GAME THREAD 7/9: SOX @ BOS
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to cabiness42's topic in 2014 Season in Review
What a terrible play by De Aza in LF. Hope it doesn't cost Chris a run, but any decent and athletic LF could have caught that. It hit like 5 feet up the wall. -
QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) I thoroughly enjoy Nathan for You. So funny. Probably the best original show Comedy Central has put out in a long time. He is quite a weird, awkward guy, which is why it's funny. Just crazy good deadpan.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) Why's Hawk talking about Manziel? They showed that he is in attendance. And when they cut to him, he was wiping off either beer that the girl next to him spilled on his leg, or splooge from her J'ing him O. The world may never know. -

Head first slide, and Viciedo is safe at 2nd. That pop up slide screwed him. -

Gillaspie should get hit in the knee more often. He is what, 5 for 6 with 2 HR, 2 2B since he came back? -

Seriously, I'm actually entertained right now watching he receive borderline pitches. -

Wow, their catcher has some wicker fast hands. He is framing these pitches so fast he is almost fooling me. -

I'm going to be pretty upset if Viciedo's defense in RF will have any influence on Chris not throwing a perfect game/no-hitter tonight. Basically, I want a solid base hit at some point tonight that nullifies that bloop to RF by Ortiz. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) When Montas went down and they didn't promote Dykstra, I had a feeling they were holding the slot for exactly this reason. For a guy like him, and the way the Sox do things, the aggressive assignment isn't a big surprise. I can't remember which baseball expert I heard it from, but someone though Rodon would be immediately placed in Birmingham. So maybe the W-S start is not aggressive at all, and may be a little jab at him for not signing immediately like they expected him to. Like a "See, now you got an extra level to climb through because you wanted to be greedy" type thing. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) July 18th, and Chicago can get the Toews, Kane, and Rodon signings all in one afternoon. I was close, just off by 9 days. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) His K rate has remained low throughout his little stallout, so I'm not worried Even with today's 2 strikeout game, Davidson has struck out only 18% this month. Compare that to 27% in June, 29% in May, and 40% in April. And since the magical June 16th date..... 21 G, .262 AVG, 6 HR, 12 RBI, 11 BB, 18 K, which pencils out to a 19.5% K-rate, which is absolutely fine for a power hitter.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) It better be for Maurer and Erasmo Ramirez. Why? Don't you want to aim higher than that? Ask for SS Chris Taylor and C Tyler Marlette. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=taylor004chr http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=marlet000tyl

Road to .500 by the All-Star break
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 10:38 PM) You mean the road to the 14th-18th draft pick in the 1st round....? I'd rather they were 10 games under .500, improved the team with the best trades for prospects at the deadline and all the key players for next season were completely healthy/successful in Abreu, Sale, Quintana, Eaton and Avisail. While I was pretty much rooting for losses a week ago, 7.5 GB of Detroit is kind of enticing. I really have no idea what to root for at this point, I'm just enjoying individual player success and not really caring either way yet about the outcome. -
Abreu 1 of 2 players considered for final HR derby spot

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) Well he's got 16 homers and I think he was picked since it is in his home stadium. Bingo. Twins fans may have gone all Royals-fans circa 2012 on Bautista if he didn't pick Dozier. -
I love DropBox, but I got like 11GB of storage and haven't used even half yet. I mainly use it for moving documents and pictures around.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 09:08 PM) Ravelo has the hit tool. Stoltz said plus hit, and scouts thing he can reach a plus power. To me, that seems like a .290, 20 HR guy to me. Got to love that. Just off the top of my head of current major league 1B, maybe like an Adam Lind type guy? Brandon Belt? James Loney? Those are guys who hit around 20-something HR and hit .280+.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) Looks like Carroll got Chris Sale back.. No he didn't That number has already been disconnected. lol EDIT: Nevermind, maybe it's a landline.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) 6-10 years; seriously; Probably 30% of pitchers are going to have some form of surgery during a 6-10 year window. If not, higher. How about 1 year. Yeah, I was going to say 1 year as well. 6-10 years and that TJS could have absolutely nothing to do with his elbow at the current stage. No one though Bronson Arroyo was unhealthy 6-10 years ago. He was the healthiest pitcher in baseball until last week. First ever DL trip, and it's TJS. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:55 PM) Mario Kart 8. So fun. So my son with this game (he is 7). First of all he is just ruthless. I used to let him win sometimes when he was 3 or 4 but now he talks so much hot s*** during the game that when I have the chance to, I destroy him. He shows me no mercy so I respond in kind. This past weekend he asks me: Him: So dad do you like winning? Me: Sure. Him: Do you like losing? Me: No. Him: Not even a little bit? Me: Not really. Him: Well you better get used to losing, because you're about to get OWNED! Then the next day we're playing one of the N64 retro tracks. He says "did you like this track when you played it in olden times?" Hit that kid in the mouth with a belt.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) MKBHD's videos have great production value. And while he's not as specific as I would like in some of his reviews, they're all pretty good. It's amazing how he's at 1 million+ subscribers. I remember when I first started watching his videos, he had maybe 100K. His lack of over technical explanations are a reason why he's good. He's very conversational and it's as if your neighbor is talking about his new phone he got.

Also, Andy Wilkins hit his 15th HR. He has gotten better ever month of the year so far. April - .183/.227/.390, .618 OPS May - .213/.248/.413, .661 OPS June - .306/.326/.531, .877 OPS In July he is hitting nearly .400 with an OPS probably around .900 after his HR today.
