  1. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) He's the new Cody Asche
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) I'd laugh if Arrieta signed with Milwaukee. The amount of b****ing by cub fans would be hilarious. Just like with Fowler when he signed with STL. The Yanks could always try Lou Piniella, again. Seriously though, based on the little I've read on the Yanks managerial search, I'd say Meulens is their best bet for the job. According to quotes I've read from, he looks to a have a great understanding on how important it is for the manger to communicate with his players. Letting go of Girardi was pretty stupid IMO... of course, what the f*** do I know?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) More details at who could be involved and to what extent. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/262323234/wh...picid=151437456 Great, so this will be finish by Jan 15. 2018 and Ontani will be wrapped up by Dec. 23rd. Thank god.
  4. - https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/brav...violations.html That's gonna be quite the Christmas present for one group of devoted fans!
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) ...However, I do wonder if this might shake loose another Thyagomizer type deal... Good point - hadn't considered that angle before!
  6. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) I think there was some confusion (at least for me) about whether teams in the penalty could go to $500k. I'm still confused about that!
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 04:55 PM) I hope I didn't come off as dismissive there. I was curious if I was misunderstanding something. That being said, I don't see why these guys already having a payday would make a difference to the players as they hit the free market. Do you think their agents and/or managers care these guys already got paid a little bit (by baseball standards) a few years ago? These guys are going to get paid as much as they possibly can in more cases than not. If any one of these guys sign with the Sox it's because they are the caliber of prospect, at this moment in time, who is only worth 300K at the most. It really isn't that big of a deal dude. People are talking about s***. You've joined the party. Yahoo. My personal opinion has already been expressed.... the chances of us getting someone on a good deal is slim... but I do personally think there's a chance. Mostly, this is the only potentially relevant White Sox baseball news for us to currently discuss. That is - unless you've got some riveting new Roger Bossard article to throw us all.
  8. I personally don't put a high likelihood of us signing anyone internationally but it's not that far of a stretch. My odds are Ontani: 0.00001% but I'll put a 30%+ rate on us signing one of the 12 former Braves.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) Confused to why people think Sox are players here? I mean maybe they get one of the lower end guys for 300K if they even have that much money left but I don't think that would call for anymore excitement than any amateur international signing. If the Sox don't have the lowest spending power internationally, they're probably second or third. My rational is as such: 1.) These guys have already got in some cashes a big pay day which they get to keep - so money might not be the biggest motivating factor. 2.) They may be drawn to our team and be sold on our future opportunities.
  10. Cool to know this is likely to be over before 2018 begins. Thank God.
  11. Haven't seen this mentioned here yet since the announcement today, but the following information makes me believe that we have a significant chance to sign any of these players... and that we have a chance to lure multiple names.
  12. What an unusual and odd offseason this is setting up to be!!

  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 01:50 AM) I'll give the 2019 roster a shot. Won't be the sexiest but here goes. 1B Zach Collins 2B Yoan 3B Yolmer SS TA LF Ryan Cordell CF Leury RF Eloy C Seby Zavala DH Delmonico Bench: Narvaez, Saladino, Engel, May Rotation: Rodon, Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Hansen. If Rodon is still having problems everyone moves up a slot with Dane Dunning moving into the 5th spot. Bullpen: Vieria, Burdi, Fulmer, Clark, Fry, D.Dunning. I think Abreu and Avi are gone by then be t I won't speculate as to the return. Also don't want to assume the Sox go after Manny Machado so I left him out of the mix. Plus, I think the Sox see Jake Burger as their future 3B and will have Yolmer continue to play 3B until Burger is ready. I think what could be even more interesting is forecasting the 2020 lineup when names such as Robert, Adolfo, Burger, Cease, Sheets, Rutherford, Basabe, Clarkin start coming into the picture. Damn straight it ain't sexy but the future for the Chicago White Sox sure is!
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 02:16 AM) I would expect an NL team to claim Appel (Padres?). Oh yeah... I always forget the goofy ordering rules
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 01:01 AM) ...What gets me is guys like Hanson, May, Albuquerque and Farquhar being kept over Guerrero and Polo.
  17. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 08:38 PM) I can understand why a nearly 25 year old Pentecost went unprotected. Arm strength questions and has not been able to remain healthy. Not sure we bite with Zavala and Collins in the system. Your shirt avatar is tits ?
  18. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 06:26 PM) Mark Appel DFA'd. CCFH. Pentecost and Appel = Happy ?
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 06:04 PM) Max Pentecost will be eligible to be picked Hope we're able to swoop and stash on him
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) 5/50 is the right amount. But like I said I wouldn't extend him yet. Cant have it both ways, I says.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) If he puts up another all star year next year, he's 1 year away from Free Agency with Justin Upton caliber numbers. If you wanted to extend him next offseason and he repeated his 2017 season, he's a $100 million+ extension. Agreed, the numbers I suggested are all stated to be team friendly deals.
  22. QUOTE (ypres @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) What would be a realistic Avi-extension that most are comfortable with? 5/$30M-6/$48M? I think 5/50M would be reasonable for the player and the team if we wanted to take that gamble now. If we wait until next offseason and he puts up another all-star level year, we're probably looking more like 5/70. All of these numbers side more with a team friendly "I want to stay with the White Sox" type of player intention. If he's looking to maximize his pay day / meet in the middle to avoid FA - then you're probably looking more at something along the lines of 5/90.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) 2B: Moncada 3B: Machado DH: Abreu LF: Jimenez 1B: Smoak RF: Avi Garcia C: Collins (believe he'll start the year in 2019 with the Wsox) SS: Anderson CF: Cordell Bench: Delmonico Hanson Saladino McCann (short term contract at 35. Will split time between catcher, 1b, and dh) Rotation: Rodon Giolito Kopech Lopez Hansen Bullpen: Herrera Burdi Vieira Stephens Fulmer Bummer Flores I love it and would be all about it. Two things stick out thou... 1.) With Smoak, he's got a team 6m option with a 250k buyout for 2019. So if he keeps crushing it then that 6m option is a no brainer for the Blue Jays. If he starts to regress thou and is bought out, we wouldn't want him then. 2.) I think that the bullpen would be a bit more beefed up at the backed... or do you really believe in Bummer and Flores? I'll get around to posting my version soon - this is a dope ass thread.
  24. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) This has been discussed ad nauseam on the Otani thread, but I'm going to continue to believe in the possibility of him coming to the White Sox until he's signed somewhere, at which point it's either celebrate or move on. You know the theme song from the old school original Nintendo Mario games... the part where you'd be in a castle dungeon running along while avoiding fireballs.... It went something like this.... da da da da da-da Well, whenever I read hopeful ( or even pessimistically hopeful ) sentiment regarding Otani - that damned them song plays in my head with one slight aberration: dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb-dumb
