2014 Fantasy Football Thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Frank Gore is absolutely killing my team. I'm finally going to sit him next week in favor of either Charlie Sims, Tre Mason, or if I can pull off a trade, Arian Foster. With all the Tony Romo injuries, I'm trying to dump both Romo and Dez Bryant or Terrance Williams on someone because god forbid Brandon Weeden gets more playing time, all those players will be useless. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) Ever think of it this way: He's in a game and makes a fantastic catch falling into the stands. His adrenaline pumping, the guy also knows there's a runner potentially out to dry or tagging up. He is 100% focused on getting up and putting the ball back into the infield. He accidentally pushes his feet off a fan in the process of getting caught up in a moment. Yeah, I don't think he kicked that guy at all. He was squirming over the wall and his cleat caught the guy's shirt, you can see him even look back to find out what he caught his foot on, and the fan didn't get mad like he had just been yelled at or kicked on purpose. I don't think there was anything wrong with what happened there at all. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 10:39 PM) And who here is willing to give up Tim Anderson for Blackmon? Montas? Because that will be the asking price...not 2-3 "second tier" guys like Beck, Sanchez and Trayce Thompson cobbled together into a package. I'd absolutely swap Montas for Blackmon, but not Anderson. Blackmon, even in his breakout year, was only a 2.0 WAR. That's just about league average. He had a bad 2nd half to the season, and he hit 90 pts better at home than away (.330 vs. .240). I think I'd prefer Stubbs skillset, but Blackmon is lefthanded and controlled for 4 more years, while Stubbs only has 1 year left. It's kind of a toss-up in my mind, unless we can offer Stubbs an extension of something like 3 yrs/$30M or something.

Love the Rockies for offering the QO to Cuddyer. Assuming he accepts, this makes my idea of acquiring Stubbs even more possible.

2014 Minor League catch all thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Kiley McDaniel's extension prospect list for the Sox should be coming out soon. He put the Cubs one out like 2 weeks ago and the Sox are on deck. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) It's incredibly annoying already. I cant even count how many times I've heard him referred to as the best manager in baseball in the last week. If I could have any manager in baseball, it would be Joe Maddon. That being said, I still realize how little influence managers have. They basically acquired the best bench player in baseball. Yeah, he's the best at what he does, but what he does is pretty small in the grand scheme of things.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) New 4th OF? Sierra and Taylor gone, want some competition for Danks I guess. Both LHB OFs, but Shuck is high contact and OBP with low power, kind of the opposite of Danks. Stats put him as an average-ish defender on the corners, has barely played CF in the majors. Unless they think he can handle CF pretty well defensively, I'm not sure I get this move. Defensive metrics absolutely loved him last season in the corner OF spots, but you're right, we don't have much info on his CF defense. He seems like a nice 4th OF to have though. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) So...$1.6M left is very good here? None of these big names out right now are going to sign for $1.6M. Any notable guy we get will push us in to the penalty, so we may as well just blow right past the limitations and bank on an INT'L draft coming in the next 2 years while we are under sanctions. -
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 01:12 PM) Be careful hosting a shareplay request with strangers. Read a post on the Destiny subReddit about a player who messaged another player in the Tower "Hey man Lmao, what assholes. But I'm sure you can take back control of the game if you need to, right? There has got to be that option.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) I wouldn't be giving up montas that easily. Pitching this year has been really good besides the injury that he lost sometime to. Don't know if anyone watched the Arizona fall league stars game on Saturday but he pitched 2 scoreless innings. The guys is pretty much a bartolo colon spitting image with physical appearance and the way he throws the ball. He is a really big dude. He hit 102 mph at one point. Pretty good off speed stuff. Pretty much needs to harness his fast ball command cause he did get a little wild. Plus he is rated the 3rd best prospect for the sox right now behind rodon and anderson. Even if he can't fully make it as a starter he would be a really good reliever. I think you're confusing "Montas sucks" with "He's good, but not worth keeping if it means we can get Jay Bruce back". I like Montas. I love his arm. I just don't think you gamble with a guy who MAY end up in the bullpen when you could be getting a guy like Jay Bruce back in return. There is a big difference in value if he ends up as a starter, or ends up as a reliever. I'm not willing to place his value at the highest end of that teeter-totter and have it cost us a chance to get Bruce. That's just my opinion. If people here want to think he's untouchable, so be it, but you'll never convince me he's not worth a guy like Jay Bruce, not at this stage in Montas' development.

I thought it was very exciting, but maybe that's because I already knew the 3 hour event would be 2 hours and 45 minutes of bulls***. So we had the thing DVR'd and watched the actual 10 minutes of walking in between periods of the Hawks game. This stunt was MILES better than his Niagara stunt where he had a harness. That's bulls*** to do it with a harness. Obviously walking across Niagara is/was harder than Chicago, but without the possibility of death, there is little reason for me to be excited and nervous and scared when I watch it. Last night I was actually nervous for him and found it suspenseful.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 08:05 PM) Money. Seriously. It's the only reason people risk their lives.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 05:53 PM) The only guy in the minors with a higher ceiling than Montas in our system is Rodon. He isn't as finished of a product as the other guys, but you can't teach the arm he has. But he is the biggest question mark of the four to stay in the rotation. If he was a no doubt starter with that arm, then that'd be awesome, but he seems more like a power reliever and there is no minor league reliever I would ever covet over a good position player.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) Share play is awesome. Played my friend in a game of NBA2k the other night. He doesn't have the game and it worked flawlessly on both ends. I'm really itching to try this out, but everytime I see a friend online, they are watching Netflix.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) Well, Bruce is a better outfielder and does have very good numbers prior to the 2014 season ( despite striking out alot) but I'm just not willing to wager Montas on Bruce turning it around and regaining his old form. Bruce very well could have just had a down year, I'm just not willing to take the chance at the expense of Montas. Bruce and Viciedo aren't even close to the same player. Bruce is only 27 years old. I'd bet it's a down year way before I'd think he suddenly forgot how to hit entering his prime. If he was like 32 or 33, you could argue he's getting old and may be set for a decline. But at 27, I'd put money on just a down year. Also, I think you guys are overrating Montas a bit here. He's probably our 4th best pitching prospect at this point. I'd put Rodon, Danish and Spencer Adams all above him (Not now, but ceiling wise). I'd gladly give up that and a utility infielder for a guy who could be an all-star again very soon.

Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in The Diamond Club
I would love to have V-Mart, but I'd want to make sure him and Sale are good before I invite that situation in to my lockerroom. -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) I'm with ya. If I'm trading Montas it sure as hell won't be for a player that batted .217, 18HR and 149K's. I don't care what the players track record is. Montas and Sanchez would be a massive discount for a player like Bruce. He had 1 bad year, but that's exactly why would't want to buy low on him now rather than any previous year when he was an all-star player every year. Sanchez isn't a player we will ever miss. He's just a throw in. Montas, while he does has a power arm, has trouble repeating his motion and after watching him in the AFL, I can see him becoming a power reliever. You trade a reliever and a utility IF for a guy like Bruce 8 days a week. I'd argue the Reds wouldn't even accept a deal like that considering neither Montas nor Sanchez are top prospects.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
After what we saw from Weeden today, all those second guessers can politely shut the f*** up about saying he should have finished the game last week. He's terrible. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) Did the Brewers get your house as part of their deal for Lind? I wouldn't give the Brewers anything in that trade with the Blue Jays. EDIT: Now I see not even 10 minutes after this thread was made the the Brewers are getting Lind. I'll change my player then.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) If Montes de Oca was so good, he would of gotten drafted in the first 10 rounds. He's in high school and has had arm issues already. You don't pass on a guy like Rodon because of money issues. No, BECAUSE Montes De Oca was so good, he didn't get drafted in the first 10 rounds.

If you had to bet everything you had on 2 deals the Sox would make this season, 1 being a player they sign, 1 being a player they acquire through trade, what would those 2 moves be? Not the deal you want the most (signing Shields maybe?), but the 2 moves you see the most likely to happen. -- Sign Brandon McCarthy. (3 yrs/$39M) Need some depth after Sale, Quintana, and Rodon, and McCarthy was drafted and came up w/ the Sox, maybe he'd like to come home. He'd be a nice #3-#4 starter. -- Trade for Jay Bruce (Carlos Sanchez and Frank Montas) He will be a nearly-28-year-old lefty OF coming off his worst season of his career. I'm hoping that given the Reds slew of OF top prospects, they may be fine dealing Bruce. Bruce is a .250+, 30 HR bat who has actually been a very good defensive RF over his career. He is also signed at a decent contract if you assume he can bounceback from his 2014 season. He is set to make $12M in 2015, $12.5M in 2016, and has a $13M team option for 2017. He has easily been worth those figures in every other season in his career. He is a player I think the Sox could really use.

IMO, playoff experience only matters in a manager/coaching staff. They need to know how to use their players in those situations, especially the pitchers.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 04:05 PM) 6 or 7 times? Yikes. When mine was a pup, 3 times at most. Now at 4, usually twice. Only 6 or 7 times a day would be amazing right now, especially in this weather.
