Yeah, you could easily break it down with “% of those called strike 3 on other hitters” and make a relatively simple comparison. There’s probably 15 of those 40 that were egregiously bad calls that no major league hitter should swing at...or could hit successfully (of course, fouling off more pitcher’s pitches is yet another area of improvement.) That leaves roughly 25 that were much closer to true borderline pitches. There’s just no way someone like Aaron Judge has gotten jobbed on so many called strike 3’s that are 5-7 inches outside the zone at Yankee Stadium...the White Sox, as a tanking team, have gotten the worst end of calls seemingly all year long, and Renteria hasn’t done much to defend his players, either.

2018 Republicans thread
If Trump could have sustained the boom economy (we’ll throw out the fact that wages still aren’t rising for the middle class) for one more year, he would have had a great shot. As it stands now, it should dissipate around the end of next year. Suburban women and Millennials will be even more telling than African American turnout.

Here you go, right along with Kipnis...exactly in the middle of the pack for MLB 2B https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=2b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2018&month=0&season1=2018&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 Of course, the problem is that it has been all downhill since April 23 when he was already around 1.8! Are people really saying they’d STILL prefer Moncada at 1.1 compared to a 3-4 fWAR and picking 4th-6th instead???

2018 Democrats thread
https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2018-08-13/china-needs-to-understand-trump-s-not-alone Here we have the quintessential centrist Democrat saying we have to do something about China...and the Sanders wing has been saying the same thing for year now. So Reddy, what is the current Dem strategy against Trump vis a vis tariffs and trade? Just to undo everything Trump has put in place and let things return to their “natural order”? I’m starting to see this 2020 election in a different way...Trump isn’t smart enough to work together WITH Japan, South Korea, Vietnam (needs US protection in South China Sea), Germany, India (will tend to US side, also resistant to Chinese Belt & Road Initiative), Netherlands, UK, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, Malaysia, etc. The current policy is weakening the RMB and strengthening the dollar, which is only going to widen the trade deficit or gap. On the other hand, there’s increasing pressure on Chinese leadership to back down (fwiw, the local stock market has been hammered since the fall of 2015, there’s also a huge debt overhang/shadow banking defaults galore)...just as there’s mounting political pressure on Trump due to the November elections and the specific targeting of the Trump voting states for Chinese import tariffs. I just think it’s curious the Dems themselves don’t have a coherent plan of their own in terms of confronting China...because we’re equally split (trade unionists vs. corporatists), too. Unless a better one is presented in two years’ time, Trump will win again.

Midterms 2018
Ellison won his race for MN State AG quite handily. Evers was a bit of a surprise in Wisconsin to take on Walker. OR Muslim-American female candidate Ilhan Omar handily wins in race to replace Ellison.

Acuna Jr. with yet another huge homer, Jesus. He’s going to get some MVP votes if he keeps this up.

We can’t try anyone else from AA or AAA to close? Why not Fry...obviously for just one inning? This is crazy. Tigers’ announcers completely floored we’re trying to get Minaya to close out the game.

That has to be a passed ball and not a wild pitch...

First walk of the game...he will end up with 2-3 more earned runs due to the relievers when the first two plays should have been made and he would have had an easy inning. Luckily Gerber might be the worst hitter in MLB...

Abreu has to make that play...same with SANCHEZ. Hard to accurately judge these pitchers with so many mistakes behind them on a consistent basis.

He has to put things together for at least a half season before we can declare anything resembling a win...so let’s see where Giolito’s velocity is to start next season. Then we’ll know the mechanical changes are taking.

Lopez might be better suited as a closer...but he will get at least one more year starting. Covey to the bullpen as well, obviously.

Acuna, Jr., pretty good...7 homers in his last 30 at bats.

Sox @ Tigers 8/14 6:10 PM CT WGN
Giolito last 6+ starts 40 ip, 32 hits, 21 ER, 17 walks, 35 strikeouts, 4.73 era Guess we can live with two back end starters for Eaton, and cross our fingers on Dunning’s health/recovery.

We managed to put Bauer on the DL. Gio follows up one of his best curves of the year with a garbage pitch...hope his family has a job for him lined up in Hollywood.

Typical Giolito inning. 30+ pitches. Two nice strikeouts. Flashes some really good stuff (recently) but no consistency from batter to batter. Can’t get that final out in the inning. Hit batters, wild pitches, complete inability to hold runners successfully.

2018 Democrats thread
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/political-parties-rejecting-capitalism-145632855.html Both political parties are rejecting capitalism In summation, the Republicans have pulled the country to the right over the last 40 years, and that’s not working well for approximately 55-65% of Americans. The progressive/socialist side is merely taking the extreme position it is in order to restore the balance. By being so extreme, it will eventually allow moderates/centrists to get something done...but it also keeps those centrists honest, or from becoming too complacent (see Crowley, Feinstein or even Blum’s attitude, the guy running against Reddy). If the country has shifted 10-15 degrees to the right, the natural balance should be restored in order for America to reach its full potential. While it’s extremely difficult for any candidate to succeed without a traditional party’s support, the Democratic Party desperately needs to convert that enthusiasm among young people for actual votes when their progressive “first choices” are eliminated. It can’t just merely rely on suburban moms and African American voters (see 2016.) They have to fight for every vote...the elderly, independents, Hispanics, Asians, farmers, former union members turned GOP, etc.

Remember when KW said adding Miguel Cabrera was merely going to put the Tigers in a position to compete with the Tigers for first place...those were the days.
