Yeah, an iPod will work just fine, but a smart buyer will look in to the other options available, and not just go with the one they see on TV the most. Not saying none of you considered other options, but I would bet MOST people did not, and even if they did, the "Do I really want to be seen with something that isn't an ipod?" probably crossed their mind.

And I don't have a problem with people owning those products, but I feel like most of them probably buy them for all the wrong reasons.

But the difference there is that everyone KNOWS the segment of the market these apple products belong to. They know what an mp3 player is. They know what a laptop is, they know what a computer is, a cell phone, etc. Apple didn't invent any of these things, they were the first to make any of those items.
