He’s a catcher so he’s built differently, but Achilles tears are one of those injuries that you know it’s bad just from the player’s reaction….it appears to be one of the most painful injuries you can suffer. Teel tried to get up after the play and tried putting weight on it. He was definitely in pain but it didn’t look like “holy s%*# that hurt I’m screaming in pain” kinda deals. Maybe a strain, if we’re lucky.

How has he never averaged over a k per inning?

Gonzo has nowhere to play so why not deal him for a stud college starting pitcher close to MLB-ready? Could be an overpay but we can’t see their draft board. That said, if Getz considered Gonzo trade bait and used him to snag a comp pick rather than improving the 2026 roster, I expect the deadline to be fairly quiet for the Sox. You don’t trade a top trade chip away for a comp pick if you plan on pushing in some major chips on this season.

This is where overslot money comes into play. Sox are playing from a position of power. They can tell a kid and his agent to tell every other team he won’t sign because the Sox are going to pay him the most.

Drafting a prep player 1-1 who doesn't look like a high school version of Shohei is just far too speculative for my taste. 1-1 should be reserved for a player you know, with 80%+ confidence, can get to the bigs relatively quickly and become a constant in the lineup/rotation. I think that sends a really bad message to Gonzo. You run the risk of him heading down feeling deflated and that carrying over into his game. Dude has stepped in and played very well both defensively and offensively.
