  1. I liked Lone Survivor MUCH better than American Sniper. It's not even close in my opinion. And speaking of Mark Wahlberg movies, I watched The Gambler tonight. It was a decent movie, but not great.
  2. 12 Monkeys TV premiere was.....confusing I'd say. I'm going to read some reviews and then watch Ep. 2 and see if it makes a little more sense. Not sure I like them changing Brat Pitt's character to a girl though.
  3. Of the 3 major lists each year (And now Fangraph's would make 4), I would expect Rodon and Anderson to make every top 100, and then Montas or Adams or both to sneak in to the end of at least 1 list.
  4. I would bet Sale gets #5, and Abreu gets #4. Melky #6, Robertson #8.
  5. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) Whoops didn't realize it was just position guys. But he does say that is 15 of the his top 20, maybe Rodon but doubt anyone else from that draft class is above him. It's also in alphabetical order. Even still, I can't believe Schwarber is even a top 50 guy, honestly. Yeah, he's got a very polished bat, but he was playing way below his talent level in 2014, and his defense is suspect. He's more than likely a future 1B and we've yet to see his bat against real minor league pitching. He's an extreme helium guy right now.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 1m1 minute ago Jung-ho kang pirates deal is official. 4 years plus team option. Believed worth $11M plus. 4 yrs/$11M??? So a total commitment of 4 yrs and $16M so far? Uggggggh.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 05:48 AM) If Jose Abreu said that about the Sox, this board would be giddy. What is the kid supposed to say? I wouldn't be. I hate when players make claims like that, especially when it's a longshot. It just adds pressure to that player and it leaves them wide open to criticism as well when it doesn't happen. Remember in 2010 when Chris Johnson said he was going to rush for 2500 yards? He didn't even reach 1500 that season, and he hasn't reached even 1250 yards in a year since. Not saying it had something to do with it, but I just hate when athletes make such bold claims about their teams. It never works out in their favor because we already assume everyone believes that "this year will be our year", but when you say it WILL happen, you are more than likely going to just look foolish.
  8. I really hope Micah starts the season in AAA. I think 2B is going to be Bonafacio's job, and I want to see Micah get full reps versus just a bench role. Prior to Bonafacio signing, I was pulling for Micah to win the 2B job, but now I think that's just not happening unless we see an injury in the spring and Bon has to take over that position. Hopefully that situation doesn't come up and Micah can be completely ready to go for 2016 in the majors.
  9. Teuvo with a his 1st career goal tonight! I admittedly don't know much about Corsi, but someone, possibly Committed Indian, tweeted prior to that goal that Teuvo had the highest Corsi rating of the game up until that point. He's getting better and more comfortable every game.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) This sounds great. I'm subscribing. Let us know what episode you listened to and what you thought.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Sleep away camp is craziness. My cousin and I watched that when I was like 8 and she was 11. The, um, adult part was pretty confusing and my aunt was a little bit pissed that it was rented I don't want to spoil it for others, but that reveal at the end doesn't even make sense once you remember that after the boating scene,
  12. Does anyone listen to podcasts? If so, I highly suggest a podcast called "How did this get made?". It's hosted by Paul Scheer (Andre from The League), Jason Manzoukas (Raffi from The League), and June Raphael (Paul's wife, female comedian). Basically they get together and watch terrible movies, and then record a podcast completely tearing apart the movie. It's hilarious. I just listened to their 100th episode which they reviewed the Arnold and Danny DeVito movie "Junior". But the episode I implore you all to listen to is the episode on an 80's horror movie called "Sleepaway Camp". One of the weirdest and funniest twist endings to a movie I've ever seen. As I listened to the podcast, I was skimming through the full movie which is on Youtube. The scenes were just as terrible and they described them, and the ending really has to be seen to do the commentary justice. I'll never forget that image in the final scene of that movie. 13. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) Bruce Levine? It didn't have a writer attached to it
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) Didn't he hit something like .220 last year? That's even worse than Flowers. Yes, obviously batting average isn't everything, but Castro only had one decent hitting season. The reason I take Castro over Flowers is because Castro had a fantastic 2013. His walk rate was good, his K rate was decent, 18 HR, hit for decent average, he was a 4.3 WAR guy. We KNOW he is capable of that kind of season. We've never seen that out of Flowers before. This was the first time Flowers hit above .213, and his K rate is astronomical. I'd say Castro is the better bet going forward, even if he had a down year. Also, since catcher framing has been mentioned a lot recently, Castro was 15th best last year, out of 113 catchers.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) Now You See Me could have been better, but they played it off like the only authorities that existed were Mark Ruffalo and the Interpol girl. I laughed when they pulled off all these heists in plain sight and were nationally wanted criminals but yet they could set up elaborate stage performances. Oh hey, and they were able to deposit millions of dollars in people's accounts no big deal I hated that we were just supposed to believe that this guy would spend his entire life rising up the ranks for a highly competetive job just to exact revenge. I haven't seen the movie in a couple years, but couldn't he have just worked his way up to be a driver of that armored vehicle? Wasn't that the lynchpin in the entire plan?
  16. Saw The Judge tonight. Great, great movie. A lot sadder and more emotional than I thought it would be, but I highly recommend it.
  17. I actually got a BREAKING NEWS alert from The Score this morning to tell me Rizzo's quote on making the playoffs. I'm not even kidding.
  18. Did I just read that Spencer Adams was "nothing special last year"?? In 41 innings, he struck out 59 batters and only walked 4. I can't even do that in my Road To The Show career. That's a 14.75 K/BB rate. That's unbelievable, and a little more than just special.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 06:41 AM) Tyler Flowers was tied for #12 in MLB in WAR by catcher last season (2.3) fWAR, always use fWAR.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 07:35 PM) Her old doppelganger is Lip's rich g/f on Shameless. And still believe "Safety Not Guaranteed" is one of the coolest movies of all-time that very few have ever seen or heard much about. I don't agree with that at all. Aubrey Plaza has always been a babe though. Not in the traditional sense though. I fell in love with her in Mystery Team, which is a highly underrated and largely unknown comedy by Donald Glover and his sketch comedy group "Derrick Comedy".
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) I see what you did there. ^^^ This guy gets jokes.
  22. Anyone know if that Sabermetrics joke on Parks and Rec was brand new this season? I haven't seen any links to say otherwise.
  23. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 05:34 AM) No he doesn't and I'm far from a Flowers fan. He's pretty much average MAYBE a tad below. This isn't Salty/Castillo were talking about here. You're right, out of 113 catchers, he was ranked 90th. So technically he was not the worst, but he's still far below average. Rene Rivera ranked 5th best, out of 113.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 07:42 AM) Thats been around for a couple seasons I think. I don't think so, unless everyone else just noticed it too because it was all over twitter last night.
  25. I think we have plenty of 4th OF candidates, I'm not sure I would take add another to the fray versus upgrading at C, 3B, or 2B. I'm actually good with 2B right now because I want to see what we have in Micah, Sanchez, and Bonafacio. At 3B we have Conor who did a decent job over there, just needs to shore up his defense and he could be an average major league 3B. What I want to upgrade the most at is catcher. Flowers is a pretty awful offensive player outside of having decent power for a catcher. A 5.7 % walk rate isn't good, but a 36% K-rate is just horrific. Adam Dunn, king of the Ks, never struck out 36% of the time even once in his career. Flowers has done it twice in 3 seasons of 50+ games. And Flowers grades as one of the worst pitch-framers in baseball as well. He's 29 years old and he's not good at all. Hell, Rene Rivera who was involved in that giant Wil Myers deal would have even been a nice piece for the Sox to get. They just acquired Jaso in the Zobrist deal, and they already have young catcher Curt Casali and one of their top prospects Justin O'Connor coming up through the system, so who knows, maybe Rivera could be flipped over to the Sox for someone like Carlos Sanchez and Chris Beck. Robinson Chirinos is another catcher who had a nice half season who may be an interesting low profile pick up. Although Texas doesn't really have another option at catcher until Alfaro is ready, which may be 1 more year away. I don't know what his defense is like, but they have a backup named Tomas Telis who is 23-years-old, a switch hitter, and hit .318 across AA and AAA last year while not striking out. Maybe they'd move either of those 2 guys knowing that Alfaro could make one of them irrelevant in a year or two. Maybe we throw them Brantly to fill their back up role. I don't know, I'm just spitballing here at 3:30 in the morning, but I really feel the most uncomfortable about our catching position. We've seen Flowers for parts of 4 years now and he does not deserve a starting spot anymore than Viciedo does at this point. And we were able to solve that problem.
