Paul Janish Hired as Director of Player Development
caulfield12 replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Will have to constantly refer to the Royals and Braves, for one thing. And pretend he leveraged Rice players into future stardom. The funny thing is that NCAA salaries are blowing MLB out of the water in recent years. Then you have JR’s reputation for underpaying (lone exceptions TLR and Cooper) coaching and front office staff. Must have been the powerful title that was roughly 75% of the enticement. -
Greg...news bulletin: the pronounced shift defensive alignment is out.

Texas Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, who struggled with his fielding last season, has made a remarkable transformation and is now a finalist for the Gold Glove award. Lowe, who won the Silver Slugger award last season, spent the offseason and spring training working on his defense and has impressed with his improved glove work this season. He credits his success to his hard work, as well as the influence of slick-fielding shortstop Francisco Lindor and the guidance of Rangers coaches Tony Beasley and Corey Ragsdale. Lowe’s impressive turnaround is a testament to his determination and dedication to the game. https://bvmsports.com/2023/10/19/texas-rangers-nathaniel-lowe-goes-from-worst-fielding-1b-to-a-gold-glove-finalist/ Tony Beasley was brought over from the Pirates' organization by Jeff Banister originally when he managed the Rangers. Know these guys well from time in Augusta in 1990s and they are both really hard workers and personally self - disciplined with leadership qualities galore.

Once again, it's not accidental they have GG candidates at five positions...Lowe at 1B going from worst in OOA in 2022 to something like second over in 2023.

Paul Janish Hired as Director of Player Development
caulfield12 replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Janish probably intersects with Nick Hostetler and also has connections to Dayton Moore disciples through his time with the Braves. Nick: I have a lot of the Atlanta Braves scouting in me. I learned a lot from Paul Schneider and Roy Clark and I got really close with Dayton Moore of the Royals. Those roots and the foundation are there for me. I have been around a lot impressive people. Hostetler, who has been a scout of many different capacities, has been with the White Sox since 2007 but got his break with the Atlanta Braves when he was in college. Nick embraces the foundation the incredibly successful Braves organization had given him as he takes on a role that is the pinnacle of the scouting career path. https://www.futuresox.net/2015/08/06/exclusive-interview-white-sox-scouting-director-nick-hostetler/ -

Sounds familiar. Abreu and tobacco. Abreu and empty stats.

Or not. Sewald has finally gone from no runs surrendered since the middle of September to this abrupt ending... Marcus Semien of all players with the crushing blow.

Lead should be 6 or 7 to 0. Still feels a bit precarious after what happened 12 years ago.

White Sox familial influence on Alek Thomas defense, lol...

Rangers leaving way too many runners on the base paths these last two innings.

RIP Coach Robert Montgomery Knight

There are clearly two Bobby Knights, and you're completely overlooking the monstrous version... If he would have retired after his third championship, his legacy would have been completely different than where it sits today. -

Key point of G5 after no hitter lost... D backs behind the 8 ball now. Lineup just not producing enough offense.

You're forgetting the key point that BALLY SPORTS/SINCLAIR's business operations put the Padres in this position. If they had simply honored their contracts to around 15 clubs, this situation wouldn't have arisen. It's interesting to note that this amount ($50 million) is relatively in the same neighborhood of the amount SD was supposed to receive from their RSN deal with Bally for carriage rights. I guess the lesson in the end is never to aspire to build a championship team if you're a small market club, that everyone should simply copy the White Sox business model of never overextending yourself for the fans, lol. In fact, because of this, they probably will trade Juan Soto to the Cubs because they're certainly not going to be able to afford his extension with Machado, Bogaerts, Tatis, Musgrove, Darvish, etc., still on the payroll. Best not to aspire to greatness at all IMO.
-
Just please make the team more entertaining and compelling to watch. Such a low bat to clear. Other than Robert and Burger at bats, it was one of the most boring Sox teams ever, even compared to most of the rebuild years. If that Astros catcher Lee gets 300+ at bats and is still hitting 125-150ish...

Just like Alyssa with the Giants might be a fine major league manager one day, but the comfort level with a veteran guy like Bochy or Melvin is almost always going to trump taking a bigger risk with a female. We're overcorrecting for Ng, and undervaluing those who have no track record (yet) at the highest level because they've never had the opportunity to prove they can't get the job done just as well or better, largely because of inherent and long lasting biases prevalent within the industry. Same reason 90%+ of new age GMs have quite similarly elite academic backgrounds, for example.

We already named 15-20 the last couple of years...most 2nd or 3rd in command guys at the best or so called most successful organizations. And there are some who consider Michigan to be that very next educational tier below NW, Chicago, Carnegie Mellon and ND. Just not an Ivy Stanford Cal Tech Duke level of elitism as a public university, etc.

2023-24 NFL Season Thread

The Commanders also had told Young they would reward him if he had a productive season. The high-priced line did not result in productive play by the defense. Washington does rank tied for sixth in the league with 25 sacks, but the Commanders rank 23rd in pass rush win rate. Among defensive linemen, Young ranks fifth in this area -- but none of his linemates are in the top 55. Washington drafted Sweat with the 26th pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft, a pick obtained when the team traded back into the first round. Sweat was an immediate full-time starter and has been productive (and durable), though he has yet to finish with more than nine sacks in a season. Sweat is one of seven players with at least five sacks in each of the past five seasons (since 2019), along with Chris Jones, Myles Garrett, T.J. Watt, Khalil Mack, Maxx Crosby and Brian Burns, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. -

The news of the trades comes hours after sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that the Bears granted cornerback Jaylon Johnson permission to seek a trade. Johnson, 24, is in the final year of his rookie contract and said he is looking for "respect and security" in the form of a new deal. The trade injects talent into Chicago's league-worst pass rush at the halfway point of the season. The Bears (2-6) replaced three of their four starters along the defensive line ahead of the 2023 season in free agency and spent second- and third-round draft picks on defensive tackles Gervon Dexter Sr. and Zacch Pickens. The Bears have an NFL-low 10 sacks this season and 46 pressures, which ranks 30th. Through eight games, Sweat has 6.5 sacks, bringing his career total to 35.5 over five seasons. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38786847/sources-bears-trading-commanders-montez-sweat -

Kmet got a handsome deal...probably for far more than fair value.
