The What If Thread
Say they don't rebuild and move on being sellers. Say they decide to "Go For It." ( vomit into a bag and then consider for s***s and giggles. ) The White Sox 2017 payroll commitments are currently: 74m This year their at 115m. If they just matched that number, you're looking at roughly 40m in salary you can take on for 2017. Whoopie. The starting rotation would be set already: Sale Q Shields Rodon Gonzo The bullpen is lacking a few spots Robertson Jones Putnam Petricka Jennings The following spots are secured on the field 1B - Abreu 2B - Lawrie SS - Anderson 3B - Fraizer RF - Eaton LF - Melky That leaves us with a DH, CF, and C to find. You're also going to need at least two more bullpen peices - likely a long man and a lefty specialist. You've also gotta piece together your bench. Here goes nothing... Sign Encarnacion for DH. If you can't get him settle for Alverz or Morneau. Sign Cespedes for CF. If you can't get him settle for Trumbo in Right moving Eaton back to CF. Sign Ramos, Wieters, or Castro for C. Bottom line just to this point... You're going to need to increase payroll. For the bullpen, bring back Daniel Hudson in LR and slot Burdi in as well. Use Jones as your lefty specialist but just leave the f***er in for a couple more hitters since he can attack anyone. Give setup to Burdi unless Robertson sucks it up... Then flip em if appropriate. Bench Utl - Saladino C - Anyone OF - Jon Jay OF / IF / PR - L. Garcia Rotation: Sale, Quintana, Shields, Rodon, Gonzo Bullpen: Robertson, Burdi, Jones, Jennings, Putnam, Petrika, Hudson Lineup: 1.) Eaton - RF / CF 2.) Lawrie - 2B 3.) Cespedes / Trumbo - CF / RF 4.) Abreu - 1B 5.) Encarnacion / Alverz / Morneau- DH 6.) Melky - LF 7.) Fraizer - 3B 8.) Ramos / Weiters / Castro - C 9.) Anderson - SS Bench: Anyone ( C ), Saladno, Jay, L. Garcia Payroll would need to be around 140 to 150 IMO Anything short of this and they should sell. It's either raise payroll and fill ALL THE HOLES with big time above average upgrades... Or pack it in. If you wanna compete JR - then grab your f***ing balls and do whatever it f***ing takes. /hi8is drops mic

August 6th Game Thread: White Sox vs. Orioles
This has to be the worst white sox season in memory. Worse than 2012, 2014, and 2015. It's just gonna keep declining as well. All the injuries really are the nail in the coffin. Yuck.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) Dying during it would be the way to go. 100% agreed. That should be the new Kavorkian plan for all states in the world. Just allow you to fornicate with a perfect clone of your dream woman as your vitals are flatlining. Ok. This has gone too far.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 07:44 PM) He's getting there certainly. It's a shame because I like the guy. I've agreed with most of his moves they just haven't worked. It's getting to the point where I'm hoping they stood pat with the exception of the Duke trade because there's going to be sweeping changes. Wishful thinking but I'm hoping. Though it seems like wishful thinking - a little birdie told me that it could actually happen.

Sox are going to blow this, aren't they?
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 07:16 PM) I'm really hoping this is an offyear for him too. If only he would have been Mashing Abreu the first half...his bat could have carried the team out of that funk fast. We needed 2014 Abreu, 2014 Morneau, 2014 Robertson, a good bullpen, and better injury luck. Then we'd have the best record in baseball.

Yea, Narcos is legit. I do wonder if season 2 will see the light of day - considering the Escobar family is demanding a billion dollars and all.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) He didn't say it was a bust. Just the truth that it's one of the biggest contracts they've given out. Yup. I'm not calling Abreu a bust by any means. In fact, personally I believe he'll have a great second half and an even better next year. However, he IS the largest free agent we've ever signed. I know they were in on Cespedes, Gordon, Tanaka, Arod... But we never push the chips in to land the big fish. Either that's going to change eventually or we're always going to be muddled in the middle.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Your optimism is usually refreshing but I can't help but laugh at this post I'll believe it if... 1.) Abreu hits like 2014 Abreu for the rest of the year 2.) Avi hits over .285 / .330 / .500 for the rest of the year 3.) Fraizer hits over .260 / .330 / .500 for the rest of the year So... Yea... I won't believe it.

Reasonable Waiver Trade Cadidates
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 11:10 PM) Not trying to be pettie, just sensing an opportunity to buy low on a player. Check out this article about "Cutch" who is hitting a robust .241 this season, MCutcheon hitting .241 gets benched Yea - still -- ain't happenin

Reasonable Waiver Trade Cadidates
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 10:15 PM) *IF* Pittsburgh claimed Melky off waivers, what would it take to get McCutcheon, who they may be open to trading given the pretty severe fall off he has had this season? Or maybe that indicates he was on the juice last season? He was a .300 hitter last year and he was just benched for 3 games by Hurdle. They are in need of hitting and Melky, I think, could help them. If McCutcheon got back to his old form, he'd look great in our outfield. They're never ever ever EVER trading Cutch for Melky.

Sox Tigers game thread
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 07:23 PM) Actually with Tilson out and Austin Jackson apparently not coming back soon I would just start Avi in CF every game from here on out. Keep Eaton in RF where he excels and see how Avi does in center. I've heard some people claim that center field is actually easier to play for a lot of outfielders that struggle in the corners as long as they have the speed to cover the ground from gap to gap. Avi certainly struggles in RF and one thing he does have is speed. What could it hurt? At this point what's the difference if he's a butcher in RF or in CF? It sure would be fun to watch him play center - I could play clown themed circus music as a soundtrack to all his plays.

Sox are going to blow this, aren't they?
QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 09:30 PM) This is exactly the type of moves they have been making and then failing. Boosting people like Saladino into a full time role is entirely stupid. He is a great defensive backup. They need to go get a C, 1B/3B/DH and an OF. 3 good guys, not 3 scrubs, or bounce back candidates, 37+ year old veterans, backups who look like they could be good. If they can't do that, they need to tear it down and start over. They already have too many question marks as it is with everyone else in that lineup. No one has been truly consistent outside of Eaton the past few years. I have this creeping suspicion that things are not quite what they seem...

How much hope should we have for Anderson?

Tilson Recovering Well From Surgery
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) Sorry, been out of town visiting colleges with my daughter. Its never good having to do surgery for soft tissue injuries. One doctor I worked with described it as tying two pieces of spaghetti together. It doesn't bode well for a player who relies on speed for his game. He'll be ready for spring training but it's anyone's guess as to how well he'll be able to run and stay healthy again. Thanks mate and hope your travels went well.

Sox are going to blow this, aren't they?
It's pretty silly that Jose Abreu @ 68mm, John Danks @ 65mm, and Adam Dunn @ 56mm are the largest White Sox contracts ever. That should tell you everything you need to know about us signing "big" free agents in the future.
