QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp Way to be Rocco!! I don't remember him being on Kanny's roster in 2007, but I guess he was.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 04:35 PM) They each had the right to go to Charlotte or become a FA as far as I know (did Betemit accept assignment yet?). We're paying them anyways; we mind as well get some hopefully unneeded depth. He was outrighted today, so I guess he accepted.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) Considering they didn't refuse assignment to Charlotte, they want to be there most likely. Granted, but why not release them outright? I just don't see either player coming back to the White Sox. They wouldn't have acquired Castro if the had Miller in the plans for the rest of 2009. Betemit played his way out of Chicago.
-
With Wilson Betemit being outrighted to Charlotte, and Corky Miller already there, but immediately placed on the DL, are the White Sox really going to bring either back? Honestly? It's not impossible, but very unlikely. So, why try to keep them? Let them go and find jobs elsewhere. Thoughts?

I'm going to defend Treybone, he's an aggressive RBI guy. But he spent the first month or so of the season batting leadoff. He's also been yo yo'd up and down the lineup. Plus, he is only playing 4 out of 5 games. He seems to have picked it up since spending more time in the 7,8,9 holes. Last year he was hitting consistently in the top of the order, usually 2, 3 or 4. Yes, there has been a decline in all of his numbers, but his approach has obviously been changed, and the adjustment is taking time. One thing that always is failed to be mentioned is the adjustment from playing at Ernie Shore and playing at Regions Park. Unfortunately, those two parks are so different that it can throw off a lot of players. I've seen it over and over before. Shelby needs more time to develop, plain and simple. I'll give him the second half to pick it up, with the likelihood that players like David Cook will be promoted.

If Konerko can't go... Who should come up?
JPN366 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Although, it seems Pat Burrell is rehabbing with Charlotte, so maybe he would be a good replacement. I called him "Slow Bat Pat" while he was rehabbing with Montgomery. Of course, that is a mistake, he should be listed on Durham's roster. -

Ward or Phillips likely. Phillips can play 4 positions, and Ward has plenty of MLB experience. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) White Sox select another one of Kenny Williams' kids. What was the holdup? This one was Tyler a 3rd basemen. I guess he'll spend most of his professional career on the DL like Kenny Jr.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) Tyson Corley.. Gotta keep an eye on him (why he isn't in W-S despite his good numbers in Kanny even last year is anyone's guess) but man this guy has an eye popping GB/AO ratio since we drafted him.. He had been promoted to Charlotte, but he was returned to Kanny. Didn't make an appearance with the Knights. Guess he was just insurance when Contreras left and before Whisler came back.

Goldy B. Simmons...awesome.

THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) Yeah, but the low def channel works if you don't have a high def TV. The piped in clapping after every draft pick is awful. I know, I was saying that they only broadcast one feed in HD, some channels have a standard feed and an HD feed. ESPN and MLB only have HD feeds. -

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) You know whats weird? I just found the MLB network on my Comcast programming, and flipped it on, then I looked and realized it was smack dab in the middle of the HD channels(I dont have an HD tv) and immediately hit guide to find the normal channel. Except for some odd reason, MLBHD is working for me. Whats up with that? They only broadcast in HD, no simulcast in regular defintion like a lot of channels. -
I'm predicting #49 for Aaron.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) I really enjoyed it. It is interesting how the main character takes on the role of the storyteller/muse like in traditional Greek mythology. Pretty entertaining, though. Speaking of Jeffrey Eugenides, have you or anybody read The Virgin Suicides? It's better than the movie, even though that's not all that bad.

That's one of the great things about baseball, dubious DL stints.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) The Onion had a piece about Prince Fielder and C.C. Sabathia trying to eat each other last year. The funniest thing I ever read on the Onion was an article about how Craig Counsell was the best baseball player of the last decade or so because of steroids.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) Contreras and Hafner look like Shrek. Colon looks like Andre the Giant Hafner looks like Donkey... Here's the Colon/Shrek comparison...

Just a thought, but doesn't Colon look like Shrek? I'm mean seriously. Not trying to joke, am I the only one who sees that?

Minor League Catch-All thread 2009 edition
JPN366 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
Charlie Shirek was promoted to B'ham to take Aaron Poreda's spot. With Colon going on the DL in Chicago, Poreda takes his spot. Tyson Corley, who for some odd reason was promoted from Kanny all the way to Charlotte, should be sent to W-S to take Shirek's roster spot. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) Each of the half season winners meet in the playoffs. And, if one teams wins both halves, then the team with the next best record gets a wild card spot. And, the team that wins both halves gets home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) If anyone has read Middlesex, there is reference to it in there. I have it, haven't read it though. Is it good?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) My guess is Ozzie doesn't want to play the kids and wants to keep Wise and Kenny said the kids are going to play and Wise is gone. Also from a marketing standpoint saying the team is horses**** isn't likely to put butts in the seats. I don't understand why anybody would be stumping for Wise. No offense, but everybody here realizes that he's just a AAAA type of player and he didn't all of the sudden do anything last year in Charlotte that he didn't do with other AAA teams in the years before. I don't wish him any ill will, but he's not a long term 25 man roster guy. Maybe a week or two, but not for weeks or months or seasons at a time. I am partial to David Cook in all honesty, but I think he could provide more for the big club than Dewayne Wise. I think a lot of people would agree. Hell, Michael Restovich would be more productive. Ozzie and Wise must be in love. Photoshop anyone? Brokeback Ozzie/Weezy? That's the only thing that justifies the situation.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) ok, i need some help. trying to plan a nice party for my wife's 30th birthday, but want to avoid the traditional bar-type party. I tried Arlington Park, but they can't accomodate us on the dates I need. Looking for something that has an "activity" along with it for say 25-30 guests ranging from 12 to 85. Help!!!! Go Karts. Take notes in the future, women drop hints. My wife was exhilarated with her birthday present last week. That's because I took note of something she said in the past.
