  1. Jenks + Viciedo + D2 + Poreda/Richard + DCarter + Hudson = Haren??? We'd have to offer something totally crazy. Just look at what the DBacks gave up to get him.
  2. Mark is incredible. I tried to express my thoughts in a new thread but it was deleted I love you Mark. You are f***ing AWESOME!!!
  3. Chad Tracy is not very good. Scherzer doesn't make sense for them to move, and Qualls is probably too expensive. Upton = no way. I doubt they were there to scout Torres. Getz maybe? It wouldn't surprise me to see him being shopped.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 12:17 AM) Bobby’s pitched erratically this entire month, he blew a game that we should have won yesterday, boos are absolutely understandable. Agree, but I still wouldn't do it.
  5. LOL I hope they deal him to the DBacks for Qualls.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 10:50 PM) http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...06&zoneid=2 Meltzer saying $500k to the guy who replaces Barnett For Fedor's opponent, that should work out to an average salary of about $30M/hr. Nice wage...
  7. Any guesses (other than untouchables like Chipper, Shafer, Heyward, Hanson, Jurrjens)? I would have said a Wise replacement, but if Braves people have been here for the whole TB series so far, it must be something pretty big.
  8. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) I'd trade Alexei in a heartbeat for Halladay and it's very tempting for a potential ace or no. 2 in Buchholz. I think Alexei's value is the highest it'll ever be, and while he is a very solid player, he's prone to a lot of mistakes (both offensively and defensively), and I find it tough to pass up on the chance of getting a stud pitcher. I'd think very hard about dealing Alexei for Clay, but no way on Halladay because of short contract length and amount of money owed. I have no idea why you're always so down on Alexei either. Are there players who hit like he does and do not make mistakes in the field? Are there even players at all who don't make mistakes in the field? Let the kid continue to learn. I'd be much happier with Alexei-Beckham up the middle over Beckham-Getz. Personally I love Alexei.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) Buchholz has fantastic stuff, and he's got pitbull attitude on the mound from what I've heard/read. His problems have been control and consistency at the MLB level though, and his frame leaves question marks about him being able to hold up over a long season. He'd be a top prospect anywhere, but since he is with Boston, he's the second coming of Nolan Ryan or some hyped up crap like that. I'm still not buying the overhyped stuff. There is always tons of hype over prospects like him. The hype awards IMO go to Michael Bowden, Justin Masterson, and the lesser Chris Carter. Bowden especially for constantly being mentioned in the same sentence as the other guy who I will not put in this sentence.
  10. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) Some guy in Jim Callis' chat said the Sox and Boston discussed a Beckham for Buchholz trade, but didn't have a source and I can't find it anywhere so take it for what it's worth. I wouldn't trade Beckham for Buchholz, but I would certainly be willing to trade Ramirez for him if Boston was interested. I'd love to have Buccholz here but that's too steep. From a value standpoint it might not be all that crazy, but considering Beckham is already here and producing it would be too huge a risk for the Sox to take.
  11. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) I'm suppose to be house sitting for a friend for 10 days starting tomorrow. I was all excited to order this event, have some people come over and what not. Now who knows if its even worth the hassle. You know you'll be ordering it just to see Scott Farell (sp?). That guy is the only reason Affliction got the buys they did last time.
  12. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) I think Barnett is more of a threat than any of those guys. He is a big guy who if he got Fedor down he could avoid getting submitted. Vitor would probably be giving 15-20 pounds to Fedor. Vitor has never won a big fight. Not counting the fluke cut vs Couture. Lashley would get the take down but would be submitted within minutes. Rogers has some steam right now but I dont see him as a threat to Fedor. He has only beaten 1 fight worth noting and Fedor could end the fight in 2 minutes if he decided to go to the ground. Sucks that Overeem is healing his injury. Shoot, I think I'd be pretty excited for a Fedor/Roger Gracie fight if he wasnt dealing with the health problem of his kid. Only fight that really makes any sense is Vitor or me. I'd be willing to take a 30 second beating for 30k. That's basically why I'm not at all excited about Barnett. To beat Fedor, I think you have to finish him, and you have to do it very early, unless you're Anderson or Lyoto and are capable of playing his game on the feet. Even if Barnett can get Fedor down and defend subs for a little while, I still don't think that's enough. He won't be able to do that the whole fight and it's just a matter of time before Barnett has to stand which means he's getting KTFO. And even in Barnett's last fight against Yvel he didn't show anything much. I mean, if you can't finish off Yvel from mount then I don't know what you've got for Fedor. Agree Lashley would be in major danger of getting subbed, but I guess there's the hope that if he could get him down then maybe he could land a power shot or two. Wouldn't bet on it by any means, but at least there's a scant possibility. Of course, Fedor's taken some major damage from Randleman and Fujita and it didn't exactly matter. Rogers would be a "lucky punch" type for me. Again highly unlikely, but at least if he connects with a good shot he's got enough power to take down anyone. Belfort would probably be AA all over again, where Fedor just kind of backs off, avoids practically all damage, and then picks a spot to land the KO counter. But at least there's a chance again. Roger Gracie would be interesting too if there was any way for him to get that fight to the ground, but Fedor is deceptively quick and I think you have to be a pretty sickly athletic wrestler to be able to get him down and keep him there at least long enough to try to take advantage. I'd rather see Overeem though for the reasons listed above. Werdum would be my last choice, especially since Werdum thinks he's some great striker now. That fight might be over faster than the Sylvia one.
  13. I hope it's: 1. Belfort 2. Lashley 3. Rogers 4. anyone else If it's any of the first three then I am immediately much more excited about the fight than I'd be if it were Barnett as scheduled. At least Belfort has big speed and power, Lashley has very strong wrestling, and Rogers has sick power. Barnett has nothing that can even come close to challenging Fedor anywhere IMO, he's just well-rounded. Would still take Fedor via KO over all of them, but I think those guys are more dangerous for him, especially on short notice.
  14. JPN should have a blog where he can randomly discuss all things Barons, anything from scouting reports to odd happenings throughout the games, etc. Then he can give his overall opinions and so forth too, and actually pretty much discuss anything. I'd read it fo sho. Or even better yet he can do a video blog every now and then and get some footage of the players. Basically, JPN can be a Barons slave for all of our benefit.
  15. This forum shall stay open until August 31st because the Sox almost HAVE to make a move then. We should either be definitely in it or definitely out of it. If we're out, Count could go, but if we're in there will be lots of pieces available for us.
  16. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 12:39 AM) It's hard to tell, I think he throws a slider or a change up. I'd definitely be happy to blog on Future Sox, that of course is up to the webmasters...hint hint TTT for JPN's Future FutureSox blog!!!
  17. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) Clevelan is effectively wild, his fastball is live, but he doesn't always know where it's going. What's his secondary stuff been looking like this year? And BTW you need a blog or something at FutureSox.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) He should have been available in the 9th inning tonight. I hope everything with the baby goes well. Nice DJ quote in the sig. Did you hear his brief rant about how ice golf would be a good sport? DJ is f***ing nuts.
  19. The first couple hitters last night his stuff looked sick. Then he lost everything. I have no idea what is wrong with him but it almost has to be mental because he's gone out there and gotten the job done against equally tough teams with less stuff than he had last night. BTW I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like every time he gets burned at least one of the hits is a liner somewhere from a contact guy off a fastball about thigh-high on the outer portion of the plate. That, and just in general he doesn't seem to be throwing that fastball inside enough.
  20. The Hendo-Franklin rematch should be fun if nothing else. I think the fight is going to go pretty much the same way, but this time I think Franklin gets the decision. None of this should have any bearing on the title picture anyway since Franklin is a 205'er now and Hendo losing to a tough 205'er shouldn't really hurt his standing. The best matchup in the UFC for Anderson at 185 has to be Maia because he at least can beat Silva in one aspect of the game, but I think the UFC would be very hesitant to do that after the Leites affair, which really sucks BTW. But, if Maia can find a way to pull guard on Marquardt and submit him there's no possible way you can deny the guy. If Maia loses though, or if Maia wins and the UFC doesn't want to do Spider-Maia, then Hendo is probably the best style matchup. Too bad Anderson and Lyoto are training partners and friends because IMO that would be the best and most interesting fight that could be put on in all of MMA right now.
  21. Shirek: 7IP, 6H, 1ER, 2BB, 3K, ERA at 2.18 No walks for Santeliz today. 2IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 3K, ERA at 0.94, BAA .201 but still way too many BB on the season. One positive about him is that the splits say he's best with men on base and RISP. So he must at least have confidence. Get those walks down and then get to Chicago.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) He was doing well because he was used in non pressure situations with match ups that were very favorable towards him. Ozzie handled him with kid gloves. I rip Ozzie as much as anyone, but he used Poreda correctly. He is not ready to get major league hitters out when they need to be out. Maybe in time he will be, but he's going to have to get the gas back and/or improve the secondary pitches and get some command. You don't think Poreda could have been a second lefty option in the pen? Or at least a lefty specialist? I do. I think Ozzie had gotten to the point where he could have ramped up his usage of Poreda, but instead he threw him into a tough situation after having not pitched in a while. Usually Ozzie lets his guys fail a ton before demoting them, but Poreda is a different case (see Boone Logan). Also, when Thornton got here he was used in a similar way and like Poreda, he basically only used his fastball. I hope Ozzie is sending Poreda down simply because of a numbers game and the uncertainty at the back of the rotation. There are now 3 guys (Richard, Colon, Torres) in the picture, with Harrell also in Charlotte, Garcia on a rehab assignment, and both Whisler and Egbert having gotten a cup of coffee. So really that's 7 options right there, and I'd actually be surprised if Poreda is down for any other reason.
  23. Fields was supposedly the centerpiece, or one of the centerpieces, in the Miguel Cabrera trade. IIRC Gio, Danks, and Sweeney were also involved. In hindsight, the Marlins would have been better off taking the Sox package because Johnny Danks alone is a lot better than anything they got. Glad the Sox didn't offer to take on DTrain though.
