaya, Bill Stoneman, Tim Purpura, Josh Byrnes, Bill Bavasi, and probably a few others as well (Cashman? Epstein? Krivsky? Ricciardi?) if they were interested in Freddy Garcia at any point this past offseason. I think they'll probably tell you they inquired. If at any point in time half of those GMs talked to the White Sox about Freddy Garcia, then the lack of value KW got for Garcia is inexcusable. If you had watched Freddy Garcia's last month in a White Sox uniform, you would have seen a guy who seemed to have learned how to throw with garbage by adding a split finger into his repertoire; also, there was the possibility that it wasn't any type of injury but rather starting at 100% for the WBC that caused for his lack of velocity throughout the year. It seems pretty apparent to me atleast that Garcia had value, albeit slightly diminished due to having one year left on his deal. The fact remains that the only two things Jason Jennings had on Freddy Garcia were age and production in 2006 - and what also must be considered is that Jennings pitched in the NL while Garcia the AL in a year when the AL was much superior in terms of offense opposed to the NL, and on top of that, Garcia pitched in the AL Central, which featured 4 of the top 8 offenses in the AL. That will increase a pitcher's ERA too. Flat out what I'm trying to say is that by looking at the numbers, looking at how he pitched in September upon developing his new split finger, and looking at the market for starting pitchers - with Jennings being the best comparison to Garcia on the trade market - KW failed in getting both value and talent. If that is the absolute best offer KW had on the table, and KW told me that to my face, I'd probably call him a liar to his face (in a much more polite way), because atleast value wise, it's just almost not possible. Talent wise, maybe he got enough, but Philadelphia was looking to give Floyd away and Gio was coming off of a mediocre year in AA, while a guy like Jason Hirsh had simply spectacular numbers (though slightly above average peripherals), Taylor Buchholz was an acceptable major league 5th starter, and Willy Taveras stole 33 bases and became a more patient hitter last year. If you compare those packages, Colorado's is far and away superior. If you include Greg Golson from Philadelphia - a guy the White Sox could turn into something very good - then the trade is justified in my mind, even seeing as how Golson's been mediocre as hell and is 22 in A ball. Using this "look at him now, he still sucks, maybe he's worse" at this point is completely pointless and holds no grounds, because I am talking about something that happened in December and not March. If that's what you're trying to argue, I'd suggest you stop, because you're arguing oranges to my apples.
  23. I am starting to feel really s***ty about the team this year. Like 4th place s***ty.
  24. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) He gave him a shot and Anderson proved again that he is clueless at the plate. Have you watched any of the games or looked at any of the numbers? Or are you just saying that based on an unwarranted hatred for Brian Anderson?
  25. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) The Phillies wanted to dump Floyd on someone else, and this allowed them to save face. He just needed a change of environment, similar to Borchard and Thornton last spring. The key part of the deal was Gio. And where would we be with Garcia right now? The same place that everyone suspected, a pitcher throwing 80-84/85 MPH and relying on breaking stuff and maybe on the DL or facing season-ending surgery for an impingement in his shoulder. We're better off with Gio NOW than waiting 3-4 years for a pitcher or two that MIGHT develop into something of use. Anything we can get out of Floyd or Rasner is a bonus. Where we would be with Garcia right now is not the point. The point is the White Sox got two boom or bust prospects for a solid starting pitcher, with both of them having shady backgrounds. KW couldn't have gotten one prospect who looks like he's actually starting to figure things out for Garcia? That's my problem with the trade, and nothing beyond that. Hindsight is 20/20, and while Garcia does indeed look like s***, he didn't look this s***ty in December. To get a 5'10 LHP with injury concerns and mediocre control in AA along with a throw-in for a guy coming off of a 4.53 ERA, 215 IP year is unacceptable, period.
