Series DVD Looks like it will be out in March.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) You know, someone should have put odds on this: if the Sox win the World Series in 2005, what are the odds a thread will be made in the offseason ( in earnest) calling him Evil? I would have put it at about 1/500. I should have made that bet. Seriously though, this thread helped me waste an hour of work today. Thanks guys. With some of the people on this board, I would have put that bet at even money. We can win the next ten WS and people will still find something to they don't like about the team.

Mem’ries, Like the corners of my mind Misty water-colored memories Of the way we were Scattered pictures, Of the smiles we left behind Smiles we gave to one another For the way we were Can it be that it was all so simple then? Or has time re-written every line? If we had the chance to do it all again Tell me, would we? could we? Mem’ries, may be beautiful and yet What’s too painful to remember We simply choose to forget So it’s the laughter We will remember Whenever we remember... The way we were... The way we were...

QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Except Garcia is much better. Garcia had a better year last year. I'll give you that.

If we trade Garland I hope we can aquire the pieces to land Crawford.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) You cannot compare Mackowiak to Blum. You just can't. Blum played 2B and 3B. And even some 1B if you need him to. Mackowiak plays ALL positions except SS and C. Blum is a utility guy. Mackowiak is a SUPER-utility guy. He provides backup for six positions. marte was good and may be good again. But Mackowiak is EXACTLY the kind of player Ozzie loves to use...the more positions, the better. Plus, personally, and I'm assuming KW, would trust Mackowiak to play 3B for a long stretch of time over Blum if Crede's hurt. Not to mention he's from Oak Lawn!!! Plus, if Viz can return to form, he will be knockin' lefties out at a much higher clip like he did in 2004...that is one reason the Sox picked him up. I beleive Mackowiak can catch in an emergency, at least I thoght I heard that somewhere.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) UH OH! Well, Williams has disappointed me. Marte's trade was not as carefully planned as I envisioned. I thought there would be NO way he'd initiate a trade for Marte unless a replacement were ready underneath. It's not too much to expect this, right? I expect the scouting dept. will find us a young lefty arm from somewhere. If we carry 12 pitchers we can afford to go with a young guy with some untapped potential.
-
Since we will likely be carrying 12 pitchers I think we will probably make a minor trade for a young lefty with untapped potential to replace Marte. Kinda the same way we brought in Marte. We have to have faith in the scouting dept. now.

It's to bad things wouldn't work with Lofton. I think he would be a good replacement for Timo as a fourth outfielder and insurance in case the rookies fall flat. Bernie Williams would be another option but I can't see that happening. If we are going with Anderson in CF I really beleive that we need someone to replace Timo as the back up.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) It would be the other way around. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) ^^^ Yeah, what they said. -
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Isn't it a wild coincidence that he had Tommy John surgery ? You would think he would have seen it coming.

Who buys the balls? Shouldn't that be who has ownership rights to it?

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) Well you are paying for water with bud.. so it makes sense. Silly Americans all your beer tastes like water.

I really hope that Durazo would only be considered as a last resort. I think we should be looking at someone more versitile rather than a DH only player. If we are going for a DH only I would rather have Frank back.

Does the Trib book come in a hardcover? I checked on Amazon and they only show a paperback version.

US Senate Resolution to honor Shoeless Joe Jackson
supernuke replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(TLAK @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) From Joe Jackson's signed and sworn Grand Jury testimony on September 28, 1920: The original document is available at http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/f...shoelessjoe.pdf I don't want to rehash the whole black sox scandel, but my opinion is the 8 men were certainly on the take, got off in court only because throwing a baseball game was not a crime and got their justice in the life time bans. Movies and myths are quite entertaining but the first source documents are not refutable. He was coached to say these things by Comiskey's lawyer who was looking to protect Comiskey not Joe. Comiskey knew about everything during the series and did nothing to stop it and when the scandel broke he and his lawyers acted to protect him. They told Joe what to say in his testimony and told him that going along with them was the only way he would be able to keep playing. Also to those who say he only hit when it didn't matter, if that is so then he should be recognized as the greatest hitter this game has ever seen. I find it hard to beleive that someone could hit that well in a series when they are only trying part of the time. Read Say it ain't so, Joe! The true story of Shoeless Joe Jackson. The grand jury testimony is only a small part of everything that went on. -

Interesting names that have cleared waivers..

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) Majority means 50% plus 1. Most can mean majority but it's more often associated with nearly all. Consider an example: You have 10 petri dishes. If 6 out of the 10 cultures were good. You would say the majority of cultures were good. If 9 out of 10 were good you would say most of the cultures were good. Without question, yes. You can even assume that there are more requests for ML waivers than any other type. Main Entry: 1most Pronunciation: 'mOst Function: adjective Etymology: Middle English, from Old English m[AE]st; akin to Old High German meist most, Old English mAra more -- more at MORE 1 : greatest in quantity, extent, or degree 2 : the majority of I'll stick with what the word means not what some people think it means. -

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) What exactly is there left to debate? That "most" means better than 90%? That there are close to 1200 players on ML rosters? That 90% of that is 1080? Even if you assume that most teams are 1-2 players shy of the 40 man it's still over 1000 players. That on average there are less than 250 OR & UR waivers per year? So what does that leave? ML & SPL waivers. ML can be withdrawn & SPL can't . If a team claims a player off SPL waivers they just have to pick up the contract. No cost in talent other than the impact the new player has on your budget & your roster. So what's reasonable for a SPL waiver count? 60? Add it all up & you're still looking at 700 shy of what is needed to say "most" players. Taking the Newsday article into consideration you're still 350 players shy. It's reasonable to say "LOTS" or even the "MAJORITY" but not most. Hawk's term as GM proved he didn't know how to do basic math very well :rolly According to Webster's, most only means the majority not at least 90%. -
*Official* Eric Chavez Speculation/Dream Thread

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) Maybe because the chances are he will be better than he was in May. If after a bad slump, his #s are so much better than Chavez and Cruddy, that just proves my point. He is worth looking into at the deadline for a stop gap solution. How do you know that May is a slump. Maybe he was playing over his head in April and the May numbers are the real Vinny Castila at 37. -

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) You must be kidding nitetrain. If Castilla is as bad as some people here believe, how can he be their franchise player? And even if he is the face of the team, it means squat. This is a business. Come trade deadline, when the Nats realize they have no shot at beating the Braves or Marlins, they will be selling. They can't sell to much. They need to keep some name players around to interest prospective new owners. -
If an owner says they accidentally accepeted a trade and asks the other owners in the league to veto it, should it be vetoed or should they have to live with their mistake. I'm not sure if I should veto, so I would like to get some opinions.
