  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 15, 2009 -> 11:43 PM) Damn, I remember him as a big time prospect coming out of Memphis State Not to get sidetracked, but I like the use of "State" in italics. Every University of Memphis fan I know would be proud to hear it still referred to as that b/c I know so many people here that still refer to it as "Memphis State." Anyway, I'm really pulling for the Rockets in Game 7. I wouldn't say I hate the Lakers (b/c I do like Kobe), but I just hate that whole team's attitude. Like they're entitled or something b/c their LA. Also rooting for the Magic. Though I'm sure both the Rockets and Magic will lose.
  2. Yikes. Matt Long went really under slot in the 2nd round. I mean, only 2 players in the 3rd round got less than he did, and 1 of those was our pick (Edwards).
  3. 7 out of 10... I can't believe I missed the pitcher not getting charged with an earned run on a Grand Slam question. That was just me being dumb.
  4. If the NBA truly tested randomly for marijuana, there would be quite a few failed drug tests.
  5. Okay, so my boss asked me if I wanted to work Saturday and I said "yes" b/c I need the money, so looks like I'm not going to the Barons game on Saturday night. Oh well...
  6. So in conclusion... f*** you, Pods!
  7. I can't even imagine a salary of $16,000. You can barely live off that. These pilots are highly trained and they're making less than a lot of people without high school degrees. I just think pilots might be a little more important.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 13, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) So the big story of the day is that Obama completely did a 180 and is now NOT going to release all of the torture pics to the public. Interesting. I'm glad he decided to do that. There's really no point in releasing those photos. What's done is done. It's not going to help anything to release the torture pictures.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) I guess I haven't been following LOST as closley as I used to. When was the loop hole stuff brought up, other than tonight. When Jacob said it, I didn't really follow.... As far I remember, they only times it was mentioned was at the beginning when they mentioned it in that opening scene (regarding that random dude saying he wanted to kill Jacob... he needed to find a loophole to do so), and then again at the end.

    OMFG! OMFG!

So? I'm ranked 113th for most total posts. Can you deal with that?
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:10 PM) Skip Bayless is a piece of s***. Yep, he ranks right there with Mariotti in my book.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) With today being my last day of High School, I plan on doing a lot of reports in the upcoming weekend. I think I'll focus on some of the prep catchers, corner infielders, and pitchers. Sounds good. Looking forward to those... And congrats on being done with HS! What are your plans for next year?
  13. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:12 PM) <!--quoteo(post=1892638:date=May 13, 2009 -> 09:08 PM:name=kyyle23)-->QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) <!--quotec-->the chat crew posts on this thread are awesome Kyyle just after he got the call that he was a mod. Too funny...
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 13, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Ex-Bull Corie Blount sentenced to year in prison for marijuana, gotta love the judges response to his claim that it was all for personal use. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4163416 McKendry had a bit of trouble getting this story out on Sportscenter today. I do think it's pretty funny that of all the people to be caught with weed, it's a guy with the last name pronounced "blunt." Pretty ironic.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) The other thing that Clearing Hinrich's 2010 salary does is it would still likely leave us $7.5 million or so under the 2010 cap even after signing someone like Bosh (depending of course on the exact numbers, could go down if the cap really screams downwards)...which puts us in a position to offer more than the MLE/veterans exemption to someone else. Excellent point. I would think that we could get a pretty darn good player with that $7.5M considering there are supposed to be so many good free agents that year other than LeBron, Wade, Bosh, and Stoudemire, and then also factor in that the down economy may keep some teams from being able to spend as much.
  16. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ May 13, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Niedermayer's elbow was the best. He was awesome in that fight at the end. Datsyuk (I think) started to go after him, and then it was all Niedermayer. He got in like 7 straight punches before the fight was broken up. Bad decision by Datsyuk.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 13, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) I could be completely wrong, as I admittedly don't EVER watch the T-Wolves, but wouldn't Mike Miller be even MORE of a defensive downgrade from Ben Gordon? As hard as that is to imagine... Yes, he probably would be a downgrade. But, he's a great shooter and we'd only have him for 1 year. So, if Gordon is out of our price range, the positives of trading for Miller would be: 1) He'd clear just under $10M from the cap after next year, which would still give us enough space to sign a big name in 2010; and 2) At the same time, it helps lessen the blow of losing Gordon's scoring in the short-term (next season), while bridging a gap in talent from good scoring wing in 2009 to good scoring big man in 2010. If all would go according to plan after next year, then we'd lose Miller's shooting, but gain a true all-star PF. It's really not a terrible alternative to straight up losing BG.
  18. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 13, 2009 -> 02:53 AM) He is the king of getting top talent and flaming out. This is Kansas's year to shine, I cannot wait for college bball to begin!!!! Yep. Hell of a recruiter, but not a very good coach.
  19. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 12, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) First off, some good news about Slayer...his DL stint is retroactive, so he should be activated within two or three days. So, those of you who are going to Jackson, Tennessee to see the Barons, all hope is not lost. The only drawback is you may not see David Cook, because I'm pretty sure he'll get promoted to Charlotte when Beckham's activated. Secondly, I left early, when it was 12-1. But, I saw Danks' first 3 AB's. First impressions, he's definitely got the tools and the talent...and the height, goodness, I think he's actually 6'6" or 6'7". He gets down the line very quickly and he covers ground well in CF. If you were listening, he almost had a homer in his third AB. Missed by a few inches, but it may have been robbed anyway by Chris Heisey. Speaking of him, the Reds got a special player in Heisey. Carolina hit the ball hard all night, Ely and Zaleski weren't getting anything by their hitters. Sweet, thanks for the good news. Looks like I may get to see Beckham after all... I guess that wouldn't surprise me about Danks if he has grown an inch or so considering he's only 22, but damn, that's tall for a non-pitcher.
  20. So I was just doing some digging around and found out that Tyler Flowers and Drew O'Neil (our 4th round pick last year) were high school teammates. Nothing groundbreaking, but just thought I'd share.
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 12, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) Looks like Jordan Danks is getting moved up to the Barons now, pretty much meaning the Birmingham Barons are our future lineup sans Getz and Quentin. What a team... I mean, they are absolutely stacked 1-9 in that lineup with about 7 (once Beckham comes back) legit prospects. I like the odds of someone in that group becoming an all-star caliber player.
  22. Naw, man... Of course this happens. The one time I'm going to see the Barons play, Beckham goes to the DL. Good news is that there are still a ton of top prospects on that team (including Danks now), but I just really wanted to see 'ol Slayer.
  23. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 12, 2009 -> 04:05 AM) I'm sure we'll see alot of videos on Youtube, but here is Kaner's Hat Trick. Man look at the crowd... Good to see Tallon's reaction too. That 1st goal was a laser. And the 3rd... Nasty.
  24. QUOTE (VenomSox @ May 12, 2009 -> 02:37 AM) Where did this Omogrosso come from? Draft? Trade? FA? 6th round pick in 2006... He was a Closer coming out of Indiana St and worked out of the 'pen his 1st 2 seasons in the minors before getting stretched out into a Starter. I think he still projects as a reliever. Has a mid-90s fastball, IIRC.
  25. QUOTE (tommy @ May 12, 2009 -> 01:24 AM) Do you guys think we have a rough diamond in CJ Retherford, the kid is outstanding, didn't he sign as minor league free agent? Absolutely. I think he's proven enough, especially with his great start at the AA level, to be considered a legit prospect. Amazing how a good performance in the College World Series playoffs parlayed into an undrafted free agent contract to now being a legit pro prospect. Quite a rise... He only made 7 starts his senior year at ASU.
