Slow pitch softball thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) Anyone here every play in a rec-level, or at least not super-competitive level softball league, and run into "that guy" who takes everything so seriously that he's a cartoon? My knee has been hurting so I was catching last night. This guy comes up, puts his hand to the ump for time, while he digs around in the box for about 20 minutes. Then he finally puts his hand down, and starts swinging the bat back and forth. So the ump says its on, the pitcher delivers a pitch, and just as the pitch is being delivered, he backs out of the box. Pitch is good, ump calls a strike. This dude looks at the umpire and says "come on man, I can't have a chance to get ready here? Do I need to f***ing say 'time out" or something?" And he's completely serious, looking all offended. The ump and I look at him, the ump says, "maybe you should. Will you get back in there now please?" Dude gets back in the box, all pissy, and proceeds to ground out to short, cussing all the way to first. One of my friends, and teammate for years is that guy. He does the Bryce Harper eye black stuff, is super serious, and is always in the zone with a game face on. He doesn't do that s*** in the batters box though, and he is actually a very good player. But last night was the season opener for my co-ed team, and there was a guy on the other team who stood in the box with his hand up to the ump as he moved the dirt around to make a foothole for 25-30 seconds. I am not even kidding. I took my glove off and put it under my arm and just stared at him. When he finally said he was ready, I just stood there for another 5 seconds and said "You good, or what?". He then proceeded to reach base against our terrible defense, so that wasn't cool. -
Just watched the series finale of Awake....and all I have to say is.... Uhh......what? I'll wait until the rest of you watch it Thursday night, but I have no idea how to feel right now, other than confused.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 24, 2012 -> 12:42 AM) Is Paulie the best 1B in the league right now? (talking offense here). Easily the best in the AL. In the NL you have LaHair, Votto, and LaRoche all having fine seasons, but you could probably argue for Paulie over those 3 as well.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 24, 2012 -> 12:45 AM) I was thinking that too. Also, it's such a kiddie question. I'd be caught off guard a little too. Not something I think about regularly, and I'm not quite sure if I necessarily have a "favorite player" at the moment. He goes out of his way to show his support for the Sox, and that's more than enough for me. It would be lame if he was a regular ol' soxtalk geek anyways. He's got better, more important things to do... I mean, I can answer mine pretty easily. Growing up: Magglio Current: Sale (Viciedo and Paulie are up there) -
Made Apple Pie tonight. Accidentally kept the heat too high while the cinnamon sticks cooked though, so a ton of the liquid evaporated. Left me with one mildy strong pot, and one very strong pot. I plan on combining the two tomorrow and adding some more apple juice to calm it down a bit. Lesson learned, next time do not cook it that hot for that long. Also, decided to go with a whole bottle of Vodka this time (whipped, to add to the "apple pie" theme), instead of half a bottle of Vodka and half a bottle of Jim Beam. Saved on cost, and still tastes delicious.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ May 23, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) So, uh, I got the job. Hah Now accepting move ins... Fowler huh? I spent a year at St. Joseph's College and my roommate was from Fowler. Being that the town is so damn small, you may know his family, who I believe is political. His dad is a judge I think. Travis Kepner was my roommate.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 23, 2012 -> 11:29 PM) All he has to say is Frank Thomas or Paul Konerko and nobody gives a s***. I'm not arguing, I'm just saying, those are two very well recognized names that people will always associate with the White Sox. Oh, and he doesn't have 2 seconds to look at a box score, but he does have time to do 2 nationally televised March Madness brackets. I generally don't care and I do agree with the general principle that any Presidential publicity is good publicity for a professional team, but don't excuse the fact that he doesn't know anybody because he's busy. Just say "he doesn't care that much about baseball but if he had to pick a team, because you do when you are a Chicagoan, he is a Sox fan first." It's much simple and causes me to make fewer posts like this one. Maybe he was worried about which response would net him the best light in the view of the public. Does he make sure to pick a favorite with a squeeky clean past? (No Ozzie). Does he pick a white player, a black player, latino? Does he say he loved the underdog, or does he pick the fan favorite? Unfortunately, sometimes these things actually come across people's minds. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:55 PM) Between this comment and hating the film "Drive", you are officially dead to me. Lol, ok, I respect that.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:07 PM) Can King Kong hit .400 for the season? Sure, why not. This team is better than .500. C'mon for another long winning streak. No way, but I think he may be able to hit .320, which would be awesome.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 23, 2012 -> 08:44 PM) VEEP is terrific I couldn't watch the pilot without falling asleep.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2012 -> 09:20 AM) LOL. On one side you have a 28-year old who already had 800 ML at-bats, compared with a 23 year old pitcher in the minors who was converted from an infielder. Might as well just cut Molina already, no point in letting him develop. Yeah, I don't get how you can compare a major league IF to a mid-minor league level starter already. We haven't even seen what Molina can do yet.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 23, 2012 -> 01:49 PM) Orioles moved Dylan Bundy to High-A. Apparently the Sally League wasn't much of a challenge. 30 innings, 2 walks, 40 K's, 0.00 ERA He retired something like 49 of the first 52 batters he faced. -
It must be said - Hawk Harrelson has to go
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is there a soul out there who thinks Hawk is good? No. That's not why he is around. Let Hawk be in the booth until the day he dies, as long as Steve Stone is there too. Now Hawk + DJ was just about the worst thing in the world, but when you have Steve Stone to balance it out, you can get the best of both worlds. -
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 23, 2012 -> 12:35 AM) Probably means he gets thrown out trying to stretch a single to a double, a double to a triple, running on a ball in the dirt that didn't get far enough away, etc. I dunno how accurate this guy is but he really hates Orlando Hudson. I've just never heard the term "hustle play" used negatively. I think of a hustle play as one that was made because the player hustled so hard, which is a good thing.

QUOTE (kapzk @ May 22, 2012 -> 05:35 PM) "Twins Reporter: Hudson Might Be The Worst Player I’ve Ever Covered" http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/05/22/twi...e-ever-covered/ "he’ll get thrown out about eight times a week trying to make a dumb hustle play" What does that even mean?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 22, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) Claude Giroux was playing beer pong with casts on both of his wrists after surgery. KANER!!!! That dude is such an alcoholic. Maybe one day he will grow up and act his age.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2012 -> 12:22 PM) They broke it into two pieces? Damn. I can't wait though. AMC wanted it that way. Vince G wanted 1 finale season that was 16 episodes long, but AMC made him split it in half.

What has gotten in to Doyle lately? Man on a mission.

Watched Drive tonight. I didn't really like it. Very weird. Gosling was too quiet and mysterious throughout the whole thing, and then the violence was just so shocking. I kept saying to myself "uhh......ok" after something would happen. I don't recommend it.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ May 21, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) Literally in tears watching Gio Gonzalez pitch tonight. Absolutely electric stuff. Either you don't know what "literally" means, or you are super emotional.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 21, 2012 -> 10:50 PM) His twitter profile is already updated to reflect the White Sox. His twitter also says.... "Second Basemen for the Chicago White Sox."

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 21, 2012 -> 05:38 PM) What did he say? "I am especially pleased that I had a chance to show them Soldier Field. I regret that I was not able to take in one of the Crosstown Classics, although I will note that my teams did okay. (Laughter.) Now -- White Sox fan in the back. (Laughter.) Right on." -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) Neftali Feliz to the DL with a sore elbow (Still awaiting MRI results). Holy unbelievable. I think that makes 7 players on my fantasy team now. Good thing I already changed my name to Team Disabled List. EDIT: Actually, it makes 8. Andrew Bailey, Carl Crawford, Evan Longoria, Brett Gardner, Sergio Santos, Ryan Dempster, John Jay, and now Neftali Feliz

The Borgias last night was good. No boobies, but we saw Catarina's fish mitten! Haha. Also, the friar is really f***ing ugly. Can't wait for Mikaletto to put one in his back (and hopefully not his ass).
