Question about Joe Borchard's 504 ft HR
Ok, so Adam Dunn made a joke about hitting the Miller Lite sign in RF. It made me wonder how far that sign actually is. Considering Joe Borchard's HR was measured at 504, and it was hit in that direction, I figured the sign would be about 540 feet or so. So I hopped on to Google Earth and used their measuring tool. I have found it very accurate, and measured it to the OF walls to check for accuracy, and it was correct. Well, Google Earth has the sign at about 475 feet. Was Borchard's HR measured as if it hit on level ground? Like, did they take the height into effect and then give him an extra 50 feet or so based on the ball trajectory? I'm just a little confused because Adam Dunn hit a 479 foot HR last year, and in US Cellular, that would hit the Miller Lite sign, and be over the fandeck in CF, and would probably hit the front of the fundamentals deck. Dunn's 479 foot HR - http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=12052009 I measured it on Google Earth at 450ish.

2006 offseason/2011 offseason comparisons
Was looking up the moves we made for the 2006 season and they look pretty similar to the moves we are making for the 2011 season..... 2006 - Added Jim Thome 2011 - Added Adam Dunn Both are slugging lefthanders who are DH's are are known for having 1 major skill, and that's smashing home runs. Both expensive. 2006 - Signed AJ Pierzynski to $5M annual contract 2011 - Signed AJ Pierzynski to $4M annual contract 2006 - Signed Paul Konerko to $12.5M annual contract 2011 - Likely to sign Paul Konerko to annual contract around $12M Key pieces that don't match up are the Sox trading for Javy Vazquez, and then resigning Jon Garland. (Danks?)

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) I wouldn't say I'm "not all that excited" b/c I am excited. But I agree that this isn't close to what I was feeling in the '06 offseason. Give me Konerko and I think this surpasses the '06 offseason.

Ron Santo has passed away.
I am not going to lie and pretend that he was a good announcer, because he was terrible in my opinion, but it can't be denied that he loved the Cubs and he was very enthusiastic about the team.

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) ESPN sucks. The "Lead" part of their crawl didn't mention Dunn going to the Sox, but it did advertise that the Yankees and Jeter had talked again! Oh, and the 2022 World Cup will be in Qatar. Imagine if the Red Sox or Yankees had signed Dunn? They'd have cancelled all other programming. Lol, that's very true. I wonder if it will get a segment on 1st Take, ATH, or PTI.

This would give the Blue Jays Pierzynski, Molina, and Arrencibia. Would be nice if Kenny could take Arrencibia off AA's hands.

White Sox Sign Dunn
I would think one of Buehrle/Peavy/Rios/Jackson HAVE to be traded if the Sox truly intend of bringing Konerko back. Also, interesting that Dunn's starting point was 4yr/$60, and he took $56. Wonder if he agreed to it so long as they throw that $4M to Paulie.
