And those indicators were already present as White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, sitting at his locker Tuesday rather than standing on the knee he sprained the day before, slid back in his chair and quietly said, “That’s enough.” He’s given this interview before and thought he had taken steps to avoid giving it again. “It’s so frustrating,” Anderson said. “I tried to prevent it. You can’t control it. You can’t control injury. But it definitely sucks because I know that I was doing everything I could. Everybody in the organization knows I was doing everything I could to try to stay healthy, and it just didn’t work out that way.” “It’s frustrating because people came to camp feeling good and as a team too,” said third baseman Yoán Moncada on Tuesday, switching between using a team interpreter and speaking English while discussing his recurring lower back soreness. “Not even a week into the season and we are having all these injuries. That’s the frustrating part. That we are not able to contribute to the team. Sometimes there are things you can’t control."

Only five in the starting lineup we probably wouldn’t have predicted three months ago, six if you count Grandal at DH. Definitely not very trusting with Burger defense at third considering how bad Alberto has been… Luis Robert tied with Arraez and Outman for third overall in MLB fWAR. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2023&month=0&season1=2023&ind=0 -

Moncada actually dealing with a back issue.

Improvement! Two years ago, 28th through 30th across all respected rating systems. Even saw one #18 for this year, God know who that was…someone that especially loved Montgomery, Schulz and Colas. -
https://www.mlb.com/news/white-sox-battling-injuries-early-in-season “It’s so frustrating,” Anderson said. “You do everything right to try to prevent creating injury and [this was] just something I couldn’t control. I just have to roll with it. “Just a weird situation. I tried to prevent it. You can’t control injury. But it definitely sucks because I know that I was doing everything I could. Everybody in the organization knows I was doing everything I could to try to stay healthy, and it just didn’t work out that way.” ….. “Guys here are going to step up in absence of guys that are not in the lineup and help us win baseball games,” manager Pedro Grifol said. “That’s what depth does. This is where opportunity meets preparation, right? So if you prepared in the offseason, you’ve prepared in Spring Training, here’s your opportunity. Go get it.” “We want our guys in the lineup, and it’s tough,” Burger said. “Last year and this year, you can’t look at last year and say, 'Oh, it’s going to be that way again.' Injuries happen in baseball, and you see every team with guys going on the IL.”

https://ballparkdigest.com/2023/03/29/2023-spring-training-attendance-by-average/ Dodgers with more than double the average of Sox games...not surprisingly coming off last season (granted both ended with different levels of disappointment, relatively). Cubs, Angels, Dodgers, DBacks (home turf, almost) and Giants (Cal proximity) make up the Top 5 Yankees and Red Sox 6th and 7th, Rockies 8th, Phillies coming off WS 9th, Mariners 10th

Meanwhile the M's are now 4-8...but it's still a big improvement (so far) from last year. -
2013-2016 That era at least had the 2000, 2003 and 2005 teams that were VERY entertaining for fans. Plus, you had the culmination of all the drafts and trades producing the #1 farm system in MLB heading into 2000. Ironically, other than Buehrle/Crede/Rowand, most of the 2005 team came from outside moves...but it certainly wasn't that 2000 group of top prospects headlined by Rauch, Wright, Wells and Borchard.
-
Alberto and Grifol go too far back. And he basically was the main offensive contributor last game. And they know Burger can't play 3B...and Romy's not long for the big leagues. Which pushes you all the way down to Remillard/Rodriguez/Ramos. This is a time where they definitely could have used Danny Mendick.
-
Colas at-bats alone aren't enough to sustain fan interest... or even the joy of watching Robert. (We're basically the Angels minus two true superstars and a massively disappointing Rendon signing.) Grifol alone didn't move the meter very much either... but the game from here on out will be protecting Hahn and Boyer on the marketing side from criticism. A neat trick if you can pull it off.

Meeting with Manfred about reception/reviews of his recently-published book?

At least it wasn't Gore and Dyson? Those were automatic Royals' wins with those historic bullpens.

Lol... kiss of death to bring this thread up again in the coming days. But he did look like the most serviceable after Reynaldo. -
Soft Serve Core. Except Robert Jr. Knock on wood.
-
On MLB Gameday it blamed it on him lol. Not watching live.
-
Scholtens doesn't belong on a big league roster. Shades of Clayton Richard.
-
Zach Remillard still has a lot of potential. Haha. Maybe we need to drag some more ex Royals middle infielders out of retirement.
