Getz: "We are... building from the ground, up"
FV doesn't necessarily correspond exactly with fWAR...catchers usually don't amass massive numbers since many only get 100 games.

Thorpe is TBD for spring training??
Scholtens to the rotation...

Getz: "We are... building from the ground, up"
Well, when we don't have any position prospects that project at 2 fWAR or higher right now...maybe we do need 3-5 potential guys at every position like we currently have for 3B and 2B. There's depth...and then there's quality depth, so that remains to be seen with a very fluid in field situation. At any rate, we shall see what they end up doing with Quero. Unfortunately the White Sox usually work from the "outside in"... rather than taking SS and CFers and allocating them across the diamond to the corners. We take 1B DH 3B (Burger/Ramos)...and try to put them in the outfield (or at 2B), like Vaughn/Sheets as well. And now trying to make a SS in Meidroth out of a 2B/3B.

Rubenstein of O's pushes for salary cap
The average MLB fan age has trended downward to 43. Attendance/revenue/ratings (hello Yankees Dodgers) are up across the board. Meanwhile NBA and men's college BB trending in the opposite direction...down 12-28% across various platforms.

Getz: "We are... building from the ground, up"
Well at least we have cornered the market on LHSP and catching...so there's that. Not sure how Quero fits now/exactly. He might be good enough to DH or play first...for the Sox. Just not sure about a legit playoff contender. Maybe he's worth more to another organization seeking a catcher. With Teel now being ahead of Salas at Pipeline...he definitely won't be the one traded as Getz is getting a lot on him and Braden being meaningful contributors.

Colavito, too...

Getz: "We are... building from the ground, up"
You realize he has been one of the most loyal season ticket holders and game attendees around until recently???...this is not the "dunking on" you think it is, when a lot of die hards in their 40s 50s and 60 and their children have given up entirely on this franchise. It's just sad it has come to this, actually.

Soxfest back for 2025
"Getz said, lauding the effort of selling the White Sox as a happy landing spot for veterans seeking bounce-back years. “Because Will (Venable) demonstrates it, others do in the organization: We’re very honest, honest about where we currently are and where we want to go. We might find something we feel we can improve.” None of this honesty was present last year. Guess that was Grifol's fault now, or Dayton Moore on overselling his positive attributes to the Sox...

Which White Sox hitter (after Robert) will be MLB Top 15 fWAR?
Robert is too easy... The more interesting question is who...if anyone...should be ranked 2nd?

Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart
Would have been an interesting dilemma with Iguchi and Takatsu involved...Japanese culture is so much about face and respect. But RedSox have had guys like Dice K Yoshida + relievers...Mets with Senga. No interview. Yankees Hideki Matsui Chien Ming Wang and Tanaka. Really seemed heavily influenced by what former Blue Jay Kikuchi said about Toronto...but no really big FA has committed to Toronto as of yet.

Rubenstein of O's pushes for salary cap
https://forum.orioleshangout.com/topic/56213-david-rubenstein-talks-baseball-at-the-world-economic-forum/ Already way ahead of us on this discussion…consensus is floor without cap does nothing, and wouldn’t be approved any more than a cap without a floor. “Big 12” teams don’t want more revenue sharing for obvious reasons…dilution of franchise value. NFL Parity discussion…Chiefs Pats vs. Astros Dodgers. Small market teams almost have no chance to win it all…Marlins one of few counterexamples. NFL success so driven by just one position now, QB. Biggest issue is bottom half teams simply feeder teams for “Big 12”…see White Sox the last 2-3 seasons, but specifically the Crochet deal. Teams with top farm systems just won’t give up Top 30ish and below of the Top 100 players anymore via trade. Chiefs are small market team, or Packers, but equivalent of Dodgers or Yankees as NFL franchises…could never happen in MLB due to disparity caused by local broadcasting rights deals.

Sure, but JR would absolutely love a cap/ceiling, just not a floor.

Right…team/organizational mentality, whatever you want to call it.

Which White Sox hitter (after Robert) will be MLB Top 15 fWAR?
He wasn't close last year...in the 30s. Steamer projected a number of Sox hitters near 2 fwiw. Easy to be skeptical on guys like Sosa Baldwin and Meidroth though.

Rubenstein of O's pushes for salary cap
https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/baltimore-orioles-owner-wants-a-salary-cap-in-mlb-says-the-business-community-is-hopeful-under-trump-180642112.html Battle lines being drawn for two years from now. Orioles in the middle, but sympathize more with medium and small markets. That leaves just both NY teams, LAA, LAD, SFG, Boston Red Sox, Phillies, Rangers, Astros, Cubs, Braves, Blue Jays as the obvious twelve big market teams. Eighteen teams on the "other side of the tracks." Seattle Minnesota SD St.Louis Colorado AZ all have closer natural ties to the bottom, but AZ has signed both Bumgarner and now Corbin Burnes. Nationals probably fit here as well based on past history/spending through 2019. Colorado has strong and faithful fanbase despite inept directionless ownership. That leaves another 11 on the bottom rung... Milwaukee, TB, Marlins, Pirates, Reds, LV A's, White Sox, Orioles, Guardians, Tigers, Royals. 4/5ths of the AL Central and 3/5ths of the NL...so essentially the majority of imbalance spread across Midwest/Rust Belt.

Getz feels White Sox are headed in the right direction
There's no in-crowd lol. It's basically WestEddy Tray and then Cali in the middle playing Devil's Advocate. Not much of a crowd, really. Some mods have shifted from criticizing fanbase, but that's no longer a tenable position in reality...as interest in the team continues to nosedive.
