  1. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Jan 3, 2018 -> 04:04 PM) It’s been a few hours since I listened, but I think he picked him as most likely to make a big jump next year. Not necessarily liked him best long term. Maybe that was implied, but I think there’s a difference. It was a good listen. No, his comment about Sheets was that he is the most likely of that group to be a big leaguer. Said that while Adolfo has the highest ceiling, Sheets has the highest floor.
  2. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 3, 2018 -> 06:17 AM) Miss the OOTP days. Had some good times with a few here (Slav, wite, heads, steve, dbaho, badger, zoom, etc) with that. Have an itch to do it again myself. I jumped in on South Side Sox's BMO league at one point, but it only last a few seasons after I joined because I was very good (college kid w/ incredible time on my hands) and IIRC I won the WS 3 years in a row after I took over the lowly Giants.
  3. Who will weigh more by their official spring training measurements..... Burger or Schwarber? Current 2017 B/R pages... Schwarber - 6'0", 235 lbs Burger - 6'2", 210 lbs Schwarber apparently lost 20 pounds this offseason.
  4. Is this a "real life" fantasy league, or a baseball simulation like like OOTP or BMO? I've been really interested in doing the latter again.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 1, 2018 -> 04:01 PM) Wow, I put a good 10 to 15 hours into Mafia 3 before I just gave up on it. The story was phenomenal, but the gameplay was beyond atrocious. Hopefully it was all worth it in the end. I didn't mind the game play, it was just really repetitive. When I say I like the story I mean the characters and the overall premise. The missions were really repetitive. And I too gave up on the game many months ago, but then decided that before I start Watch Dogs 2, I wanted to finish Mafia 3, since Mafia 3 may have a tie-in with Red Dead Redemption 2.
  6. Finally finished Mafia 3. Big fan of the story. I liked how you could choose your own ending. Trying to dig in to WatchDogs 2, but man, there are SOOO many buttons and controls that I am terrified to even engage in fights because I can't remember all the ways I'm supposed to get through the level/puzzle.
  7. QUOTE (Soha @ Jan 1, 2018 -> 03:42 AM) I think everyone would understand that if she had a terrifying 2-3 minute fight with him, that it probably felt like an hour. Everyone who isn't trying to discredit her, yeah
  8. My girlfriend's iPhone 6 is pretty much killing itself. First it started slowly deleting all it's content, and every app she opened crashed. Then Apple ID all together stopped working and logging out/in didn't help, it kept says her password was wrong. After changing her password failed, she did a reset on the settings, then logged back in. Her phone started to repopulate itself and apps worked. But her app store didn't. Then her top info bar of the phone went away. Then the camera app stopped working, then constant freezing, and now it's shut itself down and won't turn on. Obviously Apple f***s with their older phones on purpose, but I am thinking this is way too extreme to be sabotage. She's seriously considering switching to the Pixel 2 because "it's cute", and I sincerely hope she does. Would make fixing her phone problems so much easier.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) She has stated that she trains as a boxer. My assumption is that she is likely in very good shape. When adrenaline kicks in, people can also do surprising things. I don't see any reason she couldn't have fended him off for 10 minutes. I didn't mean that she couldn't fend him off, I mean that is was a 10 minute long struggle. That's a LONG time to be jostling with someone. It obviously doesn't change the story/outcome, but it was likely more like 1-3 minutes and potentially exaggerating some details will lead the defense/Sano's team to say she exaggerated other things too.
  10. I don't believe that she fended him off for "about 10 minutes", but if the rest of it is true, she's really lucky he didn't try any harder because that is a massive man. Really a terrifying account to visualize reading her words. Was glad to see Plouffe's response on twitter.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 27, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) I don't think it will be that hard, though in the actual fan graphs podcast it definitely sounded like Kiley would be focused on prospects but would be basically allowed to do what he wanted. But it seemed like the lead prospect writer was a hell of a lot of work especially with team lists, so I think there is plenty of work to go around there. One thing that was interested in the podcast was an anecdote he gave about how the scouts ranked this guy in the 2nd-3rd round, but kept showing up around 10-12 in mock drafts. Kiley pointed out that there was some advanced stat and those teams typically focused hard on those in the past. It was hard to tell if he threw 10-12 out as a random set, but sox were in that. Though we were always mock drafted more closely with Kendall and college pitchers than ever with Burger. I did wonder if it was us because I heard a lot of our selections came from teams that had stat cast data (wake forest/louisville?) I could be way off. I believe Kylie was referring to Trackman, and yes, the Sox did take a few guys from teams that use Trackman.
  12. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) I like eric with carson. Eric is obviously a very straightforward kind of person who is kind of different from most of their writers but with Carson he actually has some funny moments. If I was eric I would hate that they got Kiley back. Obviously Kiley is good but eric did a good job and I can't imagine two people doing it together. I hope kiley will do some other stuff and leave eric alone with the prospect stuff or eric probably won't be there too long. Give one the AL and one the NL.
  13. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 06:11 PM) Not to be too pedantic, but drafts aren’t additive. Each year players either stay in the minors, go to the majors, or leave our system. Players age, so it’s incorrect to think a draft supplements a system. It can if the additions are better than what leaves, but it can also make it worse All players in the majors and minors are in our "system". A draft only doesn't add to our system if we trade our guys or they flame out. I don't see us trading guys, and they are all too young to flame out. Besides, we have the 4th pick. We gain more talent from the 2018 draft class, theoretically, than most teams.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 06:36 PM) I can agree with this, the guy should have probably toned it down some, but to boycott the product over this one dude’s comments is pretty absurd to me. Me on the otherhand will happily $4/month to gain ad-free to their great stable of writers & local content. Boycott? I just choose not to support them. I don't care if other people do, that's just fine. But I have no interest in them after those comments. No big deal.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 08:10 AM) How is that bad press? Isn’t he simply explaining his business model? Because typically acting like a blood thirsty c*** isn't well received. Their content might be awesome, good for them, but those c***y comments about how everyone else sucks and they want them to all die turned me off of ever supporting them.
  16. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 12:42 AM) ? Quotes from their co-founder... “We will wait every local paper out and let them continuously bleed until we are the last ones standing,” Alex Mather, a co-founder of The Athletic, said in an interview in San Francisco. “We will suck them dry of their best talent at every moment. We will make business extremely difficult for them.” and about blogs... “In a city like Chicago, there are 100,000 die-hard fans,” Mather said. “That is a very lucrative subscription business. There are over 100,000 die-hard fans of Chicago teams outside of Chicago,” he added, and he says they aren’t served well. “Bleacher Report is empty calories. SB Nation is empty calories. The newspapers are doing nothing.” If you follow SouthSideSox on twitter, you will have seen their username was "Empty Calories" for a while.
  17. The bad press they had recently makes me want to stay away from ever paying for The Athletic.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) Are you planning to eventually watch Episodes 1 through 3 for the first time? Ha, nice.
  19. Let's revisit this trade in a year, when his trade value is lower, and the Sox might actually be ready to compete, and we also have a new batch of 2018 draftees to better supplement our system.
  20. Converted from catcher to pitcher and he throws gas? OH I SEE YOU RICK.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) Ok, that was the entire point. It's also not the part of your argument that I was questioning, but whatever, it doesn't matter anymore anyway.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 10:34 PM) Which is very much NOT Giolito, Hansen, and Robert. Right? Totally agree.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Rumors on twitter that G. Cole to Pirates is possibly gonna happen. Have to assume Cutch is traded then if Frazier is included. In general, I'm surprised at how little activity has been rumored for WSox besides Manny "Yankees get Cole in their stocking". How many times will this get used? 5 times? 10?
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) This was actually very solid media work, and not spineless kiss ass drivel like we usually get. While he did immediately come out combative and it was a bit unsettling, he is right to grill Manfred about his apparent lack of foresight to see Jeter strip this team down. But on the other side of that, like Manfred said, it's not really his concern what a team does with their payroll, as long as it appears to be for the betterment of the franchise in the long term. That part of it is assumed, but obviously up for debate.
