  2. Key point of G5 after no hitter lost... D backs behind the 8 ball now. Lineup just not producing enough offense.
  3. You're forgetting the key point that BALLY SPORTS/SINCLAIR's business operations put the Padres in this position. If they had simply honored their contracts to around 15 clubs, this situation wouldn't have arisen. It's interesting to note that this amount ($50 million) is relatively in the same neighborhood of the amount SD was supposed to receive from their RSN deal with Bally for carriage rights. I guess the lesson in the end is never to aspire to build a championship team if you're a small market club, that everyone should simply copy the White Sox business model of never overextending yourself for the fans, lol. In fact, because of this, they probably will trade Juan Soto to the Cubs because they're certainly not going to be able to afford his extension with Machado, Bogaerts, Tatis, Musgrove, Darvish, etc., still on the payroll. Best not to aspire to greatness at all IMO.
  4. Just please make the team more entertaining and compelling to watch. Such a low bat to clear. Other than Robert and Burger at bats, it was one of the most boring Sox teams ever, even compared to most of the rebuild years. If that Astros catcher Lee gets 300+ at bats and is still hitting 125-150ish...
  5. Just like Alyssa with the Giants might be a fine major league manager one day, but the comfort level with a veteran guy like Bochy or Melvin is almost always going to trump taking a bigger risk with a female. We're overcorrecting for Ng, and undervaluing those who have no track record (yet) at the highest level because they've never had the opportunity to prove they can't get the job done just as well or better, largely because of inherent and long lasting biases prevalent within the industry. Same reason 90%+ of new age GMs have quite similarly elite academic backgrounds, for example.
  6. We already named 15-20 the last couple of years...most 2nd or 3rd in command guys at the best or so called most successful organizations. And there are some who consider Michigan to be that very next educational tier below NW, Chicago, Carnegie Mellon and ND. Just not an Ivy Stanford Cal Tech Duke level of elitism as a public university, etc.

  9. The Commanders also had told Young they would reward him if he had a productive season. The high-priced line did not result in productive play by the defense. Washington does rank tied for sixth in the league with 25 sacks, but the Commanders rank 23rd in pass rush win rate. Among defensive linemen, Young ranks fifth in this area -- but none of his linemates are in the top 55. Washington drafted Sweat with the 26th pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft, a pick obtained when the team traded back into the first round. Sweat was an immediate full-time starter and has been productive (and durable), though he has yet to finish with more than nine sacks in a season. Sweat is one of seven players with at least five sacks in each of the past five seasons (since 2019), along with Chris Jones, Myles Garrett, T.J. Watt, Khalil Mack, Maxx Crosby and Brian Burns, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.
  10. The news of the trades comes hours after sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that the Bears granted cornerback Jaylon Johnson permission to seek a trade. Johnson, 24, is in the final year of his rookie contract and said he is looking for "respect and security" in the form of a new deal. The trade injects talent into Chicago's league-worst pass rush at the halfway point of the season. The Bears (2-6) replaced three of their four starters along the defensive line ahead of the 2023 season in free agency and spent second- and third-round draft picks on defensive tackles Gervon Dexter Sr. and Zacch Pickens. The Bears have an NFL-low 10 sacks this season and 46 pressures, which ranks 30th. Through eight games, Sweat has 6.5 sacks, bringing his career total to 35.5 over five seasons. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38786847/sources-bears-trading-commanders-montez-sweat
  11. Kmet got a handsome deal...probably for far more than fair value.
  12. Shocked that happened with losses of McNamara All Lachey...but Deacon Hill performances causing most faithful fans to rethink their appetite for another five to ten years of Ferentz ball with PAC 10 teams arriving on the scene soon to wipe out Big 10 West.
  13. Yes, the infamous Sox "fast track" with Sale Burdi Crochet...and going all the way back to the likes of Beckham and Thomas/Ventura/McDowell/Alex Fernandez. Of course partly due to depth issues or the unwillingness to cover those spots with FAs as "bridge" players...or we get the likes of Eaton 2, Mazara, Parrot and Friends & Family on those occasions we do attempt to plug existing roster gaps. Then the attempts to take "major league ready/limited upside guys" like Broadway but especially the two Walkers/K.McCulloch/Poreda/Ring.
  14. Unless the intention was to save JR money (at that time on Shields' contract), then it worked out perfectly. They also would never have extended Tatis, Jr., anyway, just like Luis Robert will be out the door after the 2027 season (likely sooner based on his current trade value.)
  15. https://www.mlb.com/news/featured/world-series-nicole-hazen-mike-hazen-love-story Heartbreaking story. Makes it hard not to pull for AZ, Hazen and Merrill Kelly as well. My remaining cousins on father's side all live in Plano area, so that's the main pull there...suffering through 2010 and especially 2011 against the Cards.
  16. The problem is that you really have to work hard to convince yourself he’s going to make it as a starter. It’s not Crochet daunting, but if Garrett has 5-10% odds to make the 2025 rotation, Eder is still well less than 50/50 to throw 150-160 mlb innings in 2025. And thats going to take everything going perfectly in 2024 and them not pulling a Crochet/Kopech stashing him in the pen because they refuse to spend anything on the bullpen. If you bet career fWAR from 2024 on, no way smart money is not on the position player side of things. With Jake Burger. It just seems dumb to trade your second best hitter for someone seasons away from being close to established. At least Nick Nastrini is in the 110-120 ip range for both of the last two seasons, for example.
  17. They must have been the only team that projected Fulmer at 96-98 mph, because he consistently threw at 92.5-95 with the White Sox. Walker Buehler, his Vandy teammate, was the one that experienced the massive velocity gain. Of course, now injured but how many high leverage playoff innings did he contribute?
  18. And we have already had a ton of complaints about our recent first rounder Gonzalez lacking athleticism and dynamic tools compared to other middle infield picks in recent years.
  19. Speaking of missed opportunities, we missed out on #2 and #3 guys in AZ to push the at best #4 in AZ all the way up to #2 in Chicago. Haber has basically been disappeared or reassigned since nobody has to a clue what he happens to excel in...other than?some gobbledygook about contract negotiations.
  20. The best comparison is Torkelson and Vaughn. Torkelson went 1-1. In fact, more was arguably expected of him, although both were Golden Spikes winners…just like Gordon Beckham back in the day at UGA. He had 562 at-bats, a full half season more than Vaughn and didn’t even have to go through a challenging position change. Please compare Torkelson and Vaughn second half 2023. https://sports.yahoo.com/world-series-2023-how-the-diamondbacks-were-built-with-challenge-trades-that-dared-to-believe-in-key-stars-such-as-game-1-starter-zac-gallen-172159958.html In the end, the White Sox are going to have to win some of these challenge trades like Hazen did with AZ. It means leveraging Robert, Cease and potentially Montgomery at some point. Because they’re not going anywhere relying on the draft and free agency alone, it has been proven ever since 2006.
  21. Just sign Rosario to a one year plus option "make good" or bounce back deal with Anderson moving to second. Depending on how things go, you can trade one or both at the deadline...although they could do far worse than a value extension to Rosario. If Montgomery's anywhere close to Seager defensively...you have to leave him alone at SS, then you can move Rosario over to second when ready. Rosario...RF...catcher...1-2 starting pitchers and the bullpen is so much heavy lifting though with a limited budget. Should probably just move on from Hendriks but they will undoubtedly do the opposite out of sentimentality.
  22. Lowe with the Rangers went from worst in OAA in 2022 to GG candidate in 2023 at first base. Rangers in fact had five nominees across all nine positions. Coincidence with the arrival of Bochy and a new coaching staff?
  23. Sounds like Joe Borchard... Can cross Gabriel off Heisman list. Oregon the best team as of right now...heck, the bottom half of the PAC 10 would all win the Big Ten West. For instance, AZ the way they're playing now would destroy every team but Michigan and OSU.
  24. Is he better than Madrigal and Vaughn…comparatively?
