This winning streak recently absolutely terrifies me. I have NO IDEA what I want the end result of each game to be, besides obviously all our young or trade candidate players succeeding.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 01:31 AM) ESPN is even on the Sale train right now. Saying what? That he may be a top 10 pitcher in the AL right now?

He's got a thread, and he was totally never abandoned, not even once, and certainly not for like 3 years... http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;#entry3026904

I've come back for you, my sweet, sweet prince. Thanks for progressing nicely while I was away. I swear I just went out for some milk...... -
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 11:54 AM) Thirded. Very cool Rock is taking the time to do this. Seriously. Is there a way for us to have a password protected thread made, and Rock can just give out the passwords? That way guests can't see the info, but us longtime members can be a part of the circle?

Garcia cleared for baseball activity

I still feel Avi relates more to an Alex Rios type than a Magglio. -
Garcia cleared for baseball activity
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Everytime I see video of Avi doing fielding drills, whether it be from a few weeks ago in Boston, or yesterday during his feet-first sliding drills in Minny, he is ALWAYS failing to catch the ball. I find that kind of funny that they couldn't have filmed any drills with him actually catching the ball. The sliding fail from yesterday ended with him taking off his mitt and slamming it to the ground. Nice SOT. -
I have always under valued Quintana.

I don't mind calling myself out when I am wrong, and in Q's case, I was wrong. I REALLY wanted him to be traded during the year last season, and then again in the offseason. Really thought he was peaking and didn't see it being sustained. Would have never predicted this 2014 season in the slightest. I was wrong. Q seems to be the real deal. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) Andy Wilkins' last 10 games look like a sample from RTTS when you've pumped up your player's power and mastered the timing of pitches and you start to feel like maybe you need to turn up the difficulty. Nailed it.

It's going to blow Hawk's mind when he figures out that minor league games are updated live. He thinks Wilkins only has 23 HR right now. -
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) Is it silly to think maybe they're asking him to be more aggressive? I think it would be silly to tell a hitter to stop being so patient and stop controlling the strike zone so well, yes. lol. But maybe instead they told him they want him to use those hitters counts to drive the ball instead of the Joey Votto approach of trying to draw a walk in every PA. So maybe on those 2-0 counts he is getting he is swinging and belting HR instead of taking a walk. I'm not really sure.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) Oh, how I wish Wilkins could play a different position And draw more walks, which are way down this season.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 01:53 AM) Anyone interested in one of Wilkins' bombs from tonight: http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...87&sid=milb I'm assuming they chose this one of the two he hit tonight since it went roughly 450 feet and almost left the stadium. Kris Bryant who?

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 11:00 PM) FIP = ((13*HR)+(3*(BB+HBP))-(2*K))/IP + constant (generally around 3.20) So, 0+0-2+3.20 FIP of around 1.20 I luv it when you analyze.

Cub fans praise non-existent prospects

I can respect the guys who don't say anything specific and just agree with the interviewer. You don't want to look dumb by saying you don't know a guy, so you just agree. But the ones who actually say "Oh a scout told me that he is getting much better". f*** you, guy. You are a jackwagon. -
I like the Carlos Gomez comp for Engel.
-
Let's give Abreu a reason to pinch hit tonight. Let #30 be a memorable one.

Here is a more recent version of that sweet Wilkins swing. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...35&sid=milb Dude absolutely clears his hips on that one.

In case you guys haven't seen that sweet silky Andy Wilkins HR swing.....

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:23 PM) Damnit. There was a 99.99999% chance you wouldn't guess him, but my bad luck. I see what you did there. Bravo.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 05:16 PM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 15m The Giants have been investigating the starting pitching trade market, considering their options. Giants could be another team interested in Danks. He would fit well in that ball park. Cool. Let's take Clayton Blackburn and Mac Williamson and Keury Mella. All on the 7-day DL too. Hah.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) But $14.25 million each of the next 2 years? That's pretty significant. moving Danks at the deadline clears about $35 million in commitments. That's why my next sentence said "Hold on to him until the offseason". I want Danks moved, but I don't want to sell so low on him that he only gets a #5 starter type return.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) To be completely fair, if the team is taking on his remaining salary and is willing to give up a piece worthy of a back of the rotation starter, that's not really that bad. Gotta remember where the salary goes. I don't think saving a few million for this year is really of any significance though.
-
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) Anyone familiar with advanced statistics is aware that Danks is garbage. Do a Google search and read some articles. It's not just my opinion here. It's pretty common knowledge. No one, literally no one, is trying to tell you John Danks is pitching well right now. I mean, we COULD talk about the stretch of 67 innings prior to his last start were he had a 2.69 ERA and an RE24 of 10.69, but I am talking about the fact that in baseball we know that players regress to the mean. Never get too high or too low on a player. To say John Danks is suddenly a #5 starter is not understanding he is more likely to improve to his average than he is to just fall off the cliff. It's not good business to be impatient and sell low. If teams are only willing to give up pieces worthy of a true #5 pitcher like Carroll or Noesi, then don't even move Danks. Hold on to him until the offseason when GM's short term memory fades away.
