QUOTE (wardo @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 04:31 AM) Sale has had a tremendous season obviously. An ERA of 1.88 entering August is insane. Unfortunately, he probably has no legit shot at the Cy Young although this is probably his best season so far. Spending time on the DL earlier this year has most likely already killed his chances. His innings pitched and strikeouts will be below guys like Hernandez and Scherzer, and also the amount of starts he has. Is he the best pitcher in the AL? Pretty damn close. Is he the Cy Young in 2014? No. Damn you're right. I was going to ask the question has there ever been a team with a Cy Young winner AND the rookie of the year and still finished below .500? You're right though, Sale has no chance at the Cy Young given his projected workload.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) Its probably a lot like CoD in that getting the max "level" rank isn't difficult, but unlocking the extras is. I got to level 60 on CoD in a few weeks of online game play, but its mighty difficult to unlock everything.... for example the sniper "outfit" requires 130 kills with a chrome barrel rifle. I think you got it flipped. It takes about a full day worth of play time (Literally 24+ hours of multiplayer gameplay) to get to 60, and you have to do that 10 times. 130 kills with the chrome barrel attachment is nothing, you could do that in one sit down if you really wanted to. If you can get 15 kills a game your looking at 8-9 games to unlock that.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) No prior history shouldn't come into play with some offenses. Wife beating is one. I guess it works that way in multiple sports. Chuck Knoblauch had to beat up 2 wives before the Twins pulled the plug on his Twins HOF ceremony. Beating one was OK. Now, I do think there is a difference between getting drunk and then both getting into a fight and you punching her and knocking her compared to just beating (as in repeatedly) the crap out of a woman for no reason more than you had a bad day or don't care for what was for dinner that night. I don't remember the entire story, but im pretty sure they were both fighting. Of course doesn't make it right either way.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) Did Plaxico have multiple run ins with the law when he got 4 games for shooting himself(after 2 years in prison)? Honest question, I dont recall IIRC, the law he broke was a pretty serious law in New York. I dont remember hearing about him having any previous issues.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) I think if you looked at just those two instances and laid them next to each other, yea it could be annoying when presented every fact. When you look at the league wide varying punishments for violence and drug use, you see a very strange inconsistency that is driving everyone crazy. I guess my main complaint here is that the comparisons im seeing make it look like Josh Gordon smoked weed ONCE and was suspended all year. That's pretty much what I meant by this. I understand that domestic violence is worse than smoking weed. That's what was really irritating me about what im seeing some fools post, and most of them are the pro weed crowd so its not surprising.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) If you had to ask yourself which deserved a more serious punishment, being caught with pot a dozen times or beating a woman unconscious once? I tend the think the multiple offender deserves a harsher punishment then the first time offender. Isn't that generally how life goes? Now, I think that domestic violence is worse than smoking weed. However, I then go back to the first time hes ever been in trouble before thing. Josh Gordon knew his next failed test was going to be a year long ban and did it anyways, and then while awaiting his hearing got a DUI to top it off. Ray Rice hasn't been in trouble before. Im not talking about which is worse, its more like people are ignoring Josh Gordons history and comparing this like they are both a one time instance and these are the punishments that have been laid out.
-
Does anyone else get annoyed with the punishment comparisons to Josh Gordon and Ray Rice? One guy has never been in trouble with the NFL before, the other is a multiple offender at the NFL level and was kicked out of two colleges for the same reason. I don't think its really comparable. Am I off here or does anyone else agree?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 07:06 PM) Replace Tigers with Cardinals. Cardinals are included and have been one of the most successful franchises in baseball the past 10 years. That said, given how much the draft is a crap shoot, I don't really think that the chance of one extra pick really equates to all that much in the grand scheme of tilting the balance. Don't you have to take into account that this pick can be traded though? I think that could be a pretty big add to any trades that you might not previously had been able to make.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) Yep. Like people were saying yesterday, this looks like it could be a win-win. Either Bulls get Love, or Cavs lose Wiggins. But then the Cavs would be getting Love.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) Derrick Rose certainly doesn't feel so. Yeah but Garcia isn't an overrated p****
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) Yeah, or Robert Griffin III I understand that we want to see him back, and it'd be really cool to see him back before the end of the year given the severity of his injury, but there's no need to rush back. Is there really a rush though if your cleared to play?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:55 PM) Hasn't this been debunked once you factor in tax savings + endorsements gained from winning rings? So? They all still took less money than what they could have gotten. It doesn't matter if the endorsements made up for that.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) Chinese New Year's/Spring Festival is in late February next year, so that's good luck for the baby to be born around that time. OTOH, it's pretty cold here in late Feb/early March. My son was born on February 24th, the projected new baby is for February 26th.. I hope they aren't on the same day, would suck for them

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) You have now idea what you're talking about. I played college baseball, granted at a very low level, and with 4 games a week plus practicing every day you sure as s*** get fatigued. Your hammy gets tight, your shoulder is pinched, that huge strawberry on your thigh keep getting banged up every time you slide, your fingers are all bruised... Trust me, at the end of the season your body is tired and ready for a break. I'm not saying it's like the NBA or NFL, but after 5+ months of 162 games, playing every day, that's fatiguing. Look at Adam Eaton's quotes, this is a guy in the pinnacle of fitness, a highly tuned athlete, granted a shorter one, and he said he's "legs felt like s***" at the end of April. Playing every day is fatiguing. And also, your body doesn't recovery as fast at 27-32 as when you're 16-25. That's just reality. My body, after workouts and activity (I'm 31) takes almost twice as long to recover as when I was 25 or 18. Well, once again, thats my personal opinion. You are free to disagree, my stance wont change.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) 162 game season? 140 game season? No, and I am not going to try and compare myself to Jose Abreu. This is just my personal opinion.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) I don't think it's confirmed, but it's heavily rumored. I think Bungie's comment was something like they don't want to make you grind for dozens of hours to get to the good stuff. It also sounds like it's a "soft cap" in that you can keep adding skills and grabbing more powerful loot. Sort of the old line "the game doesn't really start until you hit the level cap." Once again, that's not confirmed, just what I've read on some boards. The grind is the best part though

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) Which is easy to say safely seated at your computer. Yes, Im sure there are plenty of people who never played sports and arm chair GM safely from their computer. I would not be one of those people. Im well aware of how demanding baseball is, and its not very much. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Have you played baseball during the summer? Yes, have you ever played baseball and football at the same time during the summer in Texas? Probably not.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Still, it's 6 months long with very few off days. Mentally it is grueling. If he isn't used to it, and how can he be, it is going to be tough for him at first IMO. I disagree, but I suppose well see how he finishes
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) It isn't hard for me to imagine Abreu falling off in August and September, especially in the power department. Remember the season in Cuba is 90 games long. I could see him fatiguing for sure. Baseball is the least physically demanding sport there is, there's no reason for a first baseman to ever be fatigued.
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) It wouldn't surprise me. I think he finishes with around 40, maybe 42,43, but I expect his average to continue to rise, maybe even getting up to 310 by the end of the year. I will totally trade some slugging for a higher OBP. I think Jose finishes 300/355/590. A helluva year and a wRC+ of around 160 from that line and around 5 fWAR. Not bad, not bad at all, a true star player. Id be shocked if he didn't hit at least 15-20 more HRs
-
People really think Abreu is only going to hit 9 or 10 more HRs the rest of the way

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) Is that one also going to pass out with food in his/her hand? Haha, I think its a strong possibility it runs in the family

Congrats man, my wife is also currently pregnant at a little over 8 weeks as well.. well have to have a race to see who comes out first

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) I kind of like that the loot isn't as plentiful. Yeah, Borderlands was loot-heavy, but I felt like I spent way too much time comparing guns and managing my inventory when I really only used a handful of guns. I'm fine with only a couple items per mission, depending on length of course. I also hope the damage scaling isn't as steep when you level, by the end of the game like 90% of the stuff you find isn't really useful. I think they're talking about a level cap of 20, which could prevent that. With the weapon upgrading, I also shouldn't have to replace my s*** every 20 minutes. I loved Borderlands 2, but those things definitely annoyed me at times. Level cap of 20 for Destiny? I sure hope not as I got to level 8 very quickly

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) It also feels a bit like Halo. I didn't find anything to wow me really. There's nothing wrong with it, but there's also nothing that makes me want to spend $60 on it. Its hard to be wowed when you only get to do the same repetitive sampling of the game in a tiny area the whole time. Overall though, its a day 1 get for me. I love me some RPG games and I will no doubt sink a lot of time into this one.
