  1. i honestly feel joe borchard will open up in CF this year...i just have a feeling he is gonna hit like 400 in arizona and numerous homers in the thin air and force the sox to take him north..then we have our lefty power bat
  2. it didnt make sense to sign sandy but it does make sense to sign IROD even after signing sandy...im putting sandy's done for the year mark at may 15th...from that point on its olivo and paul......please tell me this rumor is true and we are after IROD...balt offered him in the 'hood of 6 million i believe...sox can afford that
  3. I totally agree, the Bears need 3 real QBs, so why not start with one that has actually been to a Super Bowl and knows how this whole winning concept goes. Welcome Aboard Soxie Girl...I'd like to see 3 real qb's battling it out. One a draft pick of course and one of them can't be Chandler, Burris or Sauter. Get Kordell, draft a qb, keep Miller. id settle for one QB that can make a 16 game season
  4. our previous GM left KW with a league leading 95 win team , a 30 million dollar payroll and baseball america's number one rated farm system...sometimes the best trades are the ones you dont make... maybe the perfect GM is a cross between KW and RS???
  5. Reed has departed? When and where did he go? oh shoot...i was looking at the list of free agents and saw the name reed on it and thought it was rick....but it turned out to be steve reed...damn ..lol
  6. Thats what I'm saying. Not only do we have two aces, but we have a deep rotation. People can doubt Jon and Danny, but they throw innings, which takes stress of the bullpen and over the long haul, with this offense if our pitchers are keeping us in the games we will be real good. Last season we were able to go .500 despite the fact we had Ritchie and Glover who couldn't get past the 5th inning. we are not that far off jason..but we gotta get that 5th starter if we are serious about winning..because if radke and mays get back to their '01 form then i still think the twins have a slight edge for the division...they are a little more solid defensively and have a huge home field advantage playing in that stupid dome
  7. i cant believe nobody wants jeff suppan...this guy is a quality arm...everytime he pitched against us he made us look like little leaguers..atleast it seemed that way to me.. halama over suppan...suppan has pitched 200 plus innings each of the last 4 seasons..halama's high was 179 in '99 and he has dropped each of the past 3 seasons to a low of 101 last year..spending time on the DL the last 2 seasons.. i dont get it...somebody is gonna get a realnice surprise with suppan..who should have a break out year leaving that wasteland of KC
  8. jim i disagree....our bullpen is weak...with osuna gone almost every arm in the had a plus 4 era last year..and i wasnt even a big fan of osuna but we did need him and need to replace him...... with colon this might be a one year shot...we need to win now or what was the purpose of trading for him?? another name i saw on the free agent list..graeme lloyd...solid lefty Marte's era was excellent. Glover's era as a reliever is excellent. Koch's era is good. Then you have Flash whose era was in the low 3's. You also have Wunsch who I think found himself into the high 3's late in the season, but he did excell down the stretch as he got healthier. Thats more then many teams out there. Someone can check my stats, cause I'm going off the top of my head, but thats what I call a heck of a bullpen. Oh ya..we also have Munoz, Sanders, Stewart, and Almonte all ready. i forgot about marte's era , which was excellent, but the rest of those guys were horrible when it counted... glover's era was excellent as a reliever???.reliever /starter whatever...his era was over 5..thats not excellent...that doesnt mean it will be excellent out of the pen next year...since he pitched more as a starter then a reliever there was no gaurentee thats he just inconsistent and if left in the pen wouldnt have ended up with a 5 era anyways... kelly wunsch was no where near the pitcher of '00...his velocity was about 5-8 mph off his '00 pace and thats a shame cause i really like kelly but this is a guy that right now cant pitch to more then 2 guys in a row w/o getting lit up...hopefully he gets it back this year but its something we cant count on...most of the time he struggled to reach 80 mph...i thought his era ws over 4 but even if it wasnt , he didnt pitch like he did in '00 koch hasnt pitched for us yet...plus he is one year removed form a 4.80 era...which koch are gonna get..the '02 or '01 version???... gordon???...you cant be serious??...when was the last time this guy went a whole season healthy???..1987???..j/k munoz , sanders , stewart , almonte....whats their combined major league record??? you see a great pen..i see a question mark at every position...if every question is answered in the positive then yes , ill agree, we will have a great...my guess these questions will fall along a 50/50 split...half in the positive and half in the negative...ill go with wunsch and koch on the plus side..gordon and glover suck it up bigtime...maybe one of those rookies steps up and pitches well..maybe ..we still need help
  9. but buehrle has said he wants to go elsewhere..to st louis kw needs to mend this fence and get buehrle signed long term
  10. Mario and I are about the only ones who will still support that Clayton deal. In retrospect it was a terrible move, and KW admitted it. Royce's temper meshed, but HE wasn't why the Sox sucked the last two years. People can use him as the scapegoat, but there were more serious reasons for why the Sox lost. he was a major reason the sox failed..but not the only one...but he needs to take his share of the blame..he couldnt hit his weight when it counted...he wasnt only brought here to play defense...jerry manuel said he felt in this line up royce could hit 270-280 and bat 2nd along with his defense....thats the royce KW was expecting to get..plus he WAS a clubhouse cancer...this move was bad for numerous reasons
  11. you would have to hear his tone of voice to see if he was being sarcastic or not but the words themselves , if taken correctly , seems like the kind of guy buehrle is...humble but confident.. if i was GM i gaurentee id have buehrle inked to a 5 year deal...he is one pitcher worth a long term contract...
  12. until we pick up one more quality starter or maybe a impact player like IROD then i still think the twins hold the key to the division...the key for them is how radke , milton and mayes respond on their return from injuries...if they all get back to their '01 form then i think the twins are still a slight favorite..if we add somebody above i think we become the favorites regaurdless..we are close..but not quite there yet
  13. even if we did option him, he is still ours and is recovering from an ijury. barcelo is gone..was given his unconditional release...remember..he was the guy KW blasted in the papers saying that lorenzo was basically a baby because everytime he got a little owie he wanted to go on the DL...when KW does that (ala sean lowe , jim parque ) your days are done here
  14. or should you say as long as the other sox players keep their hands out of the buffet line when colon is there?? i can see it now...joe crede goes on the 60 day DL as colon mistakes his pinkie for a pig in a blanket at a pre game meal...
  15. but will sandy be on the DL come opening day???...i put it at 50 / 50
  16. oh come on now, oliva hasn't done anything to warrant what you gave him, esp if he can't cork up his bat. the man can't hit. clayton is an even deal. now you loose what ever opinion i have of you as a baseball knowledge person. that clayton remark scared me too..if we traded a used jock strap for clayton we still lose
  17. getting fleeced by KW is like losing an arm wrestling match to woody allen???...lmfao! ! !...poor minaya....he'll never live this down
  18. whoooaaaa...slow down there partner....we dont even know who the 5th starter is yet..and garland and wright were both disappointments imo last year eventhough they did win 12 and 14 games...they still have alot of room for growth...5 potential aces???....would be nice but cmon now
  19. jim i disagree....our bullpen is weak...with osuna gone almost every arm in the had a plus 4 era last year..and i wasnt even a big fan of osuna but we did need him and need to replace him...... with colon this might be a one year shot...we need to win now or what was the purpose of trading for him?? another name i saw on the free agent list..graeme lloyd...solid lefty
  20. on your list...the only player thats really distinguished himself in the role he was traded for was damaso marte jiminez...its a wait and see deal..we gave up a good prospect in alex fernandez...hopefully this turns out to be a win / win deal.. wells - im assuming this is david wells..this was a complete disaster..shouldergate ruined any good name KW had... olivo - in the last 2 years chad bradford has established himself as the A'S set up man...thats a set up man on a playoff team..we really could have used chad since our bullpen stinks imo..if we had chad in '01 he could have made a difference between throwing in the towel in july (baldwin) and trading for a pitcher to help the staff (woody williams perhaps..the same woody williams that went 7-0 for st louis in their pennant push)..olivo has done nothing for us yet... harris - he has been a disappointment so far... what is the fascination with glover???...he is 12-13 with a 5.10 era for us and all sox fans love him???...last year he regressed from '01 so i cant even be optomistic on his chance for improvement...he is a below mediocre pitcher at best..the guy we traded away for him , scott eyre , has put up better numbers with toronto and san fran..eyre - with san fran last year helped them to the world series..he had a sub 2.00 era with them...eyre's era the past 2 seasons - 4.29 colon..i love this trade...if we ink colon long term..if we dont...then to quote austin powers..."whoop t do..what does it all mean basil"???
  21. no way will i let KW off the hook for '01..its not like he didnt know going in the sox needed to answer rotation problems...he knew sirop was hurt..thats why he went after wells...we all know siro complained of a 'POP he heard in his shoulder and then numbing pain pitching in his final tune up before the playoffs..that was reported in all the papers..eldred had a 6 inch screw in his arm and baldwin was coming off surgery... we knew we had no 5th starter yet that distinguished themselves... kw's answer...trade the staff ace , a 15 game winner (remember kw didnt know he was hurt...riiigggghhhht) , for david wells...another 15 game winner...thats it...thats all he did for the rotation...then we wonder why we didnt repeat in '01??? KW didnt answer a glaring need staring him in the face..thats why we lost in '01
  22. cool..we are gonna have to hook up ..HSC...your in charge of the official "welcoming the biddles to chicago for good" party
  23. again...kw will earn my credit when he improves on the team he inherited...he was handed a gold mine...95 wins , young team with 30 million dollar payroll and BA's number one rated farm system...in two years he doubled the payroll and turned it into a .500 ballclub...now we are suppose to forgive everything because on his 18th deal as a sox GM he finally got one right??? lets wait see what happens...if he adds another starting pitcher..or seriously upgrades an everyday position with getting a guy like IROD...then inks colon to a long term deal (and buehrle too)..then , if the team wins the division and advances in the playoffs more than one season he'll get my respect...but not until...
  24. actually until today that statement was 100% correct....so youll have to understand if alot of us dont jump on the KW bandwagon just yet
  25. ive been thinking about why the sox made this deal..one of two things either they are finally becoming serious about winning agin and more deals will follow , including inking colon to a 3 or 4 year deal or this move was made because season ticket sales or so low right now they had to make one move to make sure attendance didnt get any worse..if thats the case then look for no more deals and colon walks next year time will tell..
