4/30 GT White Sox @ Yankees - 6:05pm CDT - WCIU

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) The Pods talk is stupid. He wanted a multi year deal and I don't think one person on this board would of been willing to give it to him. I didn't. Sure, it would be nice to have him and what he is doing now vs. Pierre, but the circumstances prevented it. Move on. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) I might disagree, but the D-Backs owner is a major Republican donor in the state of AZ, the kind of guy who could have made a difference if he'd opposed the law. FWIW he released a statement saying he opposes the law (I'm sure it's not really based in any actual principle or belief though)

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) I have a good feeling about the Orioles this year. Holy s***, 4-18. lol. 13 games out and it's not even May yet, I didn't even know that was possible. I couldn't have been more wrong. But I mean what do you expect when you got guys like Adam Jones, Nolan Reimold and Brian Roberts with Dewayne Wise-like offensive numbers? And Tejada being average, and Wieters being average? Most of those guys are supposed to be dominating right now, not looking like potential DFA candidates.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) BP pays a huge dividend (>6%), despite the recent fall in share price, they are currently trading at around a 9 multiple. However, this can be VERY bad for them, as they will be on the hook for all the cleanup costs, and any/all fines incurred. This may decimate their stock as well as force them to cut that hefty dividend. Only time will tell. But as it stands right now, even if the stock goes down, if they don't slash that dividend, that's a 6% annual return, try finding that in any money market, savings account or CD. My dividends are re-invested since I never touch them. I actually shouldn't even really care about any of this because I'm not really touching those until I'm like 50, 60 years old.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 08:37 AM) I know a person who has a solar cell cell-phone charger. Made by Raytheon, even. They were giving them out to Caltech grads at job interviews. These weren't solar chargers though, just regular secondary batteries. Solar cell chargers would be pretty sweet, though.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) that's pretty much what we have. like it or not. Unfortunately. Actually you can vote out all of Congress and the executive branch and replace them with fresh politicians and within a few years everything would be back the way it is now.
-
Oh, something I found amusing. While I was shopping for cellphone chargers I saw some pretty blatant greenwashing. They were selling secondary chargers, the kind you charge and then plug in to charge your phone, but they were trying to market them as "green power" or "environmentally friendly" or some silly s***. I understand that the general public is made up of idiots, but geez, there's limits. You still have to plug the thing into the wall before you can use it!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) Keith, Re: your facebook question. Yes, the technology to prevent a blowout has improved. However, there are 2 things in this situation. First, BP supposedly wasn't using all of the automatic shutoff technology that is available and in use elsewhere. My guess is that it all isn't required by regulation, and thus some of it isn't installed there. Secondly, some of it has just seemingly flat-out not worked. There is supposed to be at least 1 shutoff system on there that they keep trying to trip using submersibles, but it just has failed. I haven't read anything in detail but it really looks like BP just f***ed up more than anything. It's a pretty bad time to be a BP shareholder though. s***.

I bet you make more money than me so I'd rather you pay my insurance

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) I'm telling you that people come here from Mexico because they have no opportunity in Mexico. Mexico is basically lawless. Their government provides nothing for them. And we want to turn them away. Are you telling me that the government of China is different from the government of Cuba? Communism is communism, right? But it's ok for us to do business with one country and not the other. China's communist in name only. Authoritarian, brutal, Orwellian yes, doctrinaire Marxism not so much. Still, I'm not convinced we shouldn't be trading with Cuba

George Washington ordered every able-bodied white male citizen to buy a musket + supplies at his own expense in 1792. Yes I know militias and the authority to raise an army are specifically laid out in the Constitution but it doesn't say specifically say the government has the authority to order citizens to buy private goods either. (Today all those things are paid for by the government with tax dollars but I bring that up to say, yes, Washington did things that the Constitution didn't specifically authorize, so did Jefferson.)

I could only imagine if I posted all my Facebook statuses while stoned.

Seconding everything said about Ace's mom.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:11 PM) Mexico has no interest in #2. They just export it to the US, and get the extra added bonus of them sending cash back home. It is a win-win. Yeah pretty much. I don't see any of those things changing anytime soon. 1 can be done, 3 maybe if we experimented with legalizing drugs, but that's not going to happen either.
-
This law seems like burying your head in the sand to me. All we need to do to stop illegal immigration is be tougher on the immigrants! America, f*** yeah, let's get urr jeibs back from them messi-cans!" This does nothing but put a particularly ugly shade of lipstick on a pig. If the following things are still going to happen... 1. American employers hire illegals (particularly for unregulated labor at low wages) 2. Mexico is unable or unwilling to control itself internally, reduce poverty, control drug trade, etc. 3. United States is unable or unwilling to curb demand FOR drugs coming from Mexico, which are the reason for drug wars in the first place Then illegals will keep coming and will continue to be a fact of life here in the U.S. and we are going to have trouble securing our own border.

I was telling a couple of Soxtalkers on FB today that the Capitals coach looks like Mikhail Gorbachev. -
If you want me to answer the question and show how it's different from yours and why I think I'm right, I have to know how you'd define that idea.
-
Well, define "general welfare" I guess.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) Mark's ERA = 4.68 Peavy's ERA = 7.66 (before tonight) 4.68 is mediocre and even moreso if we are talking about since Opening Day, not sure what you're trying to say. I gave no indication at all that Peavy hasn't been complete and utter s*** for us so far.
-
Buehrle has been mediocre at best this year since that Opening Day gem, and he's kind of getting a pass on it while fans are reaming Peavy every time he goes out there, calling him a bust, etc.
-
QUOTE (longshot7 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) I get along with them much better now, but I was banned for saying once that I supported the use of steroids and believed it made the game better. That is still my opinion, btw. Yeah, you took a little flaming for that, but here the thought of banning you for saying that wouldn't even come up.
-
I bet you unions wish they had half the political clout you guys give them credit for.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) Report: CA Voters Tricked Into Registering As Republicans With Pot Petition What is the point of this? You can trick me into registering Republican but it doesn't make me any more likely to vote Republican come election day than I already am. If anything it makes me less likely. Then when I figure it out I just change it back to Democrat or Unaffiliated (whatever the unaligned category is called in CA).

"The future of Vinny del Negro in Chicago is cloudy." lol no. About as cloudy as a bright, warm day in June. VDN is done.

You know, I'm actually shocked that they didn't call that an offensive foul on Rose.
