2014 White Sox draft pick thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
I can't figure out if Aiken injury is a GOOD thing for us, or a BAD thing. One the one hand, it may give us a bullet to use against Boras/Rodon as far as money goes if Aiken signs for only $5M. But on the other hand, if the Astros don't sign him, it would not only bump our pick next year down 1 more spot, but if WE then fail to sign Rodon, we get the 5th pick as compensation instead of the 4th pick next year. -
Garcia cleared for baseball activity

I wonder if he would be ready in 3 1/2 weeks to time up nicely with a Viciedo or De Aza trade, giving him an OF spot again. -
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 07:00 PM) If the truth lies somewhere between then why not average them out? aWar = (bWar+fWar)/2 There was talk last year about a unified number that they would adjust their formula's to agree on, but I haven't seen it yet.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 05:54 PM) Gotta hand it to Apple here, that's an amazingly durable display (if it's the actual part). I'm not sure how much more expensive a sapphire screen would be compared to Gorilla Glass, but that should be on every smartphone. I love that guys reviews on phones. I watched a bunch of them when I was deciding on a new phone last October. That screen looks awesome.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) He's first or second now in nearly every historical Charlotte Knights category. Crash Davis-esque. Jordan Danks and Joe Borchard are the Willie Mays and Babe Ruth of Charlotte Knights. LOL.

Farrell has already said Uehara will be the fjrst replacement pitcher, so Sale wasn't even the last one cut...lol.

Can we ban Rock if he doesn't post before midnight? It seems only fair. -
So Ken Rosenthal said Sale isn't an all-star because of DL time......but Rosenthal thinks Kershaw IS an all-star, DESPITE the DL time....... What the f*** is that s***? I can't get him to reply on twitter, even though we had a conversation going about it.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 05:51 PM) To people who know more about this sort of thing than I, is Recchia a "real prospect" or a "AAAA/Filler guy"? More than likely just a filler guy, but he has yet to fail at the levels he should not be failing, so that's good. AA has slowed him down a little as expected, but he is finally facing more age-appropriate players. He will likely just fall in to the Leesman/Axelrod/Carroll type role which provides value at the end of the rotation when needed, but he's no one we have penciled in to a future rotation, I can promise you that.

Oh, forgot about G-F. Zach Fisher and Jake Peter both had really nice 3-hit nights. Fisher had 4 RBI.

2/3 night for Barnum, with a 2B, RBI. Up to .247 on the year now. In 17 games since the 2nd half started, he is hitting .369 with 3 HR and almost a 1.000 OPS. His K-rate has improved every month this year. Also, Terrance Marin has been GREAT since he came back. It must be that cutter he added. \ Yeuris Guerrero of our DSL team now has 15 K and 3 BB in 9 IP this year in relief. And only allowed 1 ER. He is an 18-year-old 6'3" righty.

Nice night for Micah. He's creeping back up to .300. He is a couple games away from having an even split of PA in AA and AAA this season, and just glancing at the numbers it appears he has cut his strikeouts down (weren't bad anyway), but his walk rate plummeted, which makes sense in an advanced level of pitchers. 2/4 for Ravelo with a HR, 2 RBI. He is hitting .316 now in AA. I love how close he has always been to matching his BB and K-rates. That would be amazing if his power really does turn in to a plus tool.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:08 PM) So fWAR is more accurate? In a way, yes. bWAR tends to get a lot more outliers than fWAR, but they agree with each other on a player like 90% of the time anyway. Most almost everyone trusts fWAR more.
-
QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) No. Fangraph has its own WAR. (People usually called fWAR around the internet). Fangraphs does use B-R's war, they just call it rWAR. He meant ESPN. Yes, ESPN just uses B-R's war. fWAR ---> Fangraphs bWAR or rWAR ---> Baseball Reference ESPN had a 50/50 shot at finally getting something about baseball right, and they got it wrong.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:12 PM) I'll have some updated Rodon info tomorrow night. Sweet. I'll be feverishly refreshing the site all day tomorrow then. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) That worked out so well when Hosmer, Moustakas and Bubba Starling led the Royals to the 2014 World Series title last year. Even "can't miss" guys like Wil Myers haven't proven themselves to be bulletproof. Other than Bryant, the Cubs don't have anyone you can be sure is going to make a huge impact. And neither does pretty much any team without a top 5 prospect.

Well s***, if Abreu is gone. I'm going to go kayak across the lake.. I've spent far too much of this day inside watching a Sox game on my laptop. Have fun, everyone. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) And Abreu lifted for pinch runner. He was? Mariners broadcast has not recognized it yet. -

I take it back. A Kong walk-off would be pretty cool too. -

Oh s***, I forgot that Viciedo got lifted for a pinch runner. Well then in this case I hope the game gets to Abreu again. -

The only outcomes I am rooting for right now is a Viciedo walk-off HR, or for Abreu to bat again. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) But they have what MANY on our board want, young prospects, top prospects. We have many on our board who just want prospects. Well the Cubs have a ton of em and thus are gonna win it all finally. That jinx appears to be Ova in the not so distant future. So what's your point? That because the Cubs have a lot of good prospects that the Sox shouldn't try to do the same? I don't understand where you point lies in all this.

It's going to be so cool when Abreu extends his streak with a walk off bomb though. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) Nope. Streak over, unless the bullpen goes all 2014 bullpen on us. Hey look, they did!
