Thome+Konerko=World Series
QUOTE(MarkBuehrle_TheAce @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Ok im new at all this so if ne one wants to give me some suggestions on ne thing, feel free to tell me. on to the 'sox talk', Paulie and Thome are gonna b monsters this season, IF Thome stays healthy, which i think he will. With Thome protecting Konerko, it forces them to pitch to AT LEAST one of them, therefore im busy penciling Paulie in at 40+ homers and Thome at 35+, what do you guys think?? P.S: The one on the Right is Minnesota My suggestion would be to type the word any instead of ne, it's only one more letter and much easier to read.

Canadian Election Thread
I have no idea what to do about this election. It's time for the Liberals to go but I don't think I can bring myself to vote for a any party that would have Harper as their leader and the NDP is just a non factor.

White Sox 2005 WS Box Set!!!
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) It is listed here without a description: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CRR392/ and here it says 7 Discs: http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000CRR392/ The original link is the US Amazon which has it for $62.99 available March 28th. The Red Sox had 12 Discs (11 games+other stuff) for $103.99. So based off the price reduction of $41, it would seem that the set will include only 7 discs. I just don't see why they are not including the other 6 games. There were so many classic games that will not be on there, which is BS IMO. I'm guessing that we don't get the full ALCS in this set because our ALCS victory was not a dramatic come back from being down 3-0 against the Great Yankees.

The Count possibly to the Astros?
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) I'm sick of a bunch of people throwing out a few stats to make there case. I got news for people, you can throw stats out for whatever the f*** case you want. There is no definitive stats unless your talking about a superstar. Thank you. It really annoys me when people spout off some stats as gospel. While stats can be a useful tool, when it comes to baseball they will never show the whole picture. Stats are numbers and with proper manipulation you can make them say just about anything you want. Like Yogi once said 90% of baseball is half mental. This mental aspect can not be mesured. it's easy to say that team A will score 1.274365457549 runs with a man on first and no outs but the same team will only score 0.423151272338494 runs with no one on and one out, and there for a caught stealing is crippling to a team. They can't however mesure what having that guy with the 70% success rate( which according to the stats guys is quite bad) who steals 50 bases a year on first does to the opposing players mentally. Stats can not mesure the mental asspects of the game or the many intangibles that are part of the game. Until they can they will always be flawed. As I said earlier they can still be a very useful tool if they are combined with a keen observation of the game and players themselves. Maybe all the teams should go out and hire some people to go and watch other teams players and games and the minors players and games and provide some insight that could be used along with all these stats to make all these decisions.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) I can't find anything that says 7 disc set. At least so far. The IMDb I can't get in... grrr. Sorry, I just realized on Amazon.com it doesn't say 7 discs but amazon.ca has it listed as a 7 disc set.

The Evil Kenny Williams
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) You know, someone should have put odds on this: if the Sox win the World Series in 2005, what are the odds a thread will be made in the offseason ( in earnest) calling him Evil? I would have put it at about 1/500. I should have made that bet. Seriously though, this thread helped me waste an hour of work today. Thanks guys. With some of the people on this board, I would have put that bet at even money. We can win the next ten WS and people will still find something to they don't like about the team.

The Evil Kenny Williams
Mem’ries, Like the corners of my mind Misty water-colored memories Of the way we were Scattered pictures, Of the smiles we left behind Smiles we gave to one another For the way we were Can it be that it was all so simple then? Or has time re-written every line? If we had the chance to do it all again Tell me, would we? could we? Mem’ries, may be beautiful and yet What’s too painful to remember We simply choose to forget So it’s the laughter We will remember Whenever we remember... The way we were... The way we were...

Do you like the Marte trade?
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) You cannot compare Mackowiak to Blum. You just can't. Blum played 2B and 3B. And even some 1B if you need him to. Mackowiak plays ALL positions except SS and C. Blum is a utility guy. Mackowiak is a SUPER-utility guy. He provides backup for six positions. marte was good and may be good again. But Mackowiak is EXACTLY the kind of player Ozzie loves to use...the more positions, the better. Plus, personally, and I'm assuming KW, would trust Mackowiak to play 3B for a long stretch of time over Blum if Crede's hurt. Not to mention he's from Oak Lawn!!! Plus, if Viz can return to form, he will be knockin' lefties out at a much higher clip like he did in 2004...that is one reason the Sox picked him up. I beleive Mackowiak can catch in an emergency, at least I thoght I heard that somewhere.

Myers to the Yankees!
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) UH OH! Well, Williams has disappointed me. Marte's trade was not as carefully planned as I envisioned. I thought there would be NO way he'd initiate a trade for Marte unless a replacement were ready underneath. It's not too much to expect this, right? I expect the scouting dept. will find us a young lefty arm from somewhere. If we carry 12 pitchers we can afford to go with a young guy with some untapped potential.
-
Free Agent Lefties
Since we will likely be carrying 12 pitchers I think we will probably make a minor trade for a young lefty with untapped potential to replace Marte. Kinda the same way we brought in Marte. We have to have faith in the scouting dept. now.

Perfect Fit?
It's to bad things wouldn't work with Lofton. I think he would be a good replacement for Timo as a fourth outfielder and insurance in case the rookies fall flat. Bernie Williams would be another option but I can't see that happening. If we are going with Anderson in CF I really beleive that we need someone to replace Timo as the back up.
