signing frank thomas???...KW gets no credit for that...KW was in the dominican the whole last week of the thomas situation...word has it JR sent him there and then the deal was hammered out between JR and thomas' agent...with frank himself sitting in on a lot of the conversations...KW had to be sent out of the country for that deal to be consumated...if KW had his way thomas , like the others who have crossed him or he percieved that they did, lowe , barcelo , parque , durham , badwin liefer ect ect ect..have all been traded... koch - positive??...how..he hasnt thrown a pitch yet...what happens if koch has moderate success while foulke reverts back to his '01 self and valentin pitches well in middle relief (an area the sox a very thin)??..is it still a positive??? clayton...nuetral??...cmon..kw traded for him against the advice of another GM because of clayton's history as a s***head in the clubhouse...kw's intent was to move him to another team and in 2 years no one would take the guy and he cost us 9 million dollars...how can that be nuetral??? jiminez - positive??...too early to tell...we gave up a good center field prospect in alex fernandez....fernandez only 21, after being traded to the padres hit 280 in AA ball and 299 in AAA...he is considered a solid glove man with excellent speed (10 for 11 in sb's) and is ticketed as the starting CF in AAA this eyar for the padres...this trade could very well go either way... james baldwin nuetral??...not only was the barry -berry debacle an embarrassment to the franchise the two players we got in return for baldwin , masaoka and majewski are already out of the sox organization never pitching an inning for the sox..how can that be nuetral???..we got nothing in return for the 10th winningest pitcher in sox history for pitchers with over 1000 IP...doesnt that deserve better than nothing??? chad bradford positive???..bradford has developed into the A's set up man...a set up man on a perrenial playoff team....olivo hasnt proved a damn thing yet in the major...yet this is a positive for us???...the expectations for olivo are so high he will never live up to them...olivo has all of 4 hits in the majors and some are dusting off a bust in cooperstown for him durham nuetral???...he got a loser prospect that no other team wanted that in 5 years of pro ball or whatever still hasnt learned a change up..this guy wwill never be more than a cup of coffee...durham was a 2 time all star 2nd baseman..the best 2nd baseman the sox have had since nellie fox (cwsox..yes that includes bobby knoop:)) other negatives signing carlos lee to amulti year multi million dollar contract...4.2 million this year for a guy thats gone backwards every year..and probably is the worst fundemental ballplayer in the majors...he can hit pretty decent but thats it.. dont forget numerous PR blunders...its up to the fans to show up before i make a move to improve the team.....how can i spend a dollar if JR only gives me 50 cents...ragging on our players in the press...spies in the clubhouse...JR having to call a closed door meeting with the players w/o KW present to discuss KW's treatment of the players and why all the dissension. and the biggest negative of all ...95 wins..83 wins...81 wins.. kenny lofton...you have this a nuetral but id make it a positve..it only cost a million dollars to sign this guy..and KW actually got a decent prospect for him in diaz...this really shows how bad he blew the durham trade..made just a few days before this deal...durham is a much better ballplayer then lofton at this point in their careers..

Not a handsome face or a svelte body among any of them, but all are/were pretty damn good pitchers. kinda my point i think david wells was in lane 3 and 4 if memory serve me correct
-
anyone know the trackrecord of top college closers??..gotta wonder how high of a ceiling ring really has
-
lol...how sad is that...we worry about our catcher going n the DL before the 1st pitch
-
barrett hit 12 - 49 .263 last year in 376 at bats...career 260 hitter...defensvely he looks pretty weak...982 lifetime fldg pct.. thrown out 67 of 223 runners attemting to steal (30%)..has had as many as 9 passed ball in a season twice...probably overpaid at 2.5 million imo...
-
if we have 3.5 million to spend...how about 2.5 to suppan and a million to steve reed??? cwsox...always the jokster ...jb would probably retire before he would accept an offer from KW...
-
I don't think we are giving KW enough credit

so until til how are we to judge him? on the teams record???...its dropped off every year since he took over...we can make all the excuses we want about injuries and such but other teams over come them...minnesota overcame injuries to their top 3 starters last year...right now he is a failure..100%..the team has not responded under him at all... -
we need to move carlos lee....thats rediculous this guy makes 4.2 million...he makes 4.2 million and we wont pay buehrle???...wtf was kenny smoking the day he offered that contract to carlos???

Baggs....I agree...partly. Garland, as of right now, is the better pitcher...he is maturing a lot faster and will probably win more games. I can see Dan being the better pitcher in a year or so though. When he has his stuff and pitches smart, he is a very good pitcher. He is, at times, practically unhittable. But when he leaves pitches up, he gets beat. That was a major reason he gave up over 30 homers or what not. But if anyone can teach Wright a thing or two, it's Colon. They'll probably become best friends and eat at the same places....damn....that was a shot at Colon's weight.... Speaking of which, check out what baseballreference.com has Bartolo weighed at.....ROTFLMFAO! Bartolo Colon's weight garland just scares me for some reason...sometimes he looks likes in his mind he is back in cali surfing away with cade mcclown or something...i guess cade ruined cali athletes for me...im praying to god the bears draft leftwich and not palmer..lol

enough to add jeff suppan as a 5th starter or steve reed as a set up man..

why dont we just hold kenny to the standards he set for himself the day he got the job...he said if the sox dont win a world series under his watch then he will consider himself a failure -
frank thomas has to lead this team with his bat imo...it makes so much easier for maggs and paulie when he hits... there are 2 guys i think really need to come through or we are in trouble...miguel olivo because he will be doing all the catching as soon as sandy goes on the DL and the other is danny wright...who i believe will pass up jon garland as the number 3 pitcher on the staff
-
ive heard nothing but good things about this kid....very similiar body to nomar and arod..tall and slender...and scouts have compared him to both...though i think thats kinda rediculous.. never seen him play so lets hope the hype is real
-
Start trashing Jose Valentin. That works too. watchyour mouth boy
-
danny wright won 14 games last year and he gets projected to win 12 this year...garland wins 12 last year and is suppose to win 17 this year??? between the two pitchers danny wright has the higher ceiling imo...he has a better fastabll and i believe he has size and strength to be a guy that can work 230 innings or so a season w/o any problem..i also think he will benefit tremendously from bartolo colon because danny (though no where near as heavy) is the closest pitcher we have to colon in terms of stuff and body type....he could learn alot from bartolo if the two mesh well......i think danny wright will move past garland this year and establish himself as our number 3 guy...jmo
-
i read this somewhere but i cant remember where...seems that more and more major league latin ballplayers are doing what jose valentin does and go back home and play winter ball...so they are taking spots away from minor leaguers..so i guess there is some form of hiarchy...
-
ncorbl told me his buddy in the sox office told him that the guy KW really wanted was russ ortiz...when that fell through he then turned his sites elsewhere...so it wouldnt surprise at all if KW was lying...it sure wouldnt be the first time
-
And if that happened, baggio screaming about how Evans should be our GM would deafen us all. However, as long as Evans keeps signing players of the Hundley and Alvarez quality, we have peace from the quarter. man , danny evans just cant get any lovin from da southside! !!
-
if we did that and borchard didnt win the CF job we wouldnt have one left handed bat in the line up that could hit more than 5 home runs...we need both jose in the line up everyday and borchard to have a great spring and win the CF job to balance the line up out imo
-
LMAO sorry about that but i couldnt help it... reread what you wrote about jimenez being shuffled arounbd and then realize jimenez's manager is jerry "the tinkerer" manuel

So, how do the Sox stack up against the Twins?
baggio202 replied to Cerbaho-WG's topic in Pale Hose Talk
why do we keep doing this to ourselves??..every year is gonna be the sox year...then by mid season if its not working out the guys in here that are predicting 100 wins are ready to commit mass suicide... with colon our chances of winning are much better..but by no means are we a lock...i keep hearing about this young talent....young talent is the most unpredictable entity in sports....therefore no one can seriously predict that we will dominate the twins based on all this young talent...its illogical.. we are gonna have basically 4 rookies in the everyday line up...3 of the 4 are right up the middle in key defensive spots...we have no idea how olivo , crede, jimenez and rowand will respond to the everyday pressure of a division race...sure they all played great last year when the season was lost and there were 10k people in the stands...but doing it over 162 games in the heat of battle is completely different...we dont know what to expect from any of these guys... pitching...we are set at the top..but everyone is assuming garland and wright will improve on last year...is that a given??..both guys pitched almost 200 innings between them...do any of you remember tom verducci's article last year is SI called the "year after effect"???..it talked about pitchers between the ages of 21-26 that have an increase of more than 25% IP from their previous high total...about 70% of the pitchers that fall into this catagory completely fall apart the next year...garland falls into that catagory while wright is very close to it...are you guys 100% sure both wright and garland will continue to improve???....doesnt history say there is a chance one or both might backslide???.....if that happens are stil a lock???...do i even have to talk about how huge of a question mark jon rauch is??? im not saying everything bad is gonna happen but most of the posters are saying everything good will happen...so i just pointed out the other side... my feeling is i have no idea how the sox will do...i really dont...the same for the twins....if all these rooks develop like alot of you are predicting i can see 100 wins...i could see 90 losses if they dont..get an injury or 2 to key players...same with the twins...their bullpen was full of career years...if they revert to form the twins will be blowing games left and right..they could lose 100 games...but if they dont and radke, milton and mays bounce back from injury with their built in advantage in the stupid dome they could win 100 games... i think this april will be more important than any april in a long time...the division really could be won early on...because the sox are so young a good start could snowball into a real winner...a bad start could snowball us into the cellar...lets hope for the best..20 -7 april:) -
the problem with the durham deal imo is it tells other GM's that when dealing with kenny if you low ball him eventually he will give in and not walk...if we are in the same situation this july (knock on wood) look for the same thing to happen....if KW would have played hardball and just said no then other GM's know he is serious when he says he wants equal value back.. reminds of the baldwin situation...everyone was like atleast he got something...he did??...every player from the deal is gone now..never pitching an inning for the sox...
-
the guy i think that pitches the closest to colon on the staff is danny wright...hopefully colon teaches him more then where the best all you can eat joints are in town:)
-
Yeah, so I guess Lofton for Diaz and Meaux blew chunks. do we have to keep going down this road??...getting diaz was pretty good deal at the time for lofton..but you know what...had kw not made upteen screw ups in his career as the sox GM prior to finally get one right with lofton , he wouldnt have been dumping lofton in the first place because the sox would have been dominting minnesota and the division anf getting ready for the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive season... his screw ups cost us two years on top of the division..and who knows what would have happened in the playoffs...no amount of great trades from this point on can alter that fact..this guy is a failure
