QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) His ERA is very deceiving. With only 27 Ks in 48 innings, it says something about his stuff. While he must be doing something right with an ERA that low and a good amount of innings, his stuff suggests nothing more than backend rotation fodder or a bullpen arm. Granted, I think that's what many expected from him, I am tempering my enthusiasm about his 2012 year. Yeah, Pedro Hernandez's number don't impress me. 30K in 55 innings isn't very inspiring, especially when his BB/9 rate is 2.7. Those numbers need to go in opposite directions.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) I've been saying that as well. I haven't. Unless we no longer value Danks as a prospect and future OF for this team, then yeah, severely limit his playing time and improvement by putting him on the Sox bench.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:37 PM) What prospects? We have a bunch of crap that other teams gave up on. Im not pining over anyone, im just saying weve have traded away legit prospects and have been getting the short end of stick for YEARS. Almost all the prospects we have traded away, have been s***. Let's count the prospects we have given away that have actually been GOOD major leaguers. Hudson, Gio, Chris Young........ and that's about it. Ryan Sweeney has been alright, but he isn't anyone special. Brandon Allen had a cup of coffee, De Los Santos had a little stint in the majors. Clayton Richards is still in the majors, but garbage. So of the 20-25 guys Kenny has traded away, 3 of them have been good major leaguers, yes?
-
QUOTE (knightni @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) I wasn't upset with them dealing Hudson at the time because, salary aside, it looked like a fairly even trade stat-wise. I'm upset that Rizzo bamboozled KW into being forced to keep Jackson instead of completing the 3 way to get Dunn. THEN Rizzo gets the Sox #1 on top of it the following season, with the Sox signing Dunn as a type A, AND he signs Jackson as a free agent for free. Yep. My biggest, and only gripe with that trade (once Rizzo decided to screw over Kenny) was that Holmberg was involved. That was the dagger for me.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) I don't think there are a whole lot of people who disagreed with that, especially since 2009 or so... That being said, I don't think it's fair to consider what happened here with Swisher as anything that could have been expected. It seems the loudest people here are still whining over the Hudson deal, and I've been saying Gio is going to be the better pitcher when it's all said and done.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 30, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) Eh, yes it happens... Maybe not for bussers that aren't being paid properly, but waiters often make way more than minimum wage due to their tips. I don't know why you accepted a server wage when you weren't a server. And waiters at really nice places make far more than minimum wage. I meant to say it doesn't *always* happen. And I didn't KNOW I was supposed to be paid $3.50. I was a 17 year old kid just happy to be making money, I didn't think to ask the other bussers what they were making to see if I was on par with them, hell I am pretty sure that's "illegal". -
QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) Regardless if the Sox need him in the majors this year or not, there's no way to spin his season so far as anything but a massive disappointment. To me, Castro is much more intriguing as a big league pitcher than he is. However, it wouldn't shock me if Molina has a great season next year in AAA. Only a massive disappointment if you expect him to continue his insane 2011 season. This season he has had a 7.0 K/9. That's solid. He has a 1.8 BB/9. That's very good. He has a K/BB of 3.83, which is very nice. His HR/9 is 0.9. That's solid. His only problem has been the hits. Who knows, that could be bad defense, that could be bad luck. Is he doing great this season? No. Is he doing bad this year? No. Don't get so caught up in ERA, it's a terrible way to judge a prospect. His peripherals are the most important thing to look at in a box score, and he is doing just fine w/ those, outside of the hits.

I have been saying this for years, and maybe people are starting to realize it.... The Nick Swisher trade is the worst deal Kenny has ever made.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2012 -> 05:27 PM) Castro and Quintana have definitely moved ahead of him in terms of prospect standing, IMO Some of you guys have such knee-jerk reactions when it comes to prospects. Nestor wasn't going to be a chance on this team until MAYBE sometime next season anyway. If we get to the start of 2014 season and he isn't ready to take a spot at the end of the rotation, then I'll be worried.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 30, 2012 -> 06:27 PM) Trade Floyd for a 3B at deadline and have Quintana take his spot in the rotation. Hmmm....that'd be risky, but I'd probably be ok with that. Floyd for Youk + Cash? Figure out a way to get David Wright? Michael Young? I don't know, but if we can get a real solid 3B, this team will be very dangerous.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think I'd like the Sox to push Humber up a day so he could face Seattle again. He would still be on a 5-day rest, and he did ok last time he saw them. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 30, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) AJ is only lovable because he's on your team. Everyone else everywhere hates the guy for a reason. You f***s would be fellating Brett Lawrie if he were on the Sox. I don't think so. I hated Terrell Owens, I hated Daniel Carcillo. I don't suddenly like players that I've previously had a reason to hate before they join one of my favorite teams. -
I have only seen Part 1 so far, but I liked it.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) So then the commonly held theory that servers rely on tips to make money doesn't really seem to hold true. They are guaranteed the exact same minimum wage as every other joe-blow standing behind a cash register in a retail store. They simply rely on tips to make more than minimum wage. If restaurants got rid of tips they would probably make less money. Yeah, but it doesn't happen. I've often made less than minimum wage when I used to be a busser, and they never comped me. Hell, for the first 6 months I worked there, they were paying me a server wage ($2.13) instead of the busser wage ($3.50), and even though I brought it up, nothing was done. -
No doubles, no doubles, no doubles, no doubles, no doubles, no doubles.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Don't think for a second that he isn't communicating with the dugout. I don't know, that doesn't show very much faith at all in your bench coach that you need to coach from the clubhouse.

Hawk - "Let's see what Robin wants to do here...." Umm....probably get another drink in the clubhouse, where he is watching this game.....

Ball 1 had all of the plate too. What The f***!!?!?

Old Q has 2 HR today. He is hitting .545 with 3 HR and 6 RBI in 2 1/2 games this season. That'll work.

Oh man, if Rios doesn't come up big here, I have a feeling we lose this game. Big momentum shift, and I gots a bad feeling....
