How do you rate the rebuild so far?
The Astros and White Sox couldn't be more opposites in terms of results/accountability. The great thing about our rebuild is that we didn't have to just all-out suck AND have no real assets to watch develop like the Astros did for awhile. We're pretty lucky.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
What was Cameron's prospect ranking? Both those guys were high profile ... but especially Konerko and then Cameron was hyped as a five tool outfielder. Could Burger even get a Top 75-100 guy? As a potentially 30-35 home running hitting 2B?

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Freddy Garcia signed a big extension and then Jose Contreras got it a decent sized contract as a reward for 2005-2006.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Visibly getting upset with Robert and Benintendi falling/slipping last night in the outfield and basically showing his teammates up was par for the course while sporting a 6+ ERA. Addition by subtraction. Same with Moncada Grandal and Anderson.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Lost Wheeler...nobody forced him to sign Keuchel. Or to overpay Lynn when he wasn't in the best shape physically and there would have been much better ways to allocate those dollars but Hahn just had to double own on the Dunning trade by signing another extension. Benintendi didn't come close to moving any type of needle and now they're tied to four more years of financial commitments when they could have gone with shorter term Conforto or Bellinger types instead.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Look at what happened to the Guardians getting cute and holding on to Bieber for too long...they now might have to try to trade Civale instead to dig up enough offense to get over the finish line.

Appreciating Guardians starting pitching and how they managed to get to .500
7) Aaron Civale, RHP, Guardians Contract status: controllable through 2025 With Shane Bieber on the injured list, the Guardians could pivot and make Civale available as they pursue offensive help. The 28-year-old righty has recorded a 2.54 ERA and 3.61 FIP on the season, and as a bonus, he comes with two-plus years of team control. Trade likelihood: Medium mlb.com

And Flowers another that developed away from Chicago.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Do you really want him making 75% of Benintendi's salary but believing he's twice the player?

Fire Rick Hahn
Certainly a reference to AL Central and WS titles with this newly inspired direction.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Well, we temporarily have Lynn for Dunning lol. That's worked out quite well for Dane and the first place Rangers this year.

His Spanish pronunciation wasn't quite there...

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Hahn has his AL Executive of the Year/offseason championship mojo back again!!!

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Harold claimed there was a rearrangement in the front office and Hahn had already been banished to the basement...instead of waiting for the parade, it will be wait for the book to come out.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Giolito was as good as gone after he became union rep and then the $50000 arbitration fight. Divorce was probably the third issue, wanting to be closer to home and family. Wouldn't be a shocker at all to see him staying out there ala Jon Garland.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Hopefully the MLB playoff rosters are filled with ex Sox players to keep the focus on Rick Hahn while he’s out on the golf course and/or giving advice to Brian Anderson at NW.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Better yet, they did it to cover for the embarrassment of the Crosstown Cup, like it didn’t even happen. Otherwise, Hahn was going to have to stay hidden away forever under house arrest like the Chinese foreign minister. So now the media can go back to Bellinger’s extension/trade and Stroman’s ERA after he got that blister in London and has recorded something like an 8+ ERA over his last six starts or so.

The Guardians Twins Marlins Brewers TB AZ Reds…not quite sure any of them are what one would describe as desperate, though. Ohtani situation is so uniquely Arte Moreno. There’s actually a reasonable amount of calm around the Yankees.

Fire Rick Hahn
Hahn can at least write a book and do MLB seminars on different ways to fail at rebuilding…you would think he would have learned something from all this failure. Undoubtedly TLR will get the lion’s share of the blame. And injuries. And Hostetler. Certainly no honest reflection on any of his mistakes, other than Shields/Tatis.

Hahn's comments...
Who gets to be new pitching coach with Katz probably returning to the West Coast…? One good thing out of all this is that at LEAST finally realized Seby and Perez were not the future at catcher.
-
Fire Rick Hahn
Oppenheimer award winner with that level of precise insight...and critical thinking. If only we could have gotten his best buddy Eduardo Perez...but he would never leave ESPN for this burning pile of garbage.

Appreciating Guardians starting pitching and how they managed to get to .500
Unfortunately the Cubs were smart enough to notice Carter Hawkins first and brought him over to Wrigleyville in an attempt to emulate his Indians/Guardians success... Cliff Lee, CF Sabathia, Corey Kluber and finally Shane Bieber. Those are the headliners fans remember for winning Cy Young's. https://sportsnaut.com/cleveland-guardians-keep-producing-cy-young-winners/ That doesn’t count Trevor Bauer, who was acquired as a minor-leaguer from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a three-team trade in 2012, debuted with Cleveland in 2013 and won a Cy Young with the Cincinnati Reds in 2020. Or Bartolo Colon, an original Cleveland signee and workhorse ace for the team before winning a Cy Young in 2005 with the Angels. Or Tim Lincecum, the San Francisco Giants’ two-time Cy Young winner, who was drafted by Cleveland in 2005 but did not sign, eventually drafted and signed the next year by the Giants. Or Clevinger...haha.

When Syndergaard/Thor starts for them, which could come as early as Game 2 or Friday (assuming they're skipping a final rehab start he was supposed to make for the Dodgers), they will be on their 14TH starting pitcher of the season. FOURTEEN. Imagine if the White Sox had to go their 14th starter in 2023...what that record would be at this point. They would definitely be challenging the A's and Royals for the very worst record in baseball, if not below them. The only starting pitchers (off the top of my head) that the White Sox have drafted and developed to the big leagues in the last decade plus are Chris Sale, Chris Bassitt (Round 16, pick 501), Hector Santiago (Round 30, pick 915), Daniel Hudson and Brandon McCarthy. When you look at the Sox future rotations, we're basically going to start off 2024 with two guys, assuming Clevinger is jettisoned. And a good amount of SoxTalk posters have little to no faith or confidence in Michael Kopech at this point for a long list of reasons we don't really need to delve into here. From ascending to descending order of 2023 starts IL Bieber 4th Round-Pick 122 overall Tanner Bibee 5-156 Logan T. Allen 2-56 IL Cal Quantrill 1-8 (acquired from Padres as part of five player Clevinger deal, along with Josh Naylor) Civale 3-92 H. Gaddis 5-160 IL Battenfield (originally drafted by HOU at 9-286) Gavin Williams 1-23 (#1 prospect) Plesac (released, but still eligible for 2024 Sox rotation) 12-362 Xzavion Curry 7-220 IL Triston McKenzie Comp Bal Round, Pick 42 Toukki Toussaint 1-16 (with White Sox as we all know) Thor/Noah Syndergaard Compensation Round A, Pick 38, draft pick by the Blue Jays originally Starter #15 would have been their #3 prospect in Daniel Espino who's been injured for much of this season, hence the trade of Amed Rosario to plug in the gap for Bieber Just for good measure, we can throw in former starter/now reliever Eli "Captain" Morgan at Round 8, pick 252. So, instead of worrying about dumping Hahn for Mike Chernoff or Antonetti, we should be picking off all their scouts who scouted and selected these guys, especially since the departures of Giolito and likely Cease (this year or next) would tell you how highly unlikely it is we see JR authorize a $100+ million pitching contract while he's still running the club. Which means, quite simply, you have to get them from the draft or international signings.

A lot suggested Eloy would be a good MIL fit for Wiemer but that might be a no go for Hahn...
