  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 08:28 AM) 2018 should be the year of letting the kids play. Why not see what they can do? Why saddle yourself with an aging free agent and a big payroll when only 15-20k come out to games at times? Indeed... see the sig:
  2. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 14, 2018 -> 05:58 AM) I mean Fisher is already 24 he's at the age where he'll either advance a couple of levels next year or be viewed as a non prospect. You sign Martinez you basically block him along with Gillaspie. Also at some point Burger with his frame maybe moved to 1B too. I don't want the 1B/DH position clogged with any FA for 5 years even someone of good a hitter as Martinez and 2020 is pretty much the plan Hahn set out at his end of season press conference last year. He'll be what 33 and on his steep decline phase. No thanks. Well that makes much more sense laid out like that - but Sheets is no where near the bigs for sure.
  3. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 09:42 PM) Agreed. He also doesn't match the window at all. His contract will be terrible by the time the whitesox are good. Awful idea. If they want a DH type there are veteran guys on the market. Duda for example. Bautista. Holliday. There is also internal options in Sheets. Fisher and Gilaspie Sheets and Fisher? Ummmmm.... maybe in 2020?
  4. Hey, something big finally happened. Yay.
  5. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 08:23 PM) Mark Buehrle was the Opening Day starter from 2002-2011 with the lone exception of 2006 when Jose Contreras started. That's 9 OD starts which is the Sox record. So I vote MB. You rock
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 09:57 AM)
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 04:40 PM) When JD Martinez went from a DFA guy to breakout, he had a .389 BABIP. The next season it went down to about .340 but he added homers. I think Avi could do the same thing. He should hit a lot more than 18. Ding ding ding - winner winner, chicken dinner.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 05:03 PM) I think parking at a major sporting event should be 10 bills. I think that apple pie at every establishment should be free on Tuesdays.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:29 AM) I read where Shields was in line to start on Opening Day. Probably the worst opening day starter the White Sox have thrown out their since Jaime Navarro. I was one of the biggest opponents of the Shields trade and agree with your sentiment but I will also say this... I think he will surprise us all in 2018.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 08:52 PM) Let's cross our fingers that of Burger, Collins and Rutherford, we get at least 2 productive (2.5+ WAR) contributors from that trio. Interesting thing about all 3 is that they're fomer first rounders who I could easily see busting, becoming solid contributors, or being all-star.
  11. Stranger than fiction crazy wacko s*** here https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/01/agen...d-by-mlbpa.html
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 11:45 AM) We were all super frustrated with the Astros not ponying up for Q last year, but I have to say that I hope we operate exactly like they have when we need to acquire. +1,000,000
  13. By chance.. Do any board members of The Walt Disney Company or Hearst Communications hold an interest in the Cubs?
  14. 2018... the year of a system wide "wait sitting on your hands" evaluation mode.
  15. Them Dodgers must see something they like in Peter... they could have brought in a few teams to facilitate our role ( I imagine ). And with that, I will part by saying:
  16. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 07:07 PM) How much money did the Sox get? 18 million. Reading comprehension problems?
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 06:56 PM) Not a bad post... The arbitrator hath spoken.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 05:37 PM) Greg demands a better major league roster in 2018. Rick Hahn improves the talent roster for the 2018 roster Greg is furious. Sounds about right.
  19. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 01:45 PM) His Home/Away & Vs. RHP/LHP Splits might provide a different perspective. Good - the title of this thread was changed to include the word "Fake" Enough said.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 10:08 AM) The guy who tweeted this is my friend. It's 100% fabricated, he did it to see if anyone would believe him Some friend ? Hommie must be a young teenager.
  21. Makes no sense. Better FAs next year. Would likely be the biggest contract given out in Sox history. I don't know enough about him statistically but maybe they're looking at him longer term sliding into a DH role. That also doesn't even touch the questionable credibility of this "source"...
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 09:16 AM) A fun read on how trades happen in the 21st century. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/04/sports/b...l?smid=tw-share Second direct reference to this I've seen during the offseason... I find it hilarious and would give a finger to see a collection of texts with accompanying gifs / emojis. Wonder if anyone uses "the farting dog"... ??
  23. QUOTE (Ross Gload Fan @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 06:13 PM) Jake Burger BP Not gonna lie, he seems really devoted to fixing his flaws and working to be a beast. What are your realistic expectations for him in the grand scheme of things? Beautiful swing and can you say loft city? Crazy how different he looks already!
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) And the Orioles are looking for more? For a RENTAL? What idiots. That is one hell of a return. I read the tweet as the names being mentioned - rather than both of them being offered concurrently. You'd have to imagine Baltimore isn't stupid enough to turn down such a deal... but then again, this is Baltimore we're talking about... after all.
