  1. Coop + Herm * display history of success = good. Also interesting that he specifically asked for no financial aspects to be set forth. I don't know much about what Chicago has to offer when it comes to the cultural aspects requested. Still putting our odds at 1 in 1,000,000,000 ?
  2. Let the Avi conversing continue! MLBTR released a well written summary today... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/look...rcia-trade.html I also thought it interesting to see a name like Paven Smith brought up within that article.
  3. QUOTE (ron883 @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) You don't chance abreu having a down year and hurting his trade value. Trade him for prospects if the to t it deal comes. Rockies aren't trading rodgers for Abreu LOL. Some people overvalue him around here. Two prospects in the 50-100 range or a top 100 and 2-3 decent prospects if possible. Out of curiosity, how did you do predicting the value of Sale, Quintana, and / or Eaton?
  4. Maybe for a couple of our 3rd tier prospects, otherwise... and maybe even under that pretense... no thanks.
  5. I'm surprised ( and not so surprised ) to see Carson Fulmer so low on many lists.
  6. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) He might be better than Kopech, just as good, or just below. I'm right there with ya on Hansen. Totally have a prospect stiffie for that dude.
  7. QUOTE (Jim Busby @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 07:13 AM) This is the ONLY person who wants the Chicago White Sox to really WIN. The other replies I read sounds like OLD Cubs who the 2000 fan base. As a true Chicago White Sox Fan I want to win Now. 8. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) Abreu to Rockies for McMahon, Tom Murphy, and Ryan Castellini I know nothing about those last two dude you mentioned... mind informing me?
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) ...The rabid American message board fan loves rebuilds... Or we've closely observed the team trying to patch holes in free agency and by way of selling the farm in trades... we've watch that method fail miserably for a decade... and while we've watched that, we've also noticed that many teams have been winning the World Series by rebuilding. Edit: I also think that a good team to compare our aspirations to is the San Francisco Giants. They draft and develop well, rarely trade away the farm, spend big when necessary, and started a run of annual contention through rebuilding.
  10. Hadn't considered the prospect of signing both of these guys in 2020 if we did trade them and wanted them back. That's a good thought.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) Also, f*** SSS Larry for being a dick to him on Twitter that one time. Dan handled his s*** pretty well all things considered. Lol - what happened?
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) Moncada and his twinkie habit is not someone I'd want Maitan to be getting conditioning tips from :
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) Sports franchises won't be able to turn down the free money. It's inevitable in all sports. They're gradually doing it so you get used to the idea and don't throw a fit when it does happen. It will happen in our lifetimes. If fans of European soccer teams eventually got over it (teams that in some cases predate anything we have over here), we will too. Yea - totally agree that it's inevitable... but my soul will be crushed, my eyes will be sore, and my head will want to explode.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) ...maybe...
  15. It's so strange seeing all of the promo patches on the jerseys in the AFL... I really hope that MLB never goes down that soul selling road ala MLS.
  16. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) I'd hope you read the bit by Longenhagen on the guys that were set free by the Braves. If the Sox don't get any, it is no biggie IMO. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-braves-...-and-its-harsh/ Within that article, I found it pretty interesting that he goes so far as to classify Maitan as a: Boy am I glad that we didn't end up getting him as a part of a Sale deal. Moncada + Kopech both seem to be droll worthy prizes. Hell, I'd even say that there's a potential for us to "win" that trade looking back in about 8 years.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) Machado is going to get an opt-out, so I think contract length is less of a concern. Regardless, I don’t see him getting more than 10 years. Let’s say you pay him $35M/year with an opt-out after year 4. You basically need 16 WAR over his 26 to 29 year old seasons to break even. IMO, that seems like his floor and you could very well get 24 WAR over that period. The obvious risk with a Machado signing if he suddenly pulls a Heyward and now you’re stuck with an albatross contract for 10 years. But honestly, that seems like an incredibly unlikely outcome to me and we can’t be afraid to take small, calculated risks to add impact talent when we’ll have money to burn. Another aspect of Machado that hasn't been discussed ( to my knowledge ) is his character. The dude seems like a walking primadonna in the vein of ARod-lite. In most free agent and trade target related discussions, Kenny Williams and RH both have always seemed to place a high importance on these "intangible" items... like personality, character, and clubhouse leadership skills. I wonder if Manny brings up a red flag to the brass in our front office.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 07:10 PM) Should have worded that better. If the Sox passed on Robert to make a run at Ohtani and fail to sign him, they miss out on both players. The Sox had a much better chance of signing Robert than Ohtani. Yea, that sure seemed implied but some posters on this board like to point out "fault" in any opportunity. Hell, I'm sure I do it a lot as well... and in one indirect way, I'm even doing it right now.
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 05:02 PM) Even scarier is that Machado will be 26 when he becomes a FA, same age as Stanton when Stanton signed a 13 year contract worth 325M. That contract will be the starting point for Machado and it's already being speculated Machado could end up closer to 400M. If that's the case, I'm not in the least bit interested in Machado. I could make an argument for Machado at a near 400 million 13 year contract. A faulty argument at that but it's fodder for offseason talk, none the less: Current dollar value per WAR for 2017 is 10.5m with that rate rising at least 3% annually. If we just stick with that 10.5m figure... a 400 million dollar contract over 13 years would require a total WAR of 38 for a "break even point." Machado has averaged 5 WAR across his first 6 seasons with some up and down abberations that are a certainty throughout those 13 years. Take the 5 WAR average and multiply it out for 13 seasons and you've got a WAR projection of 65. That's a 170% ROI. Again... a faulty argument but I'm sure more advanced logic of this vein will be in Machado's Free Agent package handed out to GM's next year. I'd be fine getting behind it and I'd also be fine letting it go.
  20. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) Scary to think about. Pujols was 32 when he signed that deal. Machado is going to be only 25... How crazy would it be to see a 12 year contract handed out ?
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) Same numbers you previously claimed were inaccurate. ?
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) The Mariners are on the west coast, have traded for additional bonus pool $, have made an early offer to bring Iwakuma back to Seattle and are suspected to be interested in reuniting with Ichiro. Things could be lining up for Seattle. ??
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) Typically that means west coast over east coast for Japanese players. That's what I figured as well - but didn't want to make an assumption... because... well, you know... that whole assumption thing.
  24. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) Well done, Get it up there now!!! I intentionally made it as ugly as possible.
  25. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) Ohtani mentioned geographic location... Sure would have been nice for him to expound upon that statement.
