  1. That was done primarily to send a message to the rest of the league why signing free agents like that is such a bad idea, lol...it worked out with the Sox, but the Orioles were set back for two decades with guys like Belle and Chris Davis.
  2. Abreu Avi Viciedo Semien Bassitt Sale Q Eaton Reed might argue otherwise. Even Adam Dunn had a pretty decent 2012.
  3. I hope those actually believing Keller was a key piece and would possibly end up with a 3-4 fWAR might number one hand's worth of fingers or less at SoxTalk.
  4. Honestly would let him experience more prolonged success in High A and wait to move him until the Carolina League All-Star game in mid-July. A+ to AA always used to be the highest jump of all, especially with how big some of the Southern League stadiums play.
  5. For the first time since 2008 Birmingham...they actually seem to care about "winning" a Southern League championship and bonding together and also placing as many player as possible on the All-Star Team as well in June. This was the exact strategy that the Royals utilized with their Wilmington, Wichita and Omaha teams leading into the 2012-13 seasons...promoting teams together as basically "core" units.
  6. The Sox have been "unlucky" with injuries for going on 3+ years now. At some point, it goes beyond the training/medical staff and into the psychological with some of these situations. And you're never going to see any team in MLB history in last place (overall) at nearly the 1/3rd pole of the season described as "proactive" vs. reactive. They are being reactive simply because the measures they'd adopted to "hold down the fort" during the first half of the season (while buying time for the youngsters) simply weren't good enough.
  7. He started off very well last year before collapsing...his reality is somewhere between abysmal AAA numbers and better than expected MLB stats. The problem is that he doesn't possess a single plus skill in his toolbag. Bunting, maybe. But best case scenario is always going to be the last guy on the active roster, PR/PH, defensive replacement. We need to worry much much more about CORE pieces at this point.
  8. Well, the whole argument is going to be AAA vs. Chicago...which benefits him more after the AA All-Star Break? Secondly, he's arguably the first member of the future Sox rotation, so why not wait until May, 2025? Now if they could work out something with Crochet in terms of an extension, you can start to squint at that future rotation adding Schultz there as well. It's hard to write names like Cannon, Nastrini and Iriarte in anything but very thin pencil.
  9. Up to 96.9 MPH. That's the unique selling point I guess for moving him back into the rotation now...might last 2-3 starts.
  10. https://www.milb.com/player/jared-shuster-694363 He pitched just 79 innings last year at AAA...it would probably take him 3-4 weeks just to get to the point where he could throw 3 and then eventually 4 innings as a starter. With how well he's been doing out of the pen, probably better not to mess with it. That said, bringing up Thorpe to get massacred or start his service clock is just a terrible idea...but especially against an offense like the Orioles.
  11. “Uneventful day,” said Grifol after praising Yankees starter Luis Gil and New York’s home run power. “We just got our ass kicked.”
  12. “Love, Actually”
  13. Mets have promised to be patient and rebuild the right way with youth under Stearns. They're also likely to lose Alonso to FA and Lindor has been a massive disappointment and lastly Atl/Philly the better teams by far. Look at Hader for another example of a closer who looked close to untouchable and where he's at now. Have max out those guys like Clase and Duran as youngsters...$100+ million contracts for vets almost never work out in this day and age.
  14. Veras has little value because he doesn't play a premium position...he simply has to hit everywhere he goes. Not unlike Burger...but at least there's something of a track record there now. Still impossible to write him off when he's had that oblique injury affecting his hit tool.
  15. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40145890/mlb-load-management-next-big-thing-rock-baseball
  16. Sounds too much like Stiever lol.
  17. The test for every Sox pitcher is always going to be Charlotte and Chicago in the summer months...just as Charlotte offensive numbers can be suspect, you have the opposite sppression effect on the pitching side of things.
  18. And then? It has happened twice since the late 90s and neither led to a WS. It was F.Garcia/Contreras and hitting on all those largely castoff anf undervalued FA's leading into 2005...utilizing all the savings from Ordonez Lee Valentin and spreading it out efficiently. Not sure if any Sox fans are willing to suspended disbelief about FA spending again after watching Wheeler Machado and Harper each get away.
  19. Thorpe and Ramos are going to get force fed into the big leagues... Still, inexplicably, have Sheets in the OF. That alone is hard to understand.
  20. 49-113 pace right now. Feels about right. That's before they dump 1/5th or as much as 1/4th of their roster at the deadline.
  21. With Tim Anderson the most rapid descent of any Sox player in decades...he went from DQ spokesperson to soon making Blizzards.
  22. Keller Reign of Terror will be over soon...still don't have many options left to turn to at AA and AAA beyond Thorpe and maybe Iriarte.
  23. Elder "care" spokesperson seems even worse than even used cars...
  24. According to officials, the race brought in more than $8.3 million in state and local tax revenues in 2023, with 52% of attendees visiting from out-of-state for the event. The broadcast was NBC's most-watched NASCAR race since 2017, and the most-streamed race in NBC's history.
