Would have been a homer in hot/day weather by Sosa...
-
Schiff, no more Flaherty Fried Giolito Katz in high school or Vargas swing change stories...
-
Gomez looking good the first inning. Unfortunately we already have Martin Burke Cannon with pretty much the same stuff. Burke at least has the off speed pure stuff to get more swings and misses when he's right, along with Shane Smith.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=muraka000mun Back from injury...finally. OPS of almost 1.100 for less than a month with Yakult. Sasaki also coming back soon. Will be fascinating to see if Murakami comes over or waits one more year. Muncy Bregman (option to leave likely exercised) LAD Boston Yankees will all have a big say.

Sox and six other teams w/o Top 100 player
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Also, note the position/s of Kyle Stowers and Yordan Alvarez, missing with Acuna Jr. Alvarez and Sosa are probably the two best pure hitters of this generation. Also, Mookie Betts just doesn't hit below 70s for a full season. But he has been off since losing 15-20 pounds due to illness first two weeks of the season ( Japan trip). -
Would you be on board with a rebrand when Ishbia takes over?
caulfield12 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox were only in first that year until mid May...were already facing when the infamous Shields/Johnson/Tatis deal went down. You mean 2006? -

Leftover Elvis Bobbleheads somewhere in storage? -
Who was that one armed hitter Pete Gray/Gray or something like that? Also, memories of Luis Robert lol.

Braden has decent but not elite CF speed and high-level ability across four tools. Bonemer is unlikely to stick up the middle...and it remains to be seen if he's a 15-18 homer guy or possibly high 20s as he fills out. For younger kids, most high schoolers, High A will be the first big challenge.

There was an article recently on how they've let $1 billion worth of podcasts leave in recent years...Simmons, Cowherd, Le Batard, Ryan Russilo, etc. https://www.si.com/onsi/athlete-lifestyle/business/ex-espn-star-believes-over-a-billion-dollars-walked-out-the-door McAfee and Smith are so polarizing...ofc by intent.

Didn't Hendriks or Kimbrel blow the lead in that one? Or both? High water mark for the Sox since 2005-06-08.

Sox and six other teams w/o Top 100 player
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rooker and Butler already signed to an extension, wouldn't be all that surprised if Langeliers Wilson Kurtz de Vries are next. Note Kurtz from last year's draft already Top 50. One of Hagen or Schultz has to make this Top 100 or the rebuild is screwed as the Sox simply don't buy or rent quality pitching anymore. Presumably Sale Rodon maybe Giolito Cease all in that back end of the Top 100. Dylan Cease is still the #8 FA available despite another off year in terms of W/L and walks. Looking like a good "buy lower" candidate for 2026 FA in the $175-225 million range depending on years. Coming off 2024, $250-275 million looked quite possible. -
https://global.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45947026/mlb-rank-2025-season-update-top-50-baseball-players-judge-ohtani-skubal-raleigh Acuna would have made it for ATL but has missed too much time. No Brewers. No relievers. Crochet and Tatis, Jr., two former Sox properties at #10 and #13. PCA #7 Tucker #11 Skubal Witt Jr. Jose Ramirez in Top 8 Buxton mid 20s

Top Ten draft picks are always going to get the benefit of the doubt over second rounders. Has always been that way. Easier for a first rounder to stay on a list than for anyone from lower rounds to break through. Kristian Campbell was a huge exception getting into the Top 15 in one year as a fourth rounder...but his struggles at the mlb level just reinforce the volatility of the rankings when such a big jump across three levels occurs. We had Vaughn/Madrigal, now it looks like Jacob Gonzalez/H.Smith will be the next pairing of questionable 1st round picks unless something changes dramatically like it did for Colson.
-
Hasn't Seager also had some back/disc/spasm issues? Colson swings the bat so violently...obviously playing with all the confidence in the world now, but are their metrics on his swing speed and EV's comparing 2023/24/25??? Was he swinging the same way in the AFL?

https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/ask/mlb-home-runs-leaders-2025-rookies Colson moving quickly up the leaderboard. Kurtz or Wilson will win in the AL, Baldwin or Ramirez in the NL.

Adrian Houser traded to TB for former top prospect Curtis Mead
caulfield12 replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Mead just doesn't have enough power for a corner spot, definitely isn't a SS...and we already have about 7-8 potential 2B men. Sox love collecting former Top 100 prospects 2-3 years after their expiratoon dates. -

Brewers' streak is unreal Quintana will be 10-4, Vaughn 1/2 RBI bb Franchise high 31 games over .500, going back to their best playoff team finishing 96-66 in the heart of Yelich/Braun surge and 1982 Harvey's Wallbangers. -

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2025/02/mlb-espn-split-blame-media-strategy-roku-apple-deals/ Netflix going after Home Run Derby…might get split up 3-5 ways without ESPN. -
They simply couldn’t take the risk of an extension without major incentives. Naylor gone, Kwan likely out soon (trade in offseason) as they turn to impressive minor league depth. Baltimore broke through for two years…Cleveland could make the WC. Seattle and SD are decidedly not first tier markets. Detroit as well this year. But it’s really really tough now at below a $150 million payroll. Fwiw the A’s will be a real interesting case with their young lineup.

Arguably four of the Top Ten players are out with extended injuries…Reese at least in terms of name recognition. Clark, Collier (MVP favorite), Stewart, Reese Paige Bueckers has been hurt a lot too…and they’re not guarding her 94 feet with double teams and traps like they do with Clark.
