  1. Guess it worked (it was even hit right-handed!)...but someone with his defensive abilities shouldn’t be on a projected path to 20 errors, not at 3B. He’s lucky he didn’t get pulled from the game outright. And another double...quite the response, OPS at 897.
  2. Jose Abreu's rank among 24 qualified 1B (according to FanGraphs) OBP: 23rd OPS: 17th wOBA: 20th wRC+: 18th K%: 16th BB%: 24th
  3. Will just have to wait and see if it has a positive or negative effect...took him down into the tunnel leading into clubhouse after his terribly nonchalant play on the pop up down the line and really laid into him. Right afterward, Yoan just stayed put at 3B when it was pretty clear he could have scored from third on a medium-depth ball to Buxton (Arraez did score twice this series with less speed on similar balls)....luckily, Castillo followed with a sac fly.
  4. Now Renteria took all of Moncada’s aggressiveness away...when the much slower Arraez scored twice on similar balls.
  5. I’m sure Diamondbacks fans will be simply elated they’re selling when it turns out the Giants might not...they already auctioned off Goldschmidt. Definition of a team stuck in the middle of contending and rebuilding. They have some really good pieces (Marte has been great this year) but just not enough.
  6. Surprised the #metoo movement never organized a protest. Probably because half their husbands and boyfriends value winning a lot more than integrity/morals/ethics/values. In all seriousness, obviously there are many single women too, but the complaints and outcry from protest groups is almost exclusively aimed at the NFL and not MLB. More of a psychological connection between football and violence?....maybe the size of some of the athletes. I guess skin color is impossible to completely overlook, too.
  7. Maybe he’s unhappy with how Epstein defended him in the offseason and then reversed course and finally just gave up on him in the last 7-10 days...protest? By by the way, Strop and Edwards Jr. are toast. Not sure how long until Cishek’s arm falls off. Ryan is not exactly prime time Andrew Miller, either.
  8. Probably Corey Dickerson who’s overpaid with a small market team...injury-plagued....and doesn’t require shelling out for Marcell Ozuna. More likely the LH power comes from the dreaded DH spot we can never seem to fill adequately but consistently overpay.
  9. Lets not forget how Ventura’s career started out. Highly unlikely there’s a repeat, but we owe the fans more of an opportunity for our own home-grown first rounder than AJ Reed is currently receiving.
  10. Let’s not forget how good Loiaza was in 2003...and probably whoever acquires him would turn Lopez into a Cy Young winner, as he’s the pitcher on the big league roster other teams would target, knowing Giolito won’t be going anywhere.
  11. Have a feeling the “infectious fun” will be limited to Yolmer, Anderson, Jimenez and talk, once again, of a higher Top Ten draft pick. Especially with 18 games out of 61 remaining against CLE and MN.
  12. Poor James...he’s already adopting a vegan diet composed of “nuts only” after his name was changed from Fegan. Probably the most knowledgeable, “in the know” guy covering the Sox (professionally) right now.
  13. Three and $20-25 million seems fair...if they love his defense and work with young pitchers enough. You start paying him $5 million as a FA or extension, he’s looking over his shoulder for a replacement to take his place.
  14. The Padres desperately need a veteran stabilizer (2020 and beyond) to eventually pair with Paddack and Gore, and they have the prospect depth to pull it off... To the thread topic, when he blows a save though...Diaz completely goes off the rails. Some of it has been defense-induced, but there’s no way you should overpay when so many closers with extreme velocity and lots of wear and tear go on the market. Yates doesn’t throw nearly as hard but is more effective, better command and actually hasn’t been abused like Diaz as a set guy in SEA.
  15. Jack Parkman is just waiting for us to select a “limited tool/s” prospect again...
  16. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=13781&position=P Nobody knows because of Wood’s injury and the whole transition to the AL thing for a pitcher who has spent his whole career in the NL. The numbers in 2017 and 2018 are quite similar to Gonzales’ 2018/19. That said, that makes him the perfect buy low candidate...of course, if everyone sitting out the Gerrit Cole sweepstakes views him similarly (and doesn’t wish to overpay Bumgarner for years of wear and tear), we have a scenario of increasing demand and limited supply, not to mention a premium for left handers to help balance out rotations that are RH dominant like we currently have rostered.
  17. The drop off from Cole to #2 on the FA list at this point is substantial...
  18. Now we understand why Cubs’ fans are pissed about Q, because they’re quite similar. Someone pointed him out statistically at #29, but most think of him as a 3/4 guy and not an ace or TOR.
  19. Greinke is 50-75% about salary relief...but they can’t trade him during the season just 3.5 games back in the wild card race (I know, I know, White Flag was almost same exact number trailing CLE.)
  20. Likely to get a better read from the Arizona Fall League...(although Engel managed to put up good numbers there.) Definitely face higher quality pitching on a daily basis.
  21. They better hurry up, the way things are going...we could fall below 70 wins again and back into the conversation for the #5-6 picks and possibly even 4th. Although the returns of Jimenez and Anderson will likely prevent that from happening. Fangraphs has it like this as of today... 1. Baltimore and Detroit (probably get another superstar to go with Mize), 56-106 3. Miami, 63-99 4. KC and Toronto, 65-97 6. Seattle, 69-93 7. White Sox, 70-92 We’re five to seven meaningless late season losses from picking 3rd to 5th again.
  22. One wouldn’t read into this that they’re going to make it a huge weekend-long party to announce the signings of Cole, Ozuna, Grandal and Betances....
  23. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=15467&position=P Some of his baseline stats like K9and BB9 are a little worse...but for these two years, he has been the precise definition of a 3 fWAR starter. On paper, as a free agent, you’d pay at least $20-25 million per year. Most fans aren’t as familiar with him, especially since he plays most of his games at 9 p.m., so the idea of him being of a similar value to Quintana in 2017 is kinda shocking. The fact that he’s got three arbitration years remaining, that means the ask is going to be something like Lopez or Dunning, Walker and Adolfo. We can throw Fulmer or Hansen into it, as well...Collins, etc. The Cubs have had Quintana for 2 1/2 seasons and hold the option for 2020. He’s a similar age 27 as Q, throws LH, former first round draft pick. Their repertoires aren’t even that different, as both are finesse pitchers. He’s also arguably been pitching better than Quintana in 2017...and not on an obvious downtrend or at least plateauing in terms of his career trajectory.
  24. It’s not like we are getting beaten out by the Red Sox, Yankees, Astros or Dodgers. That would be more understandable. It’s even smaller market teams like the Twins, Indians...for example, the Giants have won 18 of their last 22 and are playing themselves right into the wild card hunt. Even teams who “retool on the fly” are giving their fans something to be excited about...just hard to be excited about baseball now when it’s starting to seem 2020 will be yet another lost season. On paper, the Giants are not more talented than the White Sox, but they have a Hall of Fame manager.
  25. Dodgers desperately need some bullpen help...
