QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Is it really so bad for someone who equates phones to iphones because that's what they use? Yeah, but think about it. When have you ever heard someone say, "Hey, can I borrow your Android?" Or... "Where is my Nexus One", or "Have you seen my Evo 4G?". I haven't. Most people just say phone or cell phone. Have you ever heard someone say "Hey, have you seen my Dell?" "I need to get a new Acer." "My parents are getting me a Toshiba for christmas!". No, but you will often hear the word "Mac" used. It's like anything made by Apple is no longer segmented in to any other type of market. It's laptops vs. Macs, it's computers vs. Macbooks. It's Mp3 players vs. ipods. It's cell phones vs. iPhones. It's tablets vs. Ipads. It's annoying. It's not just Apple. It annoys me when people say "Yeah, let's take my BMW." Or "I'll drive, we can take my Lexus". Why the need to say who makes your car? My dad owns a very nice Lexus, but I don't refer to it as such. It's a car, it's my dad's car. Just because it's expensive and a status symbol doesn't mean it's no longer a car. I don't need to sound cool. I don't refer to my Mitsubishi Galant by it's name. Not saying that's a hot car, just saying it's just a car, refer to it as such.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Is it really so bad for someone who equates phones to iphones because that's what they use? It's like someone saying "hey can I use your cellphone" when really you just have a landline phone, it's no big deal. Ipods made up close to 75% of the mp3 market in 2009, it's pretty damn easy to just call mp3 players ipods, and since they do more than that it is fair to say ipods are different. I'm a proud owner of an iphone because personally it works great for me, and I'm sure many android devices would work great for me too. But too nitpick at little things like that to me just screams that you like to hate popular things I hate things that are overly popular for no reason to me. Like Northface, for example. It seems like almost every college kid owns a northface jacket. I live with 2 girls, two girls who are the ideal target for companies. Two girls who are completely swallowed up in consumerism and brand loyalty. They spend hundreds of dollars on Northface sweatshirts and jackets. They say things like "Haha, I bet she doesn't even have a Northface." or "Where is my Northface?" instead of "Where is my jacket? Sweatshirt?". I asked her once "What makes Northface so great? Why do you insist on that brand?" she says "Uh...because they are the best? Everyone wears a Northface." So I ask again, "Why are they the best? They seem like every other brand I see", she says "You just don't understand. Everyone has them, they are better than everything else". This is the same girl who only buys Apple products (doesn't have an iphone yet, but refuses to get an Android), wears Coach purses, refers to everything by the most popular brand. "Hey Joe, hand me the Windex" "Uh...I don't see any Windex. I see this xxxx glass cleaner, but not Windex." "Yeah, duh, that's Windex". She is so caught up in brand names and consumerism that it makes me sick. I don't hate all popular things, but unless I see a reason for something being so popular, I generally will be against it. I don't buy things to look cool, sound cool, or show off. I wouldn't say I am really loyal to any one brand, except White Sox!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) You sly dog, you love the Slayer! We talking man on man action? Because in that case I would DEFINITELY do Beckham. Wait, what?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) You gotta have money to spend money! If those people like the products and can afford them, what's the big deal? Apple does not put out low-quality product. No, they do make quality products, but it's the attitude that comes along with the people who buy the Apple products that annoys me. Anyone who only refers to their phone as an "iPhone" instead of a....phone, cell phone, etc, is pretty much dead to me. "Anyone have a phone I can borrow?" "Yeah sure, take my Iphone!" or "Where is my iPhone?" or "Can I borrow your iPhone?" regardless of what kind of cell phone they actually own. It just bugs the s*** out of me. You might be surprised how many times I have had to correct people who think an ipod and an mp3 player are rival things. Who say "Mp3 players suck, get an ipod". Makes me automatically think they are the dumbest people alive. And that's not it, it's also the smug, elitist attitude. And I go to a "Mac heavy" college, so I constantly run in to these dumb people.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) Plus wasn't there one or game where he gave up like 5 runs, which in an of itself can have a major impact on a reliever given the sample size. I think it was 6 ER in 1/3 of an inning vs. the Royals in a non-save situation. It sent his ERA from 0.00 to like 6.50. He has been working ever since to bring it back down to Earth. -
I would maybe do Beckham, because his price would obviously be low right now. I would be hesitant on Sale, unless you had insurance on him, then go for it. I would wait on Viciedo. I would never give a long term deal to a reliever, so no on Reed.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) What are Reed's splits between Save Situations and Non-Save situations? Are they drastic or similar? Sv Sit: 6 1/3 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 6 K, 0.00 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 3 K:BB NonSv: 12 1/3 IP, 13 H, 6 BB, 15 K, 7.30 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 2.5 K:BB So yeah, I'd say pretty drastic, although obviously small sample sizes. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) Cats have individual personalities, like people. Some are shy, some are friendly, much of it depends on the type of environment they were raised in, or whether they were ever in the wild. The cats actions may not make sense to you, but they could be perfectly logical. I'm just saying although I would never get one, or recommend anyone to get one, I HAVE met a few cool cats in my day that I think I could tolerate owning, but only if a woman forced me to.

Someone tweeted the Sox may go for Stroman and try and get him to the majors by September. Pretty much put him on the Chris Sale/Addison Reed track to the majors, which has worked out spectacularly well so far.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) You hate apple fanboys, and yet you are the exact opposite of one. So you're just as bad as the fanboys themselves. Except I don't spend my money like an idiot. I'd rather hate one brand and be open to all other kinds, than to be obsessed with one brand, and ignore all the other many options.

I do, however, enjoy one of my neighbors cats. Both of their cats are always outdoors during the day, and then sleep in their house at night, but one of them, Jimmy, is very dog-like, which is why I like him. He responds to his name and will come if you call him over. He is very friendly and likes people. He used to wait outside in our yard for me when I would get home from HS back in the day. Their other cat, Lizzy, who is a b****, likes to hang out in our yard. She hops the fence and lays by our pool, and then as soon as we come outside, she freaks the f*** out and jumps back in to her own yard. Very skiddish and hisses at our dog, even though our dog would probably only lick her face.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) Careful, Badger. Here is where all the dog freaks will make fun of cats for no reason, even though my two cats are the coolest pets I've ever had.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:34 PM) Ahhh. The sweet memories of having a dog in a 3rd floor condo w/o stairs in the winter. How fun that was. At least it was on a side street neighborhood so people had lawns and there was grass everywhere. Lol, I thought you were going to say so I could just fling the poop out the window.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) That's probably because you don't really introduce her to many other dogs. Well of course I am not going to introduce her to some dog that is chained up in someone's yard, that's weird and could be dangerous. If you are asking if I have ever taken her to a dog park, no, and I am not really sure if any exist around me. But either way, I am always nervous of other dogs hurting her. I'm a protective mother.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) Joe, clearly you don't see the difference in doing the minimum to make your pet happy and doing the maximum. It has nothing to do with pets being needy, it has everything to do with having a healthy and happy pet. Your family very obviously does the minimum. So be it. Nah, I just think some people are over dramatic with the way they talk about owning an animal. Obviously living in an apartment ups the commitment time much more, but either I was given the greatest dogs in the most ideal situation, or owning a dog in the suburbs really isn't a challenge at all. The potty training and obedience is really the hardest part, and that only takes the first couple months. Then you have 10-14 years of a great family member. I will say this though, our family has always owned golden retrievers or labs, so I'd imagine that a lot of other breeds can be much harder to control/teach/cooperate, but then I guess you only have yourself to blame for that. When I live on my own at some point, I've always toyed with the idea of getting a different kind of large dog breed, but then I think of how easy and friendly and smart goldens are, and I think maybe I don't want to risk it with a trouble breed.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) Oh, ok, and with multiple pooches they can certainly wear each other out - no doubt about it. My parents have 4 awful dachshunds - horribly behaved - but they have a big backyard so the things are always worn out... Now if the wife and I could visit without the things jumping all over her and barking like psychos. Ugh, dachshunds. Dachshunds scare me for some reason. They seem like the "gnaw off your ankles" type dog. Maybe it's because I knew an evil one when I was younger, who knows. And no, we only have the 1 dog, although every household in my family owns a large dog, so they all get to play together at our lake house or cottage or my backyard. My dog is kind of snooty though when it comes to dogs she doesn't know, which is probably a good thing. She just ignores them completely and walk away. Whenever I do happen to take her on a walk, other dogs bark at her, and she doesn't even turn her head, just keeps her head high and shakes her butt, it's pretty funny to see.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) Oh yeah, I agree with this - just so very few people take the time to train their dogs. I mean, your family takes their dogs for a walk 2-3 times per year, I can only imagine the work that went into training the poor things. Well, the first dog we got before I was born, so I can't speak to the level of training she got, although she was incredibly obedient. The current dog we have we got when I was 10, and she was a quick learner, and also very very obedient. I think it's been years since she has done anything wrong, which was probably knocking over the garbage can, she had a phase of doing that for a little bit that she has gotten over.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) Joe, just curious...what kind of yard do you guys have? Is it big? How many dogs do you guys have? What kind of yard? Grass...lol Yes. 1 dog.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) 2-3 walks a year? I hope your parents have a big back yard. We do, like a half acre or something. And when we are at our lake house or cottage, she doesn't wear a leash or chain. I assume the "walk your dog 5 times a day" business is for apartment dwellers or something.

1/3 of the way through the season

I would change Adam Dunn to an A. His strikeouts are expected of him. As long as he hits 40+ HR and knocks in a ton of runs, he can strike out 240 times and it wouldn't be that bad. Also, I give Reed a B. He has been great in closing situations. He has only allowed runs in 3 appearances this year, all of them in non-save situations since he was named the closer. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) Every dog should take obedience classes. Not if you can do it yourself.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) Dude, you HAVE to walk your dog in the morning. Get up a bit early if you have to, the morning walk is the most important IMO. My schedule for my 8 year old dog is 9am, 4pm, 10pm and she can go 12 hours in between since shes older. Puppies and younger dogs need to at least 4-5 times a day. They'll get into a routine, but at first the lack of consistent spaced out walks makes them frustrated and they can take it out on other things. This isnt for you in particular but dogs are a s***load of work, I tell everyone when they are exclaiming how they are going to get a puppy and whatnot. They can control your life for YEARS and it will be a good 5 before they calm down enough to be that chill dog your friend has had for years. Jesus, what kind of needy breeds have you owned? I think our dog gets walked maybe....2-3 times a year? And none of our dogs have been a "s***load of work" either. Very easy pets in our experiences.

Decided to go watch a buddy of mine play summer ball tomorrow in the new Midwest Collegiate league. He plays for the Illinois Lincolns. Will miss the draft, which is extremely disappointing to me, but at least it's for a good reason.

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 03:33 AM) Unless I'm missing something he's been lights out his last 10 appearances or so. In 13 1/3 IP in May/June, he has allowed 11 hits, 7 BB, 12 K, and ERA of 1.35, and a WHIP of 1.35. He has been pretty decent. Not great, definitely not bad. But I still would rather have him be a starter or long reliever. I don't like him coming in for an inning at a time like he has, although that bump in velocity is nice to go along w/ his screwball and curveball. -
The Borgias was good again. I am really enjoying S2. Only 2 episodes left this season!
