Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Machado for the quoted prices with Pollock and even Keuchel make a LOT more sense than Machado AND Harper for the Phillies. Somehow the offer has gone from $240 to 250 to even $265ish down to below $200 million, lol...

Eagles. Can we change the thread title to a new movie connection every day? Because "Feigned Apathy Room" isn't very catchy.

That would be incredibly ballsy, if not suicidal, to negotiate down from $210 million unless Lozano is insisting on a 3 year opt~out to get it done.

Ooops...I meant Eagles/Alshon Jeffrey interception.

Poor Ariana Grande is going to end up as one of those child-star headcases like Amanda Bynes or Lindsey Lohan by the time all is said and done.

John Wetteland In disturbing legal trouble
The first thought that came to mind was that Oregon State pitcher...but doing it as an adult, it seems like there are ZERO mitigating circumstances. Maybe being a privileged professional athlete who earned millions, you begin to believe you're untouchable or bulletproof, or that being surrounded by people don't know how to tell you NO! leads to some dangerous consequences.

I also never thought Chitownsportsfan would join the "skeptical/agnostic" camp on this whole Harper/Machado quest. That's been a surprise.

Just wanted to second the hopes and prayers part. Life is too short. One of our high school classmates (was actually a wrestling coach and actively involved in training his son) from all the way back in 1988 just had a heart attack and died at work, and he wasn't even 50 years old yet. Sometimes, a little perspective is needed. Or a lot. You look at the daily news, people are shooting service dogs for fun, everyone is offended now by practically anything and everything and a Phillies' fan also put his dog in the microwave at the conclusion of that playoff game. Insane people.

Phil Rogers has descended to a point where he's even below Bruce Levine. Maybe he can do another article on Curtis Granderson (or Cliff Floyd, or Jason Kipnis) coming back to Chicago. In actuality, he started to lose most of us when his Baseball America Top 10 lists were so ill-informed...and half of his articles are just spitballing and conjecturing about what teams could/would/should do, things that belong on a Rotisserie league message board. That said, he's always responsive. I think I've e-mailed him different questions or comments at least 3 times in the last 15 years and he's always written back within 24-48 hours, so I give him credit for that. He actually seems like a pretty nice guy.

Well, in that case, you have to include Dan Clark, somehow...he's probably the most "notorious" figure in this whole soap opera, at least so far. Actually, the most amusing moment was waiting last weekend for NotHahn to return from a birthday party for a 1 year old and provide an update...I'm not doubting he knows someone connected to the White Sox, but the odds of someone with real access to the day-to-day negotiations with Boras and Lozano would never in a million years provide any REAL information to someone that could come back to bite the White Sox if it got out. There's nothing for that individual to gain, and potentially LOTS to lose.

Don't forget those times once every couple of weeks where you wake up and courageously attempt to "rally the troops" and convince everyone that the White Sox are somehow going to end up with BOTH players when that would require a commitment of 8-10X what the team has ever handed out before. The last time we saw this level of enthusiasm on the board, it was Balta and the assertion that we were going to destroy/vaporize the rest of baseball by the year 2021 (or, at least the AL Central). And then that lasted precisely until the moment Michael Kopech went down, or maybe it didn't even make it that far.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Except he’s averaged a 2.1 fWAR for all of his big league seasons outside of one outlier where he actually stayed healthy. I guess that’s still theoretically worth $42-54 million for 3 years on the open market, but his age and injury history might push that down towards the low side unless Harper off the market creates a burst of demand side pressure from everyone left trying to compete. Wouldnt be that far off the Melky Cabrera or Robertson deals.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Depends on how long the deals for Kimbrel and Keuchel are...one can’t imagine 4-5 for either at this point, although crazier things have happened. I guess $100 million for Keuchel for 3-4 years and $45-50 million for Kimbrel for two years wouldn’t be all that shocking. But then how does Harper get $350 if the White Sox drop out after signing Machado? Stupid money theory, again?

Sure, if it’s three years and not 4-5. That would be his age 31-33 seasons.

Jeff Bezos should at least have been able to pull this off with his $160 billion, but no, he goes for a married ex news reporter from a local SoCal station who’s only 5 years younger. Now he’ll be worth only $80 billion and still no supmodel g/f. That’s ONE thing to admire about the Kushner brothers, I guess.

Kyler Murray to NFL?
After sitting in his transfer year from A&M and then for most of the two years behind Mayfield, he needs the football reps as much if he’s going to go that route.

Open Letter To Rick Hahn
Something tells me if he put up those numbers with Birmingham (especially the lack of errors) at age 19 there wouldn’t be much of an issue.

Madrigal named to MLB Pipeline All Defense team
Second base: Nick Madrigal, White Sox The No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 Draft was known as the most advanced hitter in the class, but he can also flat-out play second base. He actually has the hands and actions for shortstop, and he could see some time there, though it's unclear if his arm will play from that spot. He could be a Gold Glove-caliber defender on the right side of the infield. Madrigal gets crazy out https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/white-sox-in-running-to-land-manny-machado/c-302716226 Have to scroll down a bit to find the write up.
