  1. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) Can't wait to infuse a Top 3 pick in this system next year, hopefully the top college bat (Bryant-like addition)
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) Siera Santos‏Verified account @SieraSantos 8m8 minutes ago Rick Hahn just sat down to address the media. Looked around and joked that we needed to "wait for wetbutt23"... #WhiteSoxTalk
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) Listening to Hahn's banalities...that's almost worse than Ventura pressers. The whole "you know" thing can easily be fixed. Along with coming up with a bit more of a trademark style or shtick instead of being a generic Mr. Informative/Thorough. The trick is to be charismatic, comfortable with humor and simultaneously memorable/compelling. All that comes with time and practice.
  4. QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) So its been a little over a day since the trade happened. How is everyone feeling about it now? I'm excited, the only thing that scares me is how far away they are. Obviously we didn't need anyone that could contribute right now, but getting a bunch of guys that aren't proven in the higher level scares me. That being said, I love the trade still. I think Jimenez is the best single prospect we could've gotten in return. Also like "replacing" Quintana with a top pitching prospect as well. The coach of Eloy's last A ball team said that he could literally be a September call up type of a guy on a contending team this year. Said that he could make the White a Sox middle of next year. He was mainly speaking to the kids talent level and not actually projecting his timeline. My guess based on everything I've read and heard is a September call up in 2018 or starting in May of 2019. Regardless, it's nice to see that his talent is seen as professional talent developers as being able to play in the bigs this year. I too was a little ( as in tiny ) bit concerned that all of these guys where in A ball.
  5. Well... initial emotional type of reaction is, this sucks. Considering our timeline to contention and the reliability of the TJ process, logically the reaction is.... oh well.
  6. This must be watched... Jose, the heart will carry on: http://www.youdubber.com/index.php?video=V...p;audio_start=0
  7. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) What Greg is this?!?
  8. The next 17 days sure are going to be muy interesting.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) A #2 prospect in an organization and who is on top 100 lists is a filler? I posed the same question to him as well in this thread and he replied a few pages back.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) I spend 5 weeks in the mountains and a week on the beach and you only come away with 2 top 50 prospects? You're slowing down Rick! Anyway, after the Jiminez deal, I don't think I saw this posted anywhere but it is worth being stated. I cannot come up with, in my memory of MLB history, a single franchise that has ever gone from a bottom of the league system and a team mired at the bottom of its division and wound up within 8 months with a consensus top 2 system, with basically zero damaging long term contracts on the books. It often takes GMs 4 or 5 years to do what he did in 8 months. We have seen it take franchises 2 or 3 GMs to figure this out. Fairly or unfairly, Rick Hahn has just set the standard by which every single future GM of a struggling franchise is going to be judged. Teams like the Mariners, Padres, Phillies - that have been stuck at the bottom of a division for way too long - their GMs are now going to be hit with statements about how the White Sox took a 4th place team and went from a top 25 system to a top 2 system in 8 months and why they can't do things like that. I don't know whether Hahn can take this organization the next step...but if he ever finds himself out of a job for whatever reason, he will immediately get an offer to come in somewhere and handle an organization in that same boat. This is the gold standard. We may never see it done this well again. It was really all about having Sale / Q / Eaton - a testament to his contract negotiation skills with each of them and with the team as a whole in acquiring and developing them. Not taking away from your thought process, just adding to it. Can't really think of a rebuilding team starting off with assets like that to begin the process with.
  11. QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) Given the Nats bullpen woes I wonder what the haul would be if we send them Robertson, Kahnle & Swarzak. If I'm Rick Hahn I'd be calling Rizzo and planting the go big idea over the next few weeks. I almost posted this exact thought about 10 minutes ago.
  12. QUOTE (striker @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) My dream scenarios: Robertson and Swarzak to Nationals for Kieboom and Soto Abreu to Yankees for Andujar and Florial Frazier and Kahnle to Red Sox for Chavis and Groome Avi to Cardinals for Kelly and Flaherty Depth OF: Jimenez, Robert, Soto, Florial, Basabe, Adolfo, Call, Fisher, May, CA: Kelly, Collins 3B: Andujar, Chavis, Burger, Kieboom 2B: Moncada, Kieboom SP: Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Groome, Cease, Flaherty, Fulmer, Dunning, Hansen, Adams, Stephens
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 05:02 AM) This is so much better than signing bad white players... What about bad Hispanic, African American, or Finish players? Well, I guess Finish players would be considered "white"... so, uh... yea.
  14. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) BA posted a list of 2018 draft prospects to get familiar with. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2018-...list/?amphtml=1 Very interesting that they list 5 positional players ahead of Beer and Gray isn't one of them.
  15. He also got a kind shout out from Garfin and Hayes on the most recent CSN podcast released around 3am cst
  16. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 07:32 AM) Hawk referred to Samardzija and Sale as the "Captains of Attitude" in 2015. In his honor, I will refer to Shields as the "Captain of Tank" Totally awesome.
  17. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 01:03 AM) Jimenez a good starting point just don't like the rest of the deal. If he isn't a big time player this deal is an epic fail imo. It's underwhelming even in comparison to the Sale deal where I don't think we got as much as we should have. With Sale I would have tried to sweeten the deal with something like Sale + Jones for Moncada, Devers, Kopech. Quality over quantity. Jones was expendable and was an attractive add for a contender in the offseason. Point being by himself he's not going to bring a Devers back so if that puts us over the top why not just do it? Not many opportunities to add prospects like that. I don't trust our evaluation of middle/lower tier prospects yet. Not enough of a track record for me to trust they can pick diamonds in the rough like the best organizations can. They have been too bad at that for too long. They can let their results do the talking. Yea man - I get the whole Devers thing but from what I've read the Red Sox weren't trading him for anything, he was reportedly off the table. Also... all prospects are "wait and see" - it's just a probability proposition. We're going to be playing a lot of "wait and see" game soon over the next couple years at least, on a lot of fronts. Put two fingers up, look at your hand, and call it a night.
  18. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:38 AM) Potential. The key word there. And that guy is a single A pitcher you're talking about. For an ace caliber starter on one of the best deals in baseball for years to come. Don't like the deal. For the record - I hated the Shields deal with a passion, was ok with/mildly disappointed with no Devers inclusion in Sale deal, loved the Eaton deal, disappointed with this one. Cease already had Tommy John too. Holy s*** I like this deal less and less. Cubs robbed us I can't believe it. I'm with you 1000% on hating the Shields move... I was one of the most vocal about it. We just don't see eye to eye on this deal. Two fingers.
  19. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:28 AM) Not enough for gift wrapping the Cubs another World Series. Would have liked to see another top prospect rather than 3 fillers. Quality over quantity. Disappointed with the return. Would have rather kept Q until we saw what we have with the newest additions at the big league level before accepting this kind of return. More disappointed with this one than the returns for Sale or Eaton. Especially if you are giving him to the Cubs you've got to get a better deal than this. A top 50 - 65 league wide prospect with the potential to be a top of the rotation SP is "filler"?
  20. QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:04 AM) Does anybody know if we have a shot at getting a competitive balance pick if we suck enough. On MLB they say it is a formula including standing and revenue generated but really don't go into further detail. Based on how I interpreted the competitive balance rules when they came out - we're considered a large market team regardless of standings and have no shot at a pick... however, someone more knowledgeable should chime in because I'm not 100% certain.
  21. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) That's all speculation, they're all responsible. I don't wanna hear about how Hahn is exempt from the team being hot trash for as long as they have. The odds of the Sox ever seeing another talent like Sale coming through their system is extremely small yeah i'm salty af, but our front office is garbage until they prove otherwise. congratulations, you've traded for other teams prospects wake me up in 2 years when the big league club is something besides trash To correct you, ummmm... good Sir.... I don't believe any soxtalk posters have made any trades. I'd say, "enjoy your seething" but that anger certainly doesn't look comfortable. Owie.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 07:21 PM) I always found tin foil hats itchy. +1 ( potential for distracting from baseball discussion
  23. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 06:02 PM) I spoke with several Sox and Cub fans around town today and to a man, every cub fan liked the trade and every so fan was madder than he11. Why make a trade that helps the cubs...in any way shape of form? Hahn had other alternatives. Tanto
  24. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) Hell, you can control me for half that! I'll take 1% of that
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) it's just hilarious that we actually found this last night Jose Abreu for the win
