  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 10:29 PM) He's not a Rodgers/Manning/Luck, but he can win a Super Bowl with a good team which he hasn't had before, but might now. People love to hate him because the media loves the Cowboys but I would take him over Cutty anyday I don't know if I've said this here or at another sports forum, but I put Romo at the top of the 2nd tier of QBs, in the same grouping as Rivers and Matt Ryan, but not in the top tier of Rodgers, Manning, Brady (barely hanging on), Luck, and Brees.
  2. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) I dont doubt that there were missed calls over the course of the game but the play in question was indeed a penalty. I'm not circling those wagons again, I'm just giving HH more to chew on.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) You're right, I don't trust it. And even if I did, I wouldn't do it. That's a clown move for a 74 win team to trade good prospects for 1 year of a good player who's in his mid 30s and experiencing decline in production. this org is also still thin on pitching. It's getting better, quickly, but it's still thin. And, yes let's be that organization that values its prospects and demands fair return for them, versus an organization that trades them for middle relievers and mediocre veterans. I think you are misunderstanding the conversation. I don't WANT Zobrist. I mean I do, but I don't want to have to trade for him because of what I expressed I am assuming it would cost to acquire him. I'd take him for a lot less, but I don't think a lot less would be enough. I would not give up Montas, Sanchez, and Beck for him, I am just speculating what the asking price may be.
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Cespedes is very overrated. Absolutely.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 07:42 PM) Yes, they got lots of their patented no calls when FSU was not called for holding at least 5 or six times when Winston was scrambling. Just to stoke the fire even more, Mike Peirrera (sp?) also tweeted out that FSU got away with 12 men on the field during that big final drive at the end of the game.
  6. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 08:05 PM) Also, earlier this year some folks scoffed at me when I suggested Romo might not be a horrible QB... People love to get caught up in the narrative of "Tony Homo", and forget the fact that he's been a really good QB for his entire career. He's a top 10 QB nearly every season consistently.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 07:21 PM) You're f***ed. Actually, I just noticed I got a few points late from another player late, so I am actually up by 2 pts. But still Gore has 1 pt at halftime. I hate this season. Calvin, Vernon Davis, Frank Gore, all busts so far for one reason or another. Looks like playing Wes Welker over Terrance Williams or Sanu would have been the better move this week.
  8. QUOTE (kev211 @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) The call was right. It just should've been overlooked in that situation. Let the players decide the game. Yep. Like I apparently posted when I was wasted last night, refs had too much influence. Nothing those receivers/CBs involved did on that play changed the outcome. Refs often overlook or don't call that play, so you hate to see it at the very end to change the outcome.
  9. Once again, it's up to Frank Gore for my team. Had that Dez Bryant TD dive not been called back, I'd be sitting pretty good. Instead it comes down to Gore vs. Foster, down by 2 pts.
  10. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) Lol and? I assume he's saying Zobrist and Gordon's WARs are inflated over Abreu's because they have better players around them.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 10:50 PM) OK, nobody ever gets to complain about ND getting all the calls after that. Don't even try that around here. Way too many ND haters here (and everywhere, really) for you to get anything but ganged up on and laughed at. Just hope ND wins out the rest of the year and gets a chance to win a rematch game without the refs having that much influence on the final score.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) you give up that package for a player in the mid 20's. Let's not be THOSE fans who overrate our prospects so heavily. Montas is the ONLY guy who MAY wind up in the BACK of a top 100 list. Beck and Sanchez are dime a dozen prospects. Montas took big strides, but he is still 1 more great season away from being a consensus top 100 guy.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) More? More for a 33 year old .749 OPS with 1 year left on contract? The trade as listed would horrendous - Worse than the first Swisher trade. No reaching and no trading of top prospects, especially for aging veterans. Like I said, it sounds awful when you don't accept that fact that he has the 2nd highest WAR total in baseball since his first full season in the bigs. That's from 2009 through 2014, the ONLY player in baseball who has been better is Miguel Cabrera, and not by much. He ranks better than Cano, Longoria, McCutchen, Beltre, Votto, Pedroia, Tulo, Pujols, etc. Would you not give up 3 prospects who may not even be listed as top 100 prospects for one of those guys for 1 year coming off an MVP season, even at age 33? I think because it's Ben Zobrist and not one of those names above, we feel we don't trust it.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 07:02 AM) The player De Aza was for us from 2011 to 2013, is not the player he is today. A lot of his value was tied to his ability to play a solid CF, which is no longer the case. He's now a platoon corner OF, which has some value since he represents the strong half and provides very good range. But let's not use history to gauge his value now, because he's no longer the same player. He actually got higher defensive ratings in 2014 when he played LF/RF than he did in 2012-2013 when he played CF, and the corner OF spots give less of a defensive boost.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) oh man you are killing me, that is my #2 - 4 favorite pick. good hitting tools, at the cape this summer, showed that he could hit for power, more walks than strikeout. oh well, that is my cross to bear. I've had Ian Happ, Daz Cameron, and Brendan Rogers right at the top of my want list with Carson Fulmer.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 12:34 AM) http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2014/09...h-table-setter/ Argument for zobrist in lf....makes sense Ben Zobrist is such an unfathomably weird advanced metric player. He puts up the craziest WAR totals and it never quite seems right. He is like the Javier Vazquez of position players when it comes to advanced metrics. We "should" have to give up the farm for a guy who is 5+ WAR every single season, but for some reason I just don't feel comfortable trading major pieces for Ben Zobrist. It's hard to even come up with a fair trade in my head because everything I'd WANT to give up for him is far less than what his production dictates he SHOULD get from us. He is 33 years old, so that should be noted as well, but....I guess I'll throw this out there..... Carlos Sanchez, Frank Montas, and Chris Beck? I feel like his numbers are worth way more than that, but I just can't bring myself to want to give up more.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) Markakis is a good ball player. De Aza is a s***ty ball player. They both have solid bats, but Markakis will not hurt you in the ways De Aza did. They're actually similar at the dish, but very different in other regards. As someone who REALLY hates De Aza, and was the first person (I think) to bring up the idea of signing Markakis, I even have to admit that the advanced metrics tell us that Markakis is only a slightly better player overall. They will both be 31-year-old OFers next year. The metrics show us that De Aza is actually the better fielder AND the better baserunner, as mindboggling wrong as that sounds. Offensively, Markakis takes the cake largely over their careers, but over the recent years, they haven't been too far off. I personally like Markakis more for this team because we have already seen that he CAN be an all-star OF. He's had two 4+ WAR seasons, his highest being a 6.3. The problem is that those seasons were 7 years ago. De Aza isn't likely to ever have the years that Markakis had, but maybe THIS version of Markakis is who he will be, and what he is, is a slightly better overall player than De Aza. So I'm really starting to wonder if I really want Markakis to be signed anymore, at least for any substantial money. I keep asking myself, okay, if I were to offer Markakis 3 yrs/$39M, would I be okay with offering De Aza anything close to that? And I keep telling myself, HELL NO. I feel like I would go 2 yrs/$16M w/ De Aza if I was forced to make him a real offer. The thing is, I wouldn't want to ever offer him anything other than a 4th OF spot for pennies. So it's hard to tell myself that I'd pay Markakis that much more.
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) Oh please. You're so full of it. You find nothing ever wrong with Apple. You're the biggest Apple ballsucker in the world. Steve Jobs probably didn't love Apple as much as you and was definitely more willing to admit faults. So keep making posts about how Apple's latest phone is the greatest even though someone already came out with it about 2 years ago. And keep bashing all products but apple and minimizing their mistakes if you ever admit them.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) But this team easily could compete for a division crown. You improve 3-4 spots on the team, improve the bullpen in general, and you could easily be talking about a 12+ win jump. With an estimated free agent value of $11 mill (the average of what Quintana qualifies for from the White Sox for his first 2 years of free agency), the White Sox have Quintana set up as 30%/49%/63%/80%, which even favors the player a little bit compared to the typical 40/60/80. Even if you assume Rodon's free agent value will be $15 mill, you're looking at this: Super 2: 0.5/0.5/4.5/7.5/9.5/12 = $34.5 Non S2: 0.5/0.5/0.5/6.0/9.0/12 = $28.5 $6 million is, in the long run, a very minimal amount extra To address your first point, I don't think that way. I don't ASSUME the Sox will add 3-4 spots to this team for next season, therefore I don't think, as this team is currently constructed, will be competing next season. Now if we DO add guys like Bruce, Markakis, Shields, etc, then my viewpoint will definitely change and I may then want Rodon in the rotation in April, but until it happens, I assume that it won't. Makes it easier to be less disappointed when it doesn't. Heh. To your second point, again, with a team that can compete, I am okay with burning $6M on 12-15 starts, but if this team is not ready to compete, I'd prefer to save that money that could help fetch a FA in 2017 or whenever that Super 2 year would be.
  20. He countered my trade with.... Tony Romo Josh Gordon for Keenan Allen Bishop Sankey Brandin Cooks
  21. Cats are horrible pets. I don't want any pet that hates people and hides constantly. I am cool with super outgoing cats that are friendly, but the most anti-social dog is generally more social than most cats, it seems. My neighbors have 2 cats. One of each personality. The b**** Lizzy won't come near me unless she is in a super good mood and I find her on our front porch, but the male cat Jimmy will come over if I call him and he loves to play. It's now 9 long days until I get my puppy, and the neighbor girl and I plan on introducing my puppy to Jimmy to see if they can be friends. Figure the cat may be more willing to be nice while she is tiny and not a threat, versus when she grows to be 5 times his size and weight.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 04:49 AM) Love that last tracking shot. #NerdPost My video production professor would absolutely lose his mind watching any modern tv shows or movies. He took points off our projects if we did any pan or tracking shots that weren't used solely for the purpose of showing the large size of something that couldn't be captured if our original field of view. Also, he had a MASSIVE issue with stage direction. I lost many points because the action would switch sides of the camera. He was such a pain in the ass to work with.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 12:32 AM) He'd have to either hate McCoy or be super desperate for a mid-tier QB and WR2 to make that trade. Once that line gets healthy in Philly, McCoy is going to be a stud again. He showed that last week. If by mid-tier, you mean top 10 annually. He's got Carson Palmer right now.
  24. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 12:24 AM) Giving up Viciedo, who hits 20 HR a year, for Grandal (PLUS WEBB) is silly. And watch me do this from a Padres fan's perspective.... ----- Giving up Grandal, who walks more than twice as much as Viciedo, for only Viciedo (PLUS WEBB) is silly. ----- Put Grandal in US Cellular Field instead of Petco, and he may have hit 20 HR last season too. Viciedo was worth -0.7 wins last year, Grandal worth 1.1 I think Viciedo + Webb would be a pretty fair trade. You could even argue it favors the White Sox.
  25. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) lol there's no way you're getting someone to agree to that. I start there, and eventually get him to agree to Romo/Williams for McCoy. After all, McCoy only has 1 TD this season.
