Robert's natural talent is the only reason he's in the big leagues right now. With that said, he isn't close to hitting his prime, way too many flaws in his game (on offense and defense). He's still a better player than probably 95% of the guys who come up with his level of minor league seasoning. Sox probably brought him up when they did because his flaws weren't going to be remedied in AAA (tightening up his O-Swing% isnt' going to happen facing AAA pitching and that's a fact) and it was a budgetary move also

not to mention, trading giolito now doesn't come close to being a rebuild, he could help restock the farm nicely, add in another couple guys and you're making it a lot easier on yourself to retool in the next few years (which, lets be honest, they were gonna need to do anyways)

they shoulda tried dumping Moncada in the offseason, i'm sure they knew all there was to know about him and his work ethic in the offseason to know whether or not he was willing to keep around. maybe nobody was interested, but this past offseason was the time to move him (well, technically it was before they threw money at him. lol idiots)

Cease and Kopech are locked up for way too long to trade them right now. You'll get the same return this year as you would next year and the year after imo

Giolito has been good for so long, this year is clearly an outlier. I think he'll definitely bring back a decent haul.

that's a great point, you never wanna predict health throughout a season but the way it's gone since 2020, you can basically pencil in a long list of core guys who are gonna miss significant (3 wks or more) time

I don't trust this team to properly evaluate either of these guys injuries or progress, I fully expect at least one of them to get hurt significantly within 4-6 weeks after coming back

it's almost like this team has been run for the last 10-12 years to tread water but never fully do what it takes to get to that next step. so many questionable decisions made by the top execs/owner that in a vacuum look like head scratchers but when you look at them all combined it's just looks .... bad? I guess is the least cynical way to describe it. mostly started after Ozzie was replaced, hiring Ventura should've brought much more criticism from the fans and sports media than it got, then replacing him with Renteria, while not as bad was still horrible. Then TLR over other much more desirable guys who were reported to be available. Then look at how the minor leagues have been run, Chris Getz? People aren't making a big enough deal about some of these moves imo
