  1. Jim Rice also almost won a triple crown. Paul Konerko ahaha I remember at the 2002 All Star Game one of the announcers called PK a "legitimate triple crown threat". Oh man that gets funnier every day.
  2. Also they proved the value of a balanced line up... Agreed. They are winning now and Sammy is NOT hitting that many homeruns. Their lineup has also been without Corey Patterson since the All Star Break. What that tells me is it's important to have guys like Grudzielanek in there who just get on base and kill you with their two out hits. Granted he is having a career year but it seems like most of the Cubs are under Dusty Baker. I love Dusty Baker but I have to hate him because he is a Cub. Also, Phillies will not be in the playoffs this year. Go Florida!
  3. A championship in the minors does not = one in the bigs. Just like performance in the minors doesn't = the same in the bigs. This club needs ML experience. I believe Backman was on the '86 Mets. I also agree that catchers tend to be students of the game more than any other position player. I think a guy like Girardi would make a great manager. Look what Scoscia and Pena have managed to do in relatively short tenures as managers. It says alot about catchers, too bad we have completely alienated Carlton Fisk.
  4. One of us is gonna have to because the White Sox are afraid to throw a frickin ball at AJ or Dougie.
  5. I still say give Daubach a chance. He had some good years with regular playing time and I would like to see him/Frank at 1B next year with Konerko's ass out of here. Konerko has really become a lovable loser this year. Maybe we wait til Konerko has one of his good first halfs and then trade him for some quality pitching in 2004.
  6. These guys have enjoyed the Jerry Manuel regime. Of course there will be a mutiny if Backman comes in because Backman rewards performance and gets his teams to hustle. I know if I were a lazy millionaire I would be a little worried if my company was hiring a new ballbuster as my manager. By the way other names: Tony LaRussa - staying in St. Louis according to Gammons and StL front office Larry Dierker - been mentioned before I'm not sure if he's still seeking employment Larry Rothschild - is currently coaching the best strikeout staff in the majors, may not want to leave Clint Hurdle, Bobby Valentine, Jim Leyland, Jeff Torborg. In the end there's really no reason to expect someone other than Backman at this point.
  7. Gammons says nicely what we've been thinking all year. He says Sox need to find someone that is "a little tougher um... a little stronger...". Meanwhile Bobby V. plugs Wally Backman to take over the helm.
  8. Agreed. The past 2 years we could always blame the pitching. This year finally exposed the huge holes in the "best lineup in the league".
  9. Where is the none of the above option?
  10. Is that the guy who yells" SEeeeeeeeeeee Ya" when somebody hits ahomerun. I heard the call yesterday on sportscenter. Oh, and Kerry Wood has 10 Ks and a no hitter through 5. Cubs winning 1-0..... Astros losing early too. The end truly is near.
  11. On broadcast last night they said the Sox and Yankees have become the 2nd and 3rd teams in ML history to hit 200HRs four seasons in a row. I would gladly trade all those homeruns for a playoff berth this year. Would Frank trade his 40/100 for one? I don't know.
  12. I would gladly pay for Sosa's plane ticket outta here.
  13. At least Sox fans don't believe in cursed Billy Goats or Bambinos.
  14. It depends on how you slide. Also if anything it makes the call alot tougher on the umpire because you kick up dirt and he doesn't get that THUD of you stepping on the bag. Not sure if it's faster tho.
  15. I heard we are playing the NL East again next year even though we just did in 2002. Hawk said something about visiting Shea Stadium next year.
  16. This team was also all smiles in the dugout when we were playing NY and the game was still tied 3-3. Where was that energy and enthusiasm in Minnesota? It's almost like these guys play better when they're out of it.
  17. Four days rest is normal rest for guys in a five man rotation.
  18. Now I'm not sure about this but I think that Jerry Manuel and Dick Jauron went to the same coaching school.
  19. I just don't like how DJ is developing his style just like Hawk's. He uses almost that entire list of Hawkisms on a daily basis now and it just doesn't work with DJ. Hawk has got that Country Grammar Drawl going while DJ just always sounds a little feisty. I think he should try to sound more natural up there instead of becoming the next Hawk Harrelson.
  20. Halladay's name should be the first on the petition for MLB to take a serious look at the quality of its umpiring. I don't remember who it was but the ump during one of the Cubs/Cards games a while back was pissing me off too. I'm not a Cubs fan but every time a player struck out looking and walked away unhappy the ump would take off his mask and start following him to the dugout. These confrontational umps have no place in baseball. I don't think any of the other sports has problems like this with their officials.
  21. A good half does not make a good season. See 2001-2003 White Sox.
  22. Overall this team will finish strong on the 2nd half. Next year we'll all have hopes and people will say "look how well this team played in the 2nd half last year". Same as at the start of 2003 same as at the start of 2002. Only if JM's ass is outta here will I have any hope of a strong start in 2004.
  23. Maggs hit his first career walkoff HR tonight. Hopefully this will teach him a thing or two about hitting in the clutch. Then again it was a first-pitch meatball off of Jeff Weaver. Ok so I don't really wanna trade Maggs. Get rid of Konerko, I'm done with him. Maggs may not show alot of heart but he doesn't make weak excuses when he fails.
  24. MAGGS finally learns to hit in the clutch a little too late but Congrats on your first career walkoff HR. Also a big push towards another 30 HR 100RBI season hopefully.
  25. Konerko learned from the great Frank Thomas. Blame everything on anything or anyone besides yourself.
